Easy CDDA Extractor 6.5 Poikosoft has released a new version of their very popular audio CD ripper/encoder/burner combo. The new version features major codec updates for the most popular format. Easy CDDA is the first software title to utilize the recent LAME 3.95.1 version, which promises speed and quality improvements.

Easy CD-DA Extractor v6.5:
  • Updated MP3 encoder; Speed & Quality improvements (LAME 3.95.1)
  • "Turboed" WMA decoder; Conversions from WMA files to other formats are now up to 100 times faster
  • Compressor; Similar to normalization except it adjusts volume level higher on quiet parts of a song; Useful for music that is going to be listened with a portable player or in a car CD-player
  • Latest ID3V2 tag standard supported; ID3V2 v2.4.0
  • Updated interface allows entering additional ID3V2 fields such as Comment, URL, Copyright
  • Speed up MP3 decoding; File Converter and CD Creator now has more powerful MP3 decoding
  • Enhanced the CD-ripping robustness; Added timeout that cancels the operation if the CD-reader does not respond for commands plus prevention of illegal CD-reader settings for error recovery modes
  • AAC (MPEG-2/AAC); updated encoder
  • MP4 (MPEG-4/AAC); updated encoder
  • M4A (MPEG-4/AAC); updated encoder
  • Ogg Vorbis; updated encoder and decoder (Ogg Vorbis 1.0.1)
  • Ogg Vorbis; Fixed a bug reading the metadata
  • FLAC; Fixed a bug reading the metadata
  • FLAC; Compression Levels 0-8 (Improved lossless compression ratio when CL8 is used)
  • M4A (MPEG-4/AAC); Changed metadata reading & writing iTunes compatible
  • Audio CD Creator; Shows the track number from ID3 tag, sort by filename, title, number, and length
  • Bugfix: Auto freedb now works when Auto read CD-Text is enabled and no CD-Text is found from the disc

    EAC can do all of that...and its free, it doesn't require an entire software update to change encoders as well(that is what I ascertained from that above changelog as I have never used Easy CD-DA Extractor)

    And although it will decode WMA files into other formats, I doubt very much that it will decode "Protected Content" (DRM-crippled) wma files. (Although I don't know of any other program that will either).

    I think that sort of thing should be mentioned in the software description, because otherwise, some people might look at the program specifically for that *one* function.
