It appears that you have to select each file on a DVD individually to convert. I didn't find an option to convert the entire DVD. To test I selected one file of the DVD. The software stopped working. I closed the program and started over. The software stopped working. I went to the online help and followed their directions. The software stopped working. I uninstalled the software. I will continue using Im TOO DVD software with all its imperfections. They have good tech support. But I'm still open to suggestions for a better conversion from DVD to divX software.

WinMPG Video Convert v7.6.0

Results with the faster CPU AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400+ (3.2 GHz), motherboard GA-M61P-S3 BIOS F6, Windows XP, see 13-July-08 tests. All other things similar (not same). This mb and RAM runs dual core at full speed. Conversion time was 3:40 minutes for 105.7 MB MPEG-2 file to DivX ca. 30 MB, "normal" quality.

It is relative to physical clock speeds 3.2 GHz for 6400+ and 1.8 GHz for Sempron 3200+. It run mainly on one core, the other core did something small, but did not shorten processing time, so no benefit of dual-core. WinMPG speed is CPU bound even when using normal 7200 rpm hard disks and it could covert faster if using both cores. Anyway, good software and now converting faster than playing (3:40 minutes vs. 6:56 minutes).

Some tests with WinMPG 7.6.0 on AMD Sempron 3200+ 2 GB RAM: Original MPEG-2 file 105.7 MB, playing time 6:56 minutes - "normal quality" conversion 7:00 minutes to 28.8 MB DivX file, very little artifacts; "low quality" 7:10 minutes to 22.5 MB DivX file, visible motion artifacts, about S-VHS quality. Sound was good in both tests. Conversion time seems to be independent of quality, about equal to playing time on this hardware. When conversion was stopped before the end, the converted part, at least in DivX format, was playing OK as far as the conversion was stopped, not lost like with some conversion programs. Easy to use, but the user must know the video file types he is converting.
