Porn company backs Blu-ray

Porn company backs Blu-ray

Digital Playground, a US adult film maker known as an innovator in bringing porn to personal computers, has thrown its support behind the Sony-developed Blu-ray Disc format. "We feel that of the two formats, it's the one that's more future-proofed," Digital Playground's president and founder, who identifies himself as Joone, said. Blu-Ray is competing with Toshiba's HD DVD format, and so far seems to be gathering the majority of support, particularly from Hollywood studios.
Even though Digital Playground has picked a next generation format to run with, it has not yet managed to find a company willing to mass produce its content in the new format. Joone says this is because companies that replicated DVDs are hesitant to embrace the porn industry and are committed in putting mainstream Hollywood's movies onto the new discs. However, the Blu-ray group is happy for the new endorsement as it shows the format's wide appeal.

"It shows that Blu-ray is appealing to film genres of many types," said Andy Parsons, a spokesman for Blu-ray and a senior vice president at Pioneer Electronics. The format war will kick off properly this year with the launch of both formats and new players within the next few months. Both sides also have a planned offering of high definition movies for 2006.

I have a bad feeling about this now, I really wanted hd dvd to win, for as backward's compatibility, managed copy, and I am concerned I will ride it down till it is no more. long live freedom!! and long live hd dvd!!!!!!!!

This doesn't look good for HD-DVD. I read a post by someone on this site saying that the porn industry chose to go with VHS instead of Betamax and that was one of the reasons why betamax died out in the end. Sony seems to be doing things right.

Wait 'til they and the consumer sees what it costs. "it has not yet managed to find a company will to mass produce its content in the new format." I'm sure the average frat boy is not going want to spend a quarter of his paycheck on high definition poon.

423.1.2006 13:15

Even the ones I have on dvd look like they were shot on a fisher-price camera so are Blu-ray discs going to sharpen the grainy aspects so that I can identify exactly what that line traveling across my screen is. You gotta be some porn aficianado to drop cash on a player and some movies. I would rather spend the money on some quality lube.

523.1.2006 14:06

Porn sells good so Blu-ray will probably win the next generation format. I won't migrate to Blu-ray because I don't have a HDTV. Maybe one day I will migrate to blu ray.

Who cares if digital playground chooses the blu ray, they are not the only porn company you know?

blu-ray is going to win cuz of the ps3 is going to sell like hot cakes.besides Blu-ray u can store almost twice the data on a Blu-ray disc than HD-DVD, viva la porn and Blu-ray and ps3 the best.

823.1.2006 22:41

wow hi-def porn i can see parts of the p***y i didn't know where there, thanks sony and blu-ray

923.1.2006 22:55

I so wanted HD-DVD to win also, forget sony and their tricky little schemes, i hope toshiba pulls thru.

Look, poonany is obviously one of the most detrimental aspects to human existance (why do you think the Internet is so popular?), so no wonder what it does, people follow. To put it simply, who would in there right mind buy something so "riskay" as buying something like this? Rich, horny guys (and some women too), that's who!

I think HD DVD will come out on top for the simple fact that Sony is too caught up in its outlandish copy protection schemes and its inflexibility with licensing its formats. Does anyone remember Betamax, or minidisc? They come up with good formats, then cut their own throats because of thier greed.

1226.1.2006 00:33

Well, maybe Blu-ray discs will be a little different. Beta-max and MD's didn't have the backing to become a full-fledged product, but are 2 very high-quality devices if you've seen them. Blu-ray may very well have that extra push that those other media formats didn't have; a really huge support for them. If this isn't going to beat out HD-DVD, it's definitely going to be side-by-side with it. I've also noticed something strange. It seems that a lot of the type of people who worked at Sony are now working at Microsoft, and vice-versa where people who worked at Microsoft went to Sony. Don't take that personally; I'm not anybody actually did, but some people who used to work with Sony have now moved over the Microsoft, like Hironobu Sakaguchi who used to work with Square Enix that was very close to Sony's systems is now working on his own titles on the 360.

Since neither formats are even on the market no-one can say who will win tho most of the forums i visit eveyone seems to be picking blue ,personally i can't at this moment see how since the only real advantage of blu is storage and a fat lot of good size will do if a movie etc can't fill all of the disc ,so why pay for space that won't get used, blu is also not backwards friendly, so for comps most still use cd-roms and blu will not read or write them period, where hd will unless i read it wrong somwhere,to me i see blu being strong in the corporate and IT industry, as backups would be best on blu coz of stroage size, where as for general "Joe user" (< disclaimer: any resemblance to person alive or dead is purley accidental :p ) cont.... hddvd would be the go coz of cheapness and familiarity, well that's my five cents, i'll let you fanboys do the rest :p PS: the link if it works is a comparison of blu and hddvd and just gives the in's and out's of both,if the link is broken just head over to techspot's home page it'll be there somewhere if you'd like to get the lowdown on either format http://www.techspot.com/articles/blue-ray_vs_hddvd/

lol@llongtheD...actually i would prefer some vasoline!

If you've actually viewed how the porn industry shoots their movies, you wouldn't be impressed in the least whether its a dvd, or a Blu-ray disc. If the quality of the image flops on one, what guarantees it won't flop on the second?

Porn has never been that good of quality. I dont see the big deal.

199.6.2006 13:24

This is sick...I believe there's a place for all kinds of cinema in the world, porn included. But just because Larry Flynt or Hugh Hefner supports a format doesn't mean the other one shouldn't be given a chance. But, BR looks promising. However, I don't think it would make a difference to those who don't have large TVs. The only difference is the pornos are going to get longer (BR has more storage than HD, apparently) and you're going to see more pubes (Better quality) Source: www.blu-raydisc.com (Bias of course). They aren't all worn out, just think of all the "new models" that come along. ;)

Now throw some early 90's porn star in the mix and we got a problem.
