Microsoft to support tilting with the 360

6 April 2007 8:27 by Dave "Davedough" Horvath | 22 comments

Microsoft to support tilting with the 360 Leaving nothing to the competition, Microsoft has partnered with Talismoon to bring that tilting goodness previously found only in Nintendo's Wiimote and Sony's SIXAXIS controller.

Talismoon's tiltboard is set to get a full on "mass production" makeover which will polish its control over Microsoft games and allow 360 users the ability to control their games without touching the D-pad or analog control sticks. Details are very slim right now, only a video showing off what it can do in these early stages.

A rather excited representative from Talismoon simply stated that this partnership "will be worth the wait".

    I knew they'd catch up.

Also I knew it would cost $40 per controller. Wonder if they can prove me wrong and make it $10. That would make it comparable price to Wii-mote and nunchuck.

Everyone hating on Microsoft again... this will be a "tacked-on" feature, if I can call it that. Just look at the PS3's use of it. Wii is completely built around the tilting. I don't see any reason for MS to even bother.

I call it what it is the same thing that the saxias is...a gimmick.... the WII is only console to make it the center of the control thus its less of a gimmick....LOL

and sony dosent clone and copy, innovation is made when you invent something new or take something thats already made and reinvent it.

    MS reinvented online play

Sony reinvented.....err....uumm..... controllers look at the core of the dual analog design nearly everyone has copied it both nintendo(GC) and MS(Xbx) tried to do their own thing with the designed and over all failed the "daul shock" is still one of the best controller designs MS even gave in and saw the perfection in it and placed the B/W buttons as shoulder buttons, sure sony them selfs might have shrunk the controller a bit to much for the PS3 but the core design of it is still solid.

Has anyone actually played on sony's ps3 controller? I have and its like holding a warped brick. I can only play motostorm for 20 mins as its uncomfortable. Plus sony copied MS with the middle button. The one that turns on the console ect.

You got to give it to Afterdawn for twisting the story completely. This has nothing to do with Microsoft. The modder who created the board Adam Thole reached an agreement with specialty accessory maker Talismoon to commercially produce his tiltBoard module for Microsoft's console. It's just a 3rd party add on and I doubt this will see the light of day.

I would really like to know who posted this. He obviously did not bother to read up because this has nothing to do with Microsoft yet his heading is "Microsoft supports tilt".

You mean Sony copied the SNES controller, only adding shoulder buttons, and then added "Dual Shock" analog sticks after the N64 had success with theirs. It was openly admitted Sony copied the SNES many years ago, because Sony was supposed to make an add-on to the SNES console. Instead, it materialized into the PlayStation.

I do believe that Nintendo even had a lawsuit against Sony for adding the two analog sticks to their controller, but the suit was dropped. Can anyone else back up these details?

the PSX in many ways was the next SNES sony hurt nin by doing their own thing the WII is payback baby :X

Im no fanboy to any system, but its funny how i read long before that those MS fanboys always says hows everything the PS3 has is retarded and copying others. Well this just seems that MS Xbox360 is starting to become just like a PS3 just without any HD player. Would those MS fanboys still think the same way cuz then they would just be eating their own words. I wouldnt be surprised if there will be an Xbox360 Elite 2 and this time comes with and HD player built-in. But seeing how this is something MS wants to grasp in the market with this new feature then so be it. The console war is far from over yet i think MS is already showing some signs of weakness.

Agreed Zippy, the PSX was the next SNES only it was made by Sony...

MS is copying a bit too much. They had their own identity, but with the Elite and the possibility of this news, they look like they are playing "catch up" to the others instead of being "the industry leader" they are seeking to be.

Dude do some reading this has nothing to do with MS. It's just some college student Mod but Afterdawn was stupid enough to post it as Microsoft.

I dunno I see the Xbx as making headway for itself based on games it stole from the computer, and they have done well for them selfs all things considered, MS dose things heavy handedly and has to re correct itself allot I guess this comes from the OS side of things where mistakes go unnoticed because they do not make mistakes 0-o

When you boil it down the 360 is easy to code for and offers allot of power I wonder if devs like team ninja will still lean to it since the PS3 is a bit more powerful yet harder to code for,the PS3 might offer more polish in hardware but I wonder if devs will put up with it.

gaaa weapon fetish has kicked in
the WII is like a whip its versatile but dosent have allot of power.
the 360 is a sharp short sword it cuts well but lacks reach.
the PS3 is a dull axe it dosent cut well but it breaks things nicely, huge, cumbersome and powerful.

Nintendo had its fall from the light so did sega I wonder if its sony time for a bit of humble pie its hard to say since its the only Jp power console.

Every company does this company A has a technology you want to use in your new product so you license that technology paying company A a license fee. For example the unreal 3 engine how many game developers are using that tech? That’s where the real money is made in the licensing fees.

ya we have seen Sony try tie their formats to stuff now and then to gain fees off it,however since they were/are not "great" technologies no one wants to put up with the royalties.

Both MS and Sony miss the point great tech/formats/ect sale themselfs
