I don't get why the guy above would use its active development as a con, to me that is great. <img src="http://releasebytes.net/smiley" />
I love this codec!!! <br/> <br/>But DAMNNNNNNN It's updated atlot and often. <br/> <br/>XviD is no way near as good as x264, yes you can encode in XviD faster but i just don't care i'm never making a XviD rip again. <br/> <br/>I just start to encode with x264 before i go to bed so the time don't bother me as i never really see how long it takes.
Finest encoder ever created. Slow (not for long!), but worth it.
This is an excellent library! You can encode in DVD quality at a fraction of the size. Only downside is that it requires a lot of CPU power.
Constantly developed MPEG4-AAC codec. Quality is quite good, but use XVID for better compatibility & faster decoding speed.
