I think the DS was a replacement for the GBA and well, it's doing quite well to go and replace it with something. Still selling out at my local stores.

I have an asterisks phone at home, and it sucks. I hope nintendo can get it right, and use something else. cause I don't want to have to compile my pbx again.

iPhone = cell phone
wii-phone = replacement for home telephone :-)

If its voip does that mean it will plug into the wii via usb or connect wireless to the Wii and then use the wii's net to call etc?
If its a mobile phone to its self then I think they have gone to far wheres the Nintendo that was 10 years ago if thats a mobile phone nothing to do with the actual Nintendo Wii.

It seems out of character for nintendo to try and step into communications. Aren't they the one who keep saying that they're a game only company?

At first it wasnt, it was more of a side project like the virtual boy. Another gameboy was suppose to come a year after the DS but the system really took off and while having specs inferior to the PSP it crushed it and UMD format died. Why make another system now?

too far? why. why would you limit any company to a specific genre. I would love to have a nintendo phone. making a phone wouldnt make their wii any worse you know. That stuff doesnt really make sense, if they make a good phone that can compete, especially if its seperate from their nintendo i would support it fully. Its not like the same person is making both and doesnt have enough time to fully develop both products, they have different departments making each product. ive been picky about people falling into marketing images, but in this case, i think it would be cool to have a nintendo phone due a lot to it just being nintendo, and looking like a nintendo controller. Its simplistic, and if they do it right, it could be pretty cool.



and im glad there are people that agree i-stuff sucks. i know eventually superior products will take over, but its just sad that apple has such a domination over the entire market. it will get better, and once it does buy some stock in napster, cause itunes blows.

the wiiPhone will be wireless. it'll just communicate over 802.11g like all other voip products.

I don't think nintendo can make any money from voip technology. Asterisks (& Skype) are both open source. if anything, nintendo may have to PAY to license the voip tech, unless they team up with another voip provider.

And no, this won't compete with the iPhone (even though I think it'd be really cool if it did). The range on the wiiPhone will be about 75 feet. so, not exactly cell phone technology.

Im not going to reply to this anymore,This si oen of the most stupid ideas that I have heard im a nintendo fan a big one i have mosrtly nintendo consoles but this is just completely gay you all dont know what will happend do you know what I think if anyone remembers the Virtual Boy it was gay why didnt it sell good it wasnt revolutionary it made people think that 3D is crap with the monochrome screen but also because the people didnt belive that this product would be good comming from a a company that only made Video game consoles sure this was a console but you had to look through googles and it looked wierd for something nintendo made this si goign to be the same thing with the phone People Wont belive its good as its being made by a company that has only made videogames for the last 30 years no one is goign to go on Wikipedia.org and type in nintendo and find what they did previous to these 30 years are they?,if they did they woudl also see Nintendo's products were not succefull the only succesfull things they ahd were,Aracde Machines,Playing Cards,Game Consoles all those taxi services went down cause no one belived that a card compamny makes good taxi's.

What im tryign to get to you is Nintendo SUCKS at making products other then console looking things all other they have tried have failed quickly after their start they could prevent this by making the Phone a Wii atachment which connects to the Wii wirelesly via bluetooth and and operate it through the Wii's net connection through a Voip type software that would work as its an add on but as I cell phone that thing just looks gay to be a cellphone its the size of a wiimote cmon who has carried a phone that big in the past 6 years? I know I havent I had a samll nokia even in 99 why would someone want to use a big chunky clucnky thing instead of using somethig like the Iphone people will buy this as an ataachment
not a mobile phone,or a house phone it just looks like a toy hwo would want everything in your house to be Modern and in the corner you have a Cordless phone which looks like a toy?
I guess other people want it I know I want the Iphone which most liely will do much much better in the market.

i think its a kick ass idea for a cell phone cuz if u could plug it in to the wii wireless or usb whatever,but not only can u probably use it as an extra controller,but also if it goes through the internet it would probably have a cool plan where u could call all over the world and not have to worry about long distance crap,that and i would like to play nintendo games that were made by nintendo {not cheap cell phone knock off games}on my phone.make it play mp3s too so it will kick the crap outta the iphone,im kinda sick of the ipod fad myself.i would love to see little kid nintendo games put the whole market at a friggen standstill,that would rock!

A Wii Phone from Nintendo? C’mon; this seems a little far fetched, or is it? Recently we’ve seen the iPhone, rumors of a Zune Phone and now this.

According to T3 there is a distinct possibility that Nintendo may be coming out with some type of phone combined with the console remote. There had been some rumors last year about adding a microphone to the controller, and Nintendo has been taking advantage of internet based services with the Wii console, lately. This combination could possibly lend itself nicely to some type of VoIP service.

T3 found this information via the patent office showing plans of a Wii remote looking device with gaming keys and what looks like a dialing keypad. I wonder what kind of damage someone could do with this? We’ll keep watching…

i would like to think that companies dont make stupid things that seemed far fetched but nintedo made virtual boy! and if it puts a hole in ipods pocket im all down for whatever it is,so i would expext anything from them,and apparently they are the only company making money not the ps3 or xbox360 so why not try new things while the console is going strong,now is the best time for them while the other companies are still trying to make their money back for their expensive machines.
