Playstation Portable will support MP3

Playstation Portable will support MP3 It has been revealed that Sony's upcoming Playstation Portable (PSP) will support the MP3 format in its audio player. It will also support ATRAC3, which is Sony's proprietary music format and is used in the Sony Connect music store, minidisks and Sony hard-drive music players. Sony revealed last week that it was reconsidering supporting the MP3 format in its music playback devices, a move that has come with much criticism, since competing devices such as Apple's iPod support the more popular MP3 format.
The PSP will support video playback of the H.264/AVC format which is an advanced video codec with a wide range of settings and is set to be used in the next generation of DVD systems. It's not clear, however, whether this indicates that the system will be able to play H.264 video off Memory Stick storage devices, or if it just means that Sony has chosen the standard as the compression format for movies on its UMD discs.

So now, it means that the PSP could have the potential to be one VERY cool-looking, sleek-feeling, amazing-gaming, MP3 Player! If they add online capabilities, and make the product less than $250, I might actually buy it.

When will they come out with recordable UMD discs?

MP3, video, internet browser and games console in one!! i hope it is under $250! sweet!

it sure does have a handful of different buttons hmm? is that a firewire port?

Damnit, I was hoping for a "joystick" type directional pad instead of a 4 way pad. Afterall, if it's going to browse the web, a joystick type pad would make browsing much easier, and also play 3D games with ease

Im sure sony will improvise, you know... usb attachments to make things easier.

A USB joystick type controller? That wouldn't work unless it fitted perfectly in the place of the Dpad.

I was refering to browsing... a mini usb keyboard and touch pad would make things easier. Im sure most games will work great with the d-pad, having an analouge stick would be a bit weird.

Ever played First Person Shooters with a Dpad? It's like trying to get headshots in CS with just your arrow keys... And from the game lineup and game trailers, PSP has a LOT of high potential First Person Shooters. =(
