I just installed the latest version briefly and it's not ready for prime-time. <br/> <br/>I convert *.vob files to DivX and this app won't allow me to select the DivX codec for encoding. I was willing to use Xvid, but even though Xvid is installed properly, it tells me that "Xvid failed to open" etc. <br/> <br/>The producer of this app doesn't want to be bothered with writing documentation, but since he is the only one who really knows how it works, he's gonna need to, if he wants anybody to be happy with the program and donate. The app seems to lack very much in the way of error checking and feeding back informative and helpful explanations for various failures/crashes/mishaps. <br/> <br/>If you're into the latest H.264 craze, you may have a better experience.
@ enzo <br/>next time you do a review at least have the courtesy to research what you imply otherwise you end up with egg on ya face, after install there is nothing left behind only info sent is what extra app you installed if you bothered other than that no further communication is done <br/> <br/>mediacoder is great, obviously there's a bit of a learning curve but once sorted it's a primo app, been using it for around 3 years,i use the beta's there's the odd time where things didn't go well but what do i expect
Thought I'd chime in since I'm OpenCandy's Community Guru. <br/> <br/>OpenCandy is NOT spyware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spyware) or adware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adware). We provide software publishers, like MediaCoder, the ability to recommend a piece of software during installation that their users may find useful. <br/> <br/>Recommendations powered by OpenCandy are OPT-IN, which means you WILL NOT end up with software you didn't want simply by clicking 'Next' or 'Install'. <br/> <br/>We do NOT collect ANY personally identifiable information from users receiving recommendations. We DO NOT store IP addresses either. Our privacy policy is here: <a rel="nofollow" href="http://opencandy.com/privacy-policy." target="_blank">http://opencandy.com/privacy-policy.</a> We are updating our EULA and privacy policy to more accurately reflect this information. <br/> <br/>(I rated MediaCoder a three (3) or 'average' to be fair since I'm responding to a comment. Even though I'm a big fan of MediaCoder (I've been using it since v0.3.8) and would rate it higher. Not trying to spam the comments, just wanted to clear up any misconceptions about what we do and HOW we do it. ) <br/> <br/>Thanks :) <br/> <br/>Dr. Apps (@drapps)
Not Open Source anymore and contains adware/spyware. <br/> <br/>The source code is no longer available for recent releases of this software. Last version with source code is 0.5.1 from 2007. <br/> <br/>The program also silently installs the OpenCandy adware/spyware. Only at the very end of the license it says "You agree that OpenCandy may collect and use certain information obtained in connection with this software installation." <br/> <br/>Not recommended!!!
Every conversion from WMV to XVID (in the AVI container) fails to work on my Philips DVP-642. I'm guessing that the program doesn't support ESS compatibility. Also, every time I start MediaCoder, it automatically opens Firefox, even though I have checked the "don't open" box. I have removed Mediacoder from my computer. I'll try again in a few months and see if they have fixed these annoyances.
I own a Zune 30 so I convert all my videos to WMV. Well for whatever reason MediaCoder does not index WMV's correctly at all so the Zune software has to convert the file all over again. And trust me, the Zune software is the last thing I want to have converting my files. Its to bad this doesnt work for me because I hear it does other formats very well.
i just transcoded "dog the bounty hunter: the wedding special" and it took ONLY 67 MINUTES. and its a 1hr39 minutes long.
This is a comprehensive media converter with wide flexibility. It takes a bit of going over the program to grasp the full potential. Results are excellent!
For novice & professional alike, automated actions are listed under the title EXTENSIONS along the top menu bar for those of us who just want to get going, use the bottom of the program tab menu's to assign finished decode place folder & other minor ajustments
I gave this a 1, because I can't even get this program to run, it crashes upon startup. I was hoping this would be my converting solution.
the best
Its a bit complicated and until you figure it out, you yield crappy results. But worth a look.
this is a great program. It handles a lot of various formats. This has got to be the #1 product that i have downloaded. Its a step above the Video9.
