MGS 4 helps PS3 close gap on Wii in Japan

127 million people in Japan, in a place that is roughly 20,000 square miles smaller than California.

i respect the japanese for suporting their own products cut they are really missing out not treating the xbox as a real system. I own all 3 systems and find the xbox the most played of em all. I dont understand why their "pride" keeps them to the sony and wii only. My opinion the wii isnt the next gen, its just a gimmick thats pretty cheap with a few good games only. Hopefull wii 2 , nintendo will put a bit more cash into it and have a much stronger processor, even if it costs a little more.

Its not the japanese "pride" thats stopping them buying a 360, its because the asian market is very different to the west.

First and foremost the japanese respect and crave a quality product and arent going to be tempted by a console that has a failure rate of 30%.

Secondly not every japanese gamer likes FPS's and Action games and prefer RPG's and the like, the japanese love games like Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z etc. Microsoft hasnt done enough to entice japanese gamers into buying there console yet.

Yea seriously enough with this "japan and its pride" bull. they have as much pride as americans with their sports/FPS games/muscle cars etc. Japan enjoys american movies and music, heck even our artist goes to Japan to preform. You dont see a japanese music artist coming here and preform do you? nor we dont even really bring japanese movies here to movie theatres. Instead we remake them into a more americanize version thats like worst than the original. I know alot of people here that dont own or want to own an Xbox soley because of the variety of games MS offers. So please dont assume things like the sales of xbox isnt doing well because of Japan and its pride. We all have pride in somethings anyways so we'd be hypocritical to say that about them.

Its the games not the system...Microsoft games just don't interest them at all.If you make some games that's cater to them they will support it like any other country would it has nothing to do with them supporting there own.Its Microsoft fault they should have learned after XBOX what appeal to Japanese gamers but they ignored the region & now they paying for it all over again.Microsoft should stop trying to steal exclusive from Sony & work on there 1st Party studio & make stuff on there own but there thinking is they can buy whatever they want & that's not going to work.

well not having all these stupid rpg sprite games and super deformed anime games on the xbox is a good thing for us here. with a few exclusions like certain rpg's japanese games are just......weired

I dont think that MGS4 is the only reason that PS3 is going well,
most people i know, got bored wii or they already have a wii(without boring it) and they buy a PS3 cause wii lacks to a lot compared to PS3.

I have the privelede of owning Sony's PS3 & Microsoft's Xbox360 and I enjoy gaming. I play my 360 EVERY DAY and my PS3 about once a week. Although there are plenty of games out for the PS2, there aren't many out for the PS3. In situations where games are out for both consoles, I always enjoy playing the 360 version more. I'm still dissappointed in Sony's new machine. I really hope they come out with better games. MGS4 is really only 5 hours long if you cut through the movie scenes. That's ridiculous, especially after all the hype about blu-ray media having so much storage capacity for better looking, playing, and longer games. The Wii is fun and Nintendo is making huge $ and I'm happy for them but they don't attract the SERIOUS gamers. I enjoy my 360 but I hate FPS and it sucks that the 360 has so many of 'em. Those type of games, along with RTS games should stay on the PC. I wish someone would make a "Universal Console Machine" that plays everything like what they did with hybrid HD DVD & Blu-Ray players.

Thats totally not true you heard that from a guy who actually played the game first which took him 14hours the first time & he was trying to get the Bandanna if you can finish it under 5 hours.Who in there right mine play a game without watching CG that mean you didn't even know what the game was about.The game without CG is about 8hrs this was proved on Gamepro but was played on the easy level.To be honest you can't own a PS3 i very seriously doubt it.

That's bull, ive had my 360 since July of 2006, (when i got it for my b-day) and nothing has ever happened to it, no rrod no eject disc error, nothing. The Life cycle of the 360 has been perfect for me thankfully, and even if it got the rrod or something, I could just send it to Microsoft for repair for free, easy as that. and also the 360 has way more exclusives than that, UT is for the 360 too, Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Dead or Alive, Fable, Ninja Gaiden 2, Ridge Racer, Saints Row, Tenchu Z, Too Human, Dead Rising.. and more, those are the ones I think are cool. Not to mention future games, and sequels that will OWN, such as Gears of War 2.. I can't wait for this game to come out.

And let us not forget the Live Arcade, Street fighter 2, Sonic, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur, Doom, Geometry Wars, Pacman, and waaay more. The fact of the matter is, 360 owns the ps3. Sure, xbox live is 8 dollars a month, but totally worth it. And yes, multiplatform games help the 360 alot, like call of duty 4 and gta4, but those are must have games, everybody has those seeing they are amazingly awesome.

Well i think the asians dont support the xbox360 more b.c they just dont like the american products. They dont buy our cars either but i cant argue with that one b.c i dont either. Give me a toyota or honda anyday. I got burned too many time by GM in the last 12 years on low quality parts and manufacturing defects. The RROD issue is a complete embarrasement to Microsoft b/c there is no way it should have ever happened.

Not sure what was meant by this comment but for the record, if this was referring to battery life xbox360 has the best of all three next gen consoles. I have read three articles online and in video magazines on this. Oh and please lets not include HAZE in those great PS3 must play titles. Check the ratings and the gamers reviews. Most people really trash talked this game badly. It should not even be mentioned with great games like Uncharted and MGS4.

I dont think so. The PS3 version of GTA IV was the reason the game was put on hold so long. That had the get the PS3 version up to par with the xbox360 version. Not b.c the PS3 doesnot have the horsepower under the hood but because they are still learning to program for it. When a developer makes a game they are not holding back on graphics just so they can make the game on the 360. It takes longer to make the games for the PS3 b/c it hasnot been out as long and i have heard it isnot as user friendly. That is why the XXbox360 is able to push out basicly the same graphics as the PS3 right now with a V-8 compared to Sony's V-12.

wow, sdf_gr.. i can see ur a sony fanboy..bashing the 360 like that.. Well, I for one own all three next gen consoles and between the 360 and the ps3, i play my 360 more. Don't get me wrong, i love my ps3, I still haven't passed metal gear solid 4, (this game rocks). But I just play my 360 more seeing the majority of my friends have it. We play call of duty4 and halo 3 all the time.. never get bored of them. I just wish Live was free but hey, at least the service is awesome.. and I don't know about you but The arcade games that Unknown guy mentioned are really fun, I myself own Stf2, Mk3, and TMNT, theyre old games but fun, especially with them being playable online.

Gta4 was not a failure, that game is awesome! the graphics are cool, single player is long and amazing, and online is also fun. Not everybody has the same taste for games, but just check the stats.. it got a perfect 10 from the critics.. as well as call of duty and halo 3, they got 9.5 at ign.com and gamespot.com Not to mention CallofDuty being #1 in top xbox live games. Followed by #2 Halo3, and #3 GTA4.

I've also had my 360 for quite some time, and nothing has ever happend to it.. and 30% rate failure or not, Microsoft is trying their hardest to fix their stupid errors and are fixing the 360's for free.

I mainly use my ps3 for bluray movies and right now for metal gear solid 4..but if i want to play fun online videogames with friends, then my 360 wins.

But for them an MS Hardware issue is not a prob but a sony software issue for example is the end of the world, that is what bothers me, Blind at will and that is fanboyzm.

You are wrong, they do holding back graphics cause the 360 and a major reason is the 8,5gb DVD limitation.
it isnt enough to fit a 720 or 1080 gfx game with HiDef cut scenes and Dolby Digital or what ever sound that is.

I was in BestBuy the other day and saw the xbox is going on sale. Back in the day (2 yrs ago) I opted for a dual core PC instead for just a Ben Franklin more, and Ive never had any problems I couldn't fix myself. I cant imagine anyone wanting to shell out money for that turd of a motherboard that resides in the xbox. Honestly..wait for MICROSHIT to send me a box to return a defective unit in? Um..what? And I can't hook up a 1TB drive to it bc Gates says so? Am I missing something here? And then there was Microsoft banning xbox live accounts bc of modded systems..some of which weren't modded! LulZ!!
I cannot understand why anyone would want to shell out 500 bucks for a time bomb.

No thanks..I'll stick with my Core 2/Radeon 3850 setup which will eat Diablo III alive. :)

Well put.

However, I think someone referenced a list of PS3 exclusives and included Haze in there. It definately is not a great game. I however can say that based on playing it... as opposed to lxhotboy who is quoting what he read... way to emulate an opinion btw.

The 360 does have rechargeable batteries.. they DON'T come standard with the controler unless you buy the more expensive version. They DO recharge... but at an addition al price

The Dualshock 3 is estimated at 25hours as well. The difference is that its rechargeable battery is built in from purchase.

The 360 has been holding the abilities of the ps3 back on ALL multi-platform releases. Developers feel they need to make an "EQUAL" game on both systems. The problem is that the abilites of these systems are far from equal and as a result the PS3 owners are left with a game that meets the highest expectations of the less powerful system. GTA could have had TONS more built-in if it was developed exclusively for PS3.. it would have easily encompassed all the DLC that 360 owners won't see till 2009 on their proprietary HDD's.

amen to that! this is exactly my point.. to enjoy a videogame. People always bring up their "extremely powerful" computer that beats any videogame console.. well it might beat it in power, but never in enjoyment as varnull said.. nothing beats a 52" plasma, playing on Live with your friends is the best. But as long as you enjoy playing videogames on any machine is fine I guess. I just get tired when people show off their super computers in a videogame console discussion.

YES!!!! I like the way you put that.

Yeah.. because its impossible to hook up your computer to your 52" plasma TV.. Unfortunately, computer monitors aren't made any larger than 17" either.. it's also impossible to play computer games with a controller.. and if that's not bad enough, there's no such thing as a wireless keyboard or mouse, so you're clearly tethered to the machine. Expensive surround sound systems don't work with computers either. Also, it costs an arm and a leg to play online games on the computer. I'm also sure there aren't any free voice chat programs you can use either.. It probably can't play any kind of entertaining multimedia format, like CDs, DVDs, HD-DVDs, Blu-Ray, or any other kind of purely digital format that a console can or can't play. Clearly, the PC is incapable of doing anything a console can. Hell, don't even mention fun, you won't find that on PC either, because that titles a console exclusive.

Oh darn.. looks like the computers a dull featureless broken down no fun at all tethered to the desk kind of machine. Oh well.. what can you do?

sorry but this is really lame, we get ur point, all varnull said was that the console experience is a LOT better than the PC route. With a console, you don't have to buy any fancy hookups or any drivers, or update your console with the newest graphics card when a game comes out, or get the newest patch..and so forth. With a PC its a whole different experience and with that some people enjoy both worlds while some don't. So next time you want to be "sarcastic" think a little bit before you cut someone else's opinion/preference down.
