The MPAA sues two more movie streaming sites

30 July 2008 14:53 by Andre "DVDBack23" Yoskowitz | 19 comments

The MPAA sues two more movie streaming sites The MPAA has announced two new lawsuits against movie streaming sites, this time trying to get Fomdb.com and MovieRumor.com taken down for good.

Both sites are very similar and allow access to current movies such as "The Dark Knight", "Hancock", and "Get Smart" all available as streaming video, no BitTorrent client necessary.

"There are many people operating illegal websites like these who are profiting from the theft of protected content. We have filed several other similar lawsuits and will continue to do so in order to hold operators accountable for their illegal activities. We have every intention of shutting down these, and sites like them, for good,”
said John Malcolm, Executive Vice President and Director of Worldwide Anti-Piracy Operations for the MPAA.

In their press release the MPAA states that both sites combined generate about 27,000 unique visitors every day and that the sites have about 100,000 pages available to users.

As of this morning Fomdb.com had disabled any links relating to movies currently in theaters while MovieRumor.com was still fully operational.

Man! I just check that out like JUST NOW and The Dark Knight started playing. I hope that the MPAA not only gets these taken down with vigilance and extreme prejudice but I hope the site owners get shackled at the feet and tossed in a deep lake, river or ocean.

I have so much love for movies and respect that there needs to be SOME integrity regarding them. Watching cams/TS stream with Asian subtitles at the bottom is just bad. I turned off after 10 seconds out of respect for an industry that brings me so much happiness and content.

But those WHO LIKE TO LEACH OFF SOCIETY AND JUSTIFY YOUR RAMPANT THEFT OF MOVIES AND THOSE WHO NEVER EVER BUY DVDs will enjoy this.

I figured this would get misinterpreted.

Of course. I have a balanced collection of 200 DVDs (Mine and purchased) and 3 or 4 hundred flicks(the 700MB kind, 4GB kind) but the line is crossed when you stream ghetto crap from Cams, TS and the like while the movies are still in theatres. HAVE A LITTLE INTEGRITY. You wanna see the movie while it's as fresh as The Dark Knight, Wall-E, Wanted and Hancock.................

THEN DON'T BE A GHETTO LOSER AND LEACH AND GO TO THE FUCKING THEATRE AND GIVE PROPS TO THOSE WHO PUT SMILES ON THE VIEWER'S FACES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These movies are as fresh as fresh gets with GD stupid Asian subtitles. Ghetto ghetto ghetto. The sites are ghetto, the owners/operators are LOSERS and leaches and I hope they get taken down and the owners shackled (please refer to original comment.)

(Sorry AD for that word but it seems called for-expecting an editing)

Nope...............I just don't watch or download movies while they're still in the theatre. Did it ONCE with a flick called Mindhunters. I go to see them. 10 bucks ain't so bad for a movie that makes one feel good or puts a smile on one's face. And in my mind, it'll be out on DVD in 3 months.

Now now....no need to fight. I don't know why someone would want to watch a movie that was recorded with a cam. I saw a movie trailer that was done with a cam and I could barely watch it for the length of the trailer. Couldn't imagine someone watching a whole movie like that.

Wow the number of visitor to those sites, that had to be a lot of ad money and money spend on bandwidth.

lynch, there are people that always need to justify what they do. There are others that don't. I am one that doesn't. I once got upset at a few people that justified their "pirating" actions and it was a waste of energy trying to agrue your point of view. All it did was get me and them upset and this site isn't about making people mad but helping and discussion. At least that is what I have found this site to be. :-)

Right and Wrong?...uhmmm, the line is blurred.

I have downloaded movies before and watched them, but I didn't make any money off of it. And I think that is where I draw the line between right and wrong. These guys are taking someone else's work and reselling it via ad sales, and making big bucks. To me, that does cross over to theft.

Fine if it costs 10 bucks... what about here where including travel you are lucky to get change from £40.. eh? eh?..IF the studios would wise up and stick a nice low res 640x480 cam type print on the news stands at £2 like the pirates do with a paper sleve nice and basic I would happily buy it. I'm ghetto and proud of the fact that I have the wherewithall to keep myself entertained without paying the criminals on the street corners and markets. The cinema is too expensive and too far.. end of story. All our small local cinemas went out of business during the 70's.. I suppose you are going to blame piracy for that too?

Lol some random guy is calling others out after admitting he has 300-400 downloaded movies yet has only legally purchased 200. Didn't your parents teach you not to throw stones if you live in a glass house?

    Please leave.

I wonder exactly how much money has been wasted on shutting down file sharing servers? I am sure it is at least close to the cost of the files being pirated...

Simply the best if you are looking for the best software for scanning and removing spyware and malware (especially those picked up through file downloading and sharing)

I like my glass house, loads of Amplified UV rays.

there are a lot of legit streaming sites better than those two, im not a big movie fan but..yeah...MPAA is a plague on the very industry there in.

10 bucks for WHAT??? A 90 minute or 2 hour movie that has already shown all the content worth watching in the adverts they show to get you to go watch the rest of the movie (the crappy part)?

My 4 cents worth (inflation lol) says that IF somebody is interested in watching the movie at the theater BUT wants to make sure that it's WORTH paying for then sample the movie online first and if it seems good then go pay at the theater.

The problem is that the Movie Industry and the Music Biz operate similiar to each other. The music industry inundates you with the one or two good songs on an album to get you to go buy it only to find out that the other 8-10 songs are crap. The movie biz shows you different commercials of the same movie (all the good, exciting and funny bits) and then you get there and realize you saw the best bits for free in the adverts.

Now if the MPAA would provide vouchers to the theaters to give patrons which allow someone to walk out of a movie within the first 1/2 of the movie and get a coupon for a free movie (on any night of the week any movie) without penalizing the theater by still charging 80% of the ticket price for the movie walked out on AND 80% of the ticket price of the free movie used on the voucher THEN people who 'pirate' movies to screen would probably be less inclined to do so.

For the other 90%+ of people who wouldn't go to the theater anyways then there is no way of getting their money anyways. Cater to consumers, treat them like they are your bread and butter, and increase tyhe chances of profiting from the ones who WOULD spend.

And before someone sniffles down at an increase of 10% profits do the math. The thing is the media companies DON'T want the piece of the pie they CAN get and instead piss 100% of it away for the sake of their (twisted) principles. My Nanny used to have a saying for this... Cutting their nose off to spite their face.

Furthermore, the real (IMHO) reason they do this is not to stop piracy (the cat's been out of that bag for awhile now and there aint no signs its going to go back in the bag) but to gain the 'proof' they need to further hamper our rights and increase their power and profits through player taxes, media taxes, home A/V taxes, etc etc.

And finally can we not all finally recognize the TRUTH and acknowledge said truth that Copyright Infringement and Theft are NOT the same thing. If it was then the fines would be cost of product and $250 fine for first offense NOT up to $150,000 per file.

Under current laws someone would be better of walking into the theater with a gun, threatening the workers and customers, firing off a few rounds and heck maybe even outright killing someone and stealing the actual film print as opposed to making a cam recording of the movie while not stealiing a thing!

And organizations feeling that copyright infringment is somehow more henious than theft, killing, rape, child abuse, murder etc ARE NOT GHETTO????

Get a grip! These people are the real leeches of, and on, society. And no, I do not download movies, music, software or other IP. I don't rip and resell media keeping a copy for myself and I think that it IS wrong to do so-- and frequently harp on a friend of mine who has built a VAST collection of music and movies via copyright infringement.

But my disageeing with doing these things doesn't mean that I have blinders on either.

Two sand grains have been removed. Oh joy! Beach haters rejoice, the beach culture is coming to an END! The MPAA can celebrate now! Pass out the champagne!

Translation for Snark Impaired MPAA & RIAA.

Sand grains = movie streaming websites.

Beach Haters = Any AA associated individual or type.

Conclusion = If you can't figure that out...forget it.

Don't watch the crappy movies in a crappy format. It just makes the movies worse. My digital cable look shi**y enough. Grainy downloads aren't any better.

I download movies, sure. Frankly, at ~$31,00/yr. (good benefits though- lol), I CAN'T watch too many theater movies! I really do prefer the theater but the local multiplex is ~$10 per ticket ($8 matinee, and that's before the $7 popcorn and $5-6 soda. So, the local cinema only gets the $$ for the movies I was going to watch there anyway.

Still, for the big flicks I REALLY want to see (TDK, for one), I shell out the cash. It's less fun throwing Skittles at the front row at home xD . Seriously though, even though I have a great widescreen monitor and 5.1 surround on my PC, it just ain't the same as the theater.

My main point is essentially that, while I actually prefer the "honest" method, I often plain can't afford their rapacious prices. Considering that, along with the majority of the US, I'm "middle class", that's called "pricing yourself out of the market"; a fundamental error in Capitalism.

A friend of mine once gave me one of those cam movies, I cannot fathom how anybody can watch that, after about 10 minutes I became nauseous, they can keep them.
