HP to stop reselling iPods

Written by James Delahunty @ 31 Jul 2005 8:46 User comments (7)

HP to stop reselling iPods Earlier this week, US computer firm Hewlett-Packard ended a deal with Apple that was in place since early 2004 to resell Apple's iPod device. The deal to sell the devices had been secured by the former HP chief executive, Carly Fiorina, but she resigned earlier this year. Now HP is reshaping its plans for the company under new chief Mark Hurd. iPods sold by HP accounted for about 5% of all iPod sales. The growing popularity of the device has lead to massive profits for Apple.
As well as dropping the iPod, HP will also cut about 14,500 jobs, about 1 in ten of it's entire workforce worldwide. "HP has decided that reselling iPods does not fit within the company's current digital entertainment strategy," said an Apple spokeswoman. However, HP announced last year that it would pack iTunes with it's PC's and has vowed to continue adding the software.

As much as I hate to say it, this wasn't a smart business move for HP. Soo many people buy iPods now. Also, the name Carly Fiorina sounds dangerously similar to TigerDirect's president, Carl Fiorentino.

true. but i have a creative zen touch 40gb, and although they aint as 'pretty' as ipods, mine dows the job and have no complaints

Same here. I can't understand the logic behind paying £180 (At the time) for an mp3 player which holds a storage capacity of 4gb.. that's less than a 15p blank DVD.. -Mike

yeah the creative zen touch is way better that the ipod (hoping 2 get 1 in 7 days [my b-day]) battery is better storage is better value is better i think looks are better when it crashes it does not lose its memory like the ipod 1 question about it, do you need to keep all the music saved in the PC aswell (just like the ipod) !!thecraigc!!
