Amazon Kindle Fire pre-sales continue to explode

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 12 Nov 2011 10:26 User comments (8)

Amazon Kindle Fire pre-sales continue to explode According to research firm eDataSource, Amazon took 500,000 pre-orders for the Kindle Fire tablet before October 28th, and sold over 1 million to retail partners during the same time frame.
Additionally, the firm says some people are actually buying multiple devices, which is almost unheard of for tablets.

Says Carter Nicholas of eDS:

I think it resets the bar. In our data, we're seeing people ordering two and three of them. That's not the majority of people, but it is showing up.

The Kindle Fire goes on sale on the 15th at Amazon.com and 16,000 retail locations.

Guess the price is the real selling point of the device. Combined with the specs its a very good buy.

If it can be rooted, I'll get one.

The specs totally blow. 8gb internal memory and no SD card slot???? this thing is garbage. I was going to buy one but the size of some of these apps will blow this things SSD up in minutes.

Bad, bad idea to not include at the very least an SD expansion slot. Be ready for all the complaints and bitching after the holidays from all these people that bought it and fill the memory up in minutes with no room left for books. And THEN they realize they didn't read up on it first before buying and find out it has no SD slot. It's going to get ugly.

I suspect the reason for no SD slot is because of the cards you can get for rooting the Nook Color. No SD slot means you have to actually learn how to root it yourself, which means the average person won't do it.

I happen to agree with you that it's a deal breaker. If you have another $50 bucks to spend you can get practically the same tablet, except with twice the RAM, twice the internel storage, and an SD slot. That would be the new Nook Tablet.

Yeah the lack of an SD slot is a big drawback. I do however think this is going to do an awful lot for the money right out of the box. I am still glad I preordered and am looking forward to laying hands on the thing!

Cmon guys, you know it's almost literally impossible to fill up 8GB with just apps right? Go and download all 250,000 apps (not the games) in the Android Market, guarantee you still have some of that 8GB left :)

The point of the Kindle Fire is to use Cloud Storage for your Kindle books and music and to stream the movies. The 8GB is more than enough.

If you are not using the Kindle Fire as a cloud device, than you are looking into purchasing the wrong tablet. As Vurbal says, check the the new Nook Tablet. The original one took about 20 seconds to root, can't imagine the second one will be too different.

I wonder why I haven't seen anyone mention the full 8000+ kindle book lending library has been downloaded and put out there already? If I remember right it was 10GB'ish...lol

This tablet is designed as a profitable tablet they want you to buy their products and they're betting heavy that you will. Apple is exactly doing this, and it has gone extremely well for them. Can't argue with that strategy.
