DVD X Copy Platinum released

4 September 2003 11:38 by Jari Ketola | 42 comments

DVD X Copy Platinum released 321 Studios has released a new DVD backup tool called DVD X Copy Platinum. DVD X Copy Platinum features new TDF technology, which allows the user to customize the compression level of each title set individually. The self-made TDF-files can also be shared with other Platinum-users.

DVD X Copy Platinum finally features support for episodic discs, which means that backups of series DVDs, such as The Simpsons or Star Trek can be made without problems.

In addition to DVD X Copy Platinum, the bundle includes DVD X Copy XPRESS for very simple, one click backups, as well as DVD X Rescue, which allows you to test readibility of DVDs, and rescue discs with read errors.

The first impressions of the software are very positive indeed. Even though it offers a lot more flexibility than the previous versions, DVD X Copy Platinum is still easy and straight forward to use. We'll be taking a more in-depth look at the software soon.

Visit the DVD X Copy home page to learn more about the software, and purchase it. It's currently available for $119.99 after a $30 mail-in rebate.

oriphus, unless it is in agreeance with your opinion then you think you have to be an ass@*@*. Quite frankly some of us have real jobs and don't have the time to dedicate to recording dvds. We also have lives outside your computer lived world, so if you don't like it, simply say so, but don't go out of your way to bash a product simply because you can't afford it, or have to actually pay for it.

While both sides of this debate raise good reasons for their personal preference, it seems like the bulk of this arguement revolves around FREE vs. FEE. I happen to be one of those not-so-rich users that can't afford to buy every new version that comes on the market. I purchased DVD X Copy Gold just 4 weeks ago. 7 days ago, I learned that it was already going to be obsoleate with the release of Platinum. But I was very pleased with the fact that 321 didn't see the need to charge me all over again. Instead, they had qualified me for a FREE upgrade to Platinum. You and I both know that they didn't have to. But a company that treats their customers like this deserve my patronage. So maybe I had to pay something. But I'm getting exactly what I paid for...High quality software and quality customer support.

I am not against anyone having an opinion, it is their right. It is how it is presented. There is no need or reason to bash a product or company. If you don't like there product for whatever reason, then simply state your reasons and go on with your life. You don't have to get upset with other people for choosing to buy or use their product. I don't get upset because you choose to get it for free. However as I have stated before, some of us don't have the time to devote to learning this procedure that you use. It seems like an awful lot to go through just to make up a backup copy. I personally don't have enough time in my day to try and learn all that "may" be needed to learn, so I chose the fastest and easiest way to backup my dvds. I am not out to hurt anyone, just offering an opinion.

Before, yes it was a lot of work to copy dvds. Now you just use dvdshrink to pick what you want in your dvd and to compress it. Then you just use your dvd burning software to burn.

Dvd shrink is so easy to learn you will laugh when you see it.

It is free. It is easy. It's not one click but it is easy.

Don't be lazy. It takes less than 5 minutes to learn and you have so much more control over the options.

No one is suing DVD Shrink are they? You want to know why? Because DVD Shrink had not even been imagined when X COPY came out. I'm glad there are free options out there, it actually helps increase the awareness.

But you might actually want to research your ludicrous claims that 321 is doing nothing but ripping people off. Last time I looked, 321 was the ONLY company standing up for your rights in the United States and now in Great Britain. And if 321 fails to withstand the mighty onslaught of Hollywood, you can bet that freeware programs like DVD Shrink will not be far behind, and in the end you all lose. That includes you freeware users as well.

We are the only company in the world standing up for consumer fair use rights and have publicly stated many times over that ALL our profits are poured back into our legal fight and making our technology better. That translates into better products and protection of your freedoms. We've never asked one person for one thin dime for our legal defense and that is also public record.

So before you go making such ridiculous claims that 321 is all about profit and money, you might want to consider what Hollywood is all about and how 321 has put its money where its mouth is.

321 is doing everything possible to ensure that your future is not stolen from you by the true pirates in this world, the corporate monopolies and monolithic congolomerates known collectively as the Entertainment Industry.

Cheers!

THE DVDSHRINK IS THE BEST out there, but we have to give 321 studios a reward to stand up for consumers (like US) fair use rights (US)the people. They are (alone) poured back into (legal fight) and making our technology better for the People agains a big MOnster .Is there other company doing the same???
100% agreed with (rhmoore)

For RHMOORE. I understand sir that you are the president and heard that you do circulate amongst the forum. I have written at least 4 messages that were probably not flattering to 321 on this site but I get to the point and sometimes it is not pretty. I like your software. Period! I am looking at others but I use yours. When someone promotes something for me to buy, I listen very seriously to what is being said and make my purchase decision based on that. I also want to say before I go on that the people who answer phones for you should get a raise for all the crap they must have to put up with. Your tech support is fine but 2hours on hold! I seriously did spend that long on hold and over an hour a few other times. I made the suggestion several times as to why you don't put information on what is listened to while customers are on hold. It would probably cut out half of your phone calls. It would have for me with the one simple question that I had but you insist on the same stupid trivia question over and over. I know it would probably take some doing to do that but I am sure it would be worth it to the customer if not you at 321. You have a lot of new people and even though I have talked with tier level 1, 2 and 3 techs and Amber at 2:00 A:M(hello
Amber)I get 10 different opinions or suggestions from 10 different people. I apologize to everyone of your employees that I might have been rude to but I look at people in your position as being guilty of this happening. I am keeping the product and after you get the bugs worked out, I hopefully will not have to spend any more money on high phone bills (when you say tech support is free, it is very misleading with the incredible hold time). The last thing I will say is that you do not really have competition so to speak, so why do you advertise Platinum as having the TDF file feature working when all know it doesn't at present? Or does it? How are we to know, we have to spend our time going to sites like this that are not even 321's site! Anyway, I blew off my steam at you (rather expressed some very valid concerns) and I am sure you have seen worse. I would be happy to look at new products you may offer one day but you have to realize just how important efficient support is for your product. Thanks for your time....Chuck Smith

Program: DVD Copy Plat...
Questions:
1. Non compression means better quality?
2. Is it possible to remake disk #2, without having to make #1 again?
3. Will this mode allow for writing to DVD-RW?
4. How do I formatt a DVD-RW? What software can I use?
Sorry for ALL the questions, but I am getting an accumulation of "coasters" and DVD's are expensive.
Maybe if 321 Studios privided BETTER documentation for their software I would be a lot happier. When the programs work they are Great! But when you have problems, that is another issue all together!!
Sorry for the venting, but I NEED help!
Thanks,
Paul

I'm only new to the scene, but have been using dvd copy express and think it's an awesome product, seeing as i don't want all menus and extra crap, this s/ware is beautiful.

Am currently checking out DVD Shrink, the added flexibility of platinum, but without the price. I respect what you're doing Robert, keep up the excellent work.

To RHMOORE and everyone in this thread. I have been using Platinum after upgrading from X Copy Gold in September. I only had Gold since August 22nd. I went through hell figuring all of this out and do not like the fact that I published my comments for all to see(the one above is easily the nicest). RH, you did not respond to one of my tirades and I think everyone can see why,as I hit the nail on the head. (believe me, where I am going with this is not to bash anyone just a history lesson). It ALL boiled down to LACK OF COMMUNICATION. You have very intelligent people on the phone but I had a simple question and it boiled down to my home player is -R and my burner is +R. I got all of that resolved, as I ended up figuring it out myself. But then came the TDF issue which I have never used yet and the "Force DVD Rom" checkbox mystery. I could not get an answer regarding either for quite some time and all of this rolled into one, (read my previous post) made for a very angry customer. I got a call from my computer friend and said that his friends had purchased Platinum 3.2.1 from Fry's in Renton WA for well over $100.00 and were very angry with not being able to get the product to work and what they went through with 321 support. By the time I talked to them, they could have easily written anything that I have put to word at AfterDawn. They purchased it in late November and I couldn't believe the same problems were occurring. I went through some things with them and they actually got it to work (no I am not expecting a reward). This is a good and easy product if you are lucky enough to get the bugs worked out the first time through. However, the consumer should not be a beta site when they pay this much and consumers are or have been in the past. I also applaud you for the right to record using your product but I did not purchase a place in the 321 army, I just bought a product for what I was told it would do. I have talked to good people at 321 since but I am still skeptical about purchasing X Maker as I got 3 different opinions from 3 different tech reps. I do not want to go through troubleshooting that and have adequate programs for video capture as it is. I want to see comments come in positive from now on but it will take time. It is up to you, RH MOORE to turn consumer opinion around.

By the way, why is the margin on the left of my comments pink instead of gray like everyone elses? Am I being singled out? You can probably tell I do not use sites like this much.

csmith, its not the fault of dvdxcopy or 321 technical support that you bought the wrong burner or burn the wrong format and couldn't figure it out for yourself. "Ummmmm your software doesn't work because I'm a dumbass"

BEWARE DVD X COPY PLATINUM purchasers! I have just paid the advertised price of near to a few hundred big ones for the program only to find after opening the box that it is Ripper Free.....(and i thought i was getting something for nothing).

Hey arbutus, you might try reading the entire comment (yeah I know it is long). What it hits on is Lack Of Communication which it seems like you have a bit of a problem reading things correctly which is a lack of Communication on your part. I wasn't trying to piss anyone off with my post and apologize to everyone involved. You sound like the pencil neck geek that has all the time in the world to sit at your gaming computer. By the way, I have many years computer experience, so again, read before you leap, grasshopper.
