Demonoid returns but forced to block Canadian traffic to site

30 September 2007 19:28 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 89 comments

Demonoid returns but forced to block Canadian traffic to site Demonoid is finally back online after a week of downtime in which rumors swirled that the tracker was taken down by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Although the rumors proved to be somewhat true, the tracker and website are still being hosted on a Canadian ISP but now must block all Canadian traffic.

A note on the Demonoid homepage had this to say, "We received a letter from a lawyer representing the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and we need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience."

This latest decision mirrors the recent situations with other public trackers Isohunt and TorrentSpy which were forced to block access to US users.

Although the forums and the site in general still seem to be in somewhat of disarray, the admins promise to have it up and running at full pace in a few days.

    No need for the invite.

They have one good policy. Every month they open up the registration for may be 2-3 days. Keep trying & you WILL get lucky.

    That is how I registered.

Step 1. go to proxy.org and pick a proxy site (look for 4proxy.com - I am currently using this one with no problem). now after it takes you to it's site type in www.demonoid.com in the blank space where it asks for your URL. This should take you to demonoid home page, from there type in your username and acces code ( dont be afraid if it says that there is an error) if an error has occured there will be a small screen asking you to type in you username and password once again... do this and enter the number at the bottom. This should bring you back to full status, I would suggest changing you country of origin (better to be safe than sorry). Oh and if you have the option to add favorites to your keyboard, use the URL from above so that next time your only one push of a button to the greatest website for file-sharing. If this dos'nt work for ya go to ... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/566087
there is a little more info there that might get ya going again.

Yeah, but if you have a invite code, you don't have to wait for those 2-3 days.

let's see - Invites to private sites

Requesting for or offering invites to private sites (such as private torrent trackers or similar private P2P sites) is not allowed. This rule has been requested by several private site administrators, and we honor their request. (Penalty: 2 day ban)

There is another - unrelated - "by invitation only" thing that made sense & made google so popular.

Up until recently google mail was by invitation only. Initially they sent out invites to their own known circles each of who had 100 invites available to them. The pyramid scheme continued but theoretically they could trace each and every account holder. You could practically be sure that no mail from any google account was spam or virus ridden. 2 major shortcomings of then popular free mail providers - Yahoo & Hotmail.

    You can see the results.

In addition to the great proxy info from LILBUCK

    NEW PROXY UPDATE EVERYDAY

    http://www.boy.us.com/proxylist.php.

    Fake IP Address

When you connect to a web site, it can see your IP address as the "Remote IP" or "Remote Address". When you surf through a proxy server, these fields contain the IP address of the proxy server instead of your own IP address. So the web site will see the address of the proxy instead of your actual address. But all non-anonymous proxies usually put the IP addresses of their clients (i.e. of the computers using those proxies) in either of the two following request headers (variables): "HTTP_CLIENT_IP" or "HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR_IP" There are no strict standards, so one proxy may be sending the IP with "Client_IP" variable and another with "X_Forwarded_For_IP".

There is not much difference between them but they are never used together - either one or the other. So, if the proxy you are using is not anonymous, the web site will be able to see you true IP address in one of these fields.Requests that are generated by anonymous servers do not have these fields (that's what makes them anonymous). The thing is that you can set A4Proxy to create these fields, and put there "fake" IP addresses (they are generated as random numbers, so they are different for each request).

As the result, the web site which you are visiting will "think" that you are visiting it through a non-anonymous proxy server (while in fact it is a truly anonymous server with an additional fake field generated by A4Proxy). Not all web sites will look for these fields (Client_IP or X_Forwarded_For_IP). However, those which do look for them will definitely be confused as the fake IP address will be different for each request. It may be a good idea to switch on one of these options (and it is not important which one). Finally, if you want a particular address to be sent to the web site in one of that field, you will need to create a modification for that field on the Browser Options tab, in addition to enabling the appropriate Simulate... option.

Because this application listing could be considered by some as spam I'm not linking to a download.. you need to google it..

Here is a listing for people worried that it may be malware http://www.auditmypc.com/process/a4proxy.asp

If you try it let us know how it goes.

Yup, the site indicates as of the last 48 hrs:

    Quote:
The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.
So that’s that, it will leave a huge hole in the amount of quality content floating around in torrent form (much of which we were responsible) unless those who originally uploaded the content attached more than one tracker to the content when it was uploaded (we did not).

Furthermore Deimos (the sites only actual administrator) has turned tail himself and abandoned the Canadian market weeks ago to feeble threats at best. Therefore I suspect that after already going through this once in the Netherlands and moving here to Canada (the best country on the planet) has set up a nice little life for himself in Canada and is not about to go to another country just to rent a server and provide a debatably illegitimate operation for us simple folks.

So long to Demonoid unless Deimos can find another ISP willing to stand up to some pathetic threats by the CRIA who (despite the name) does NOT represent Canadian artists and the Canadian music industry. It is a confirmed AMERICAN association based in Canada to represent the RIAA here.

    Hello!

I know that you cant' access demonoid nowadays.

Beacuse demonoid blocked some Countries, IPs and ISP to access their server.

They allowed only UK and US users to access their website. But you can still able to access it through proxies.

read this article and try that trick

does anyone know if demonoid is down as of today? I've been trying to enter their website since last week and it says that they are under maintenance and will resume immediately. But It's been a week already so I was wondering if anyone here gets the same message too. Or is it just me???

Heres an update for anyone lookin.
    http://torrentfreak.com/demonoid-bittorr...or-days-090901/

During the next few days, maybe hours, Demonoid may go down due to some serious-sounding technical issues. They have already caused some damage to the site so the operators want to limit further damage.

“We are experiencing power outages that have caused some ram and hard drive issues. We might have to shut down everything to fix and prevent further damage,” they say in a statement.

The downtime could be extended, “…days maybe, until we can change the power circuit,” they add.

Thanks creaky, I only checked the mini nova site once. I have not used that site in years. I was just curious to see what was up. I got nervous with mini, PB and Demon down I was beginning to wonder. Not that I actually have been doing anything in the last few months. The f@cking robot things have gotten on my nerves. They still hound me after months of inactivity. I may be quitting while I am ahead of the game.
