SlySoft offers Game Jackal Pro

Written by James Delahunty @ 03 Apr 2007 3:55 User comments (48)

SlySoft offers Game Jackal Pro SlySoft acquired Game Jackal from Australian software company Jackal Consulting last month after the company was forced to take down the software due to new Australian copyright law. Now SlySoft is offering Game Jackal Pro on its website. Here is the description...
Game Jackal Pro is the ultimate "must have" killer app for the PC gamer! If you, like most gamers, find it annoying looking for and inserting the CD-ROM for your favorite game each time you play it, then Game Jackal Pro is for you.
Keeping your gaming investment safe: One major concern gamers have is the CD's life span. The CD-ROM for a popular game may be inserted and removed many hundreds of times, this of course leads to the inevitable "Unable to read" error and ultimately a trip to the trash.

Unleash your games and go gaming "cd free" in seconds: Using Game Jackal Pro eliminates the need to insert the CD-ROM before playing your favorite title, therefore allowing you to fire up your favorite game in seconds.

Easy to use: Game Jackal Provides the user with a powerful and easy to use interface to go gaming "cd free". It does this without modifying any of your game's files or installing any virtual drives on your system. Simply select the game you want to play from the Game Jackal Pro interface, or create a desktop shortcut for even faster access.

Image mode: Image mode adds support for games that need to stream data directly from the CD or DVD during game play.

Keep young eyes from playing games that may not right for them: Game Jackal Pro comes complete with a feature called Guardian Control, this feature allows restrictions to be placed on game profiles.

Young gamers can make short work of a game CD: Being able to pack away the game CD has proven to be extremely popular with parents of young gamers, where a game can be destroyed in weeks!

There's no other product like it: The simple fact is that Game Jackal Pro stands alone. There's no other product on the market that delivers the flexibility and functionality that Game Jackal Provides.

Guardian Control
Ok... so Game Jackal Provides you with a way to protect game CD's from the little hands of a young gamer, but how do we then stop these same young gamers from playing games that may not be appropriate?
Game Jackal Pro contains a very unique and powerful feature called Guardian Control, this allows a game profile to be password protected thereby ensuring that only specific users (i.e. those knowing the password) can play the game. And because your CD-ROM's are now put away for safe keeping, there's no fear of accidentally leaving a disc in the drive for a young gamer to find.
So now that we have limited what a young gamer can play, wouldn't it be great if we could limit when games could be played? Well once again Game Jackal Pro provides a way... Guardian Control also allows rules to be created that detail when and how long games can be played. These rules can be as simple as defining a time (i.e. between 6:30PM and 8:30PM) during the week days in which games can be played to complex rules that involve many periods in which a young person can go gaming.

Does SlySoft plan to support the existing Game Jakal subscribers?

215.4.2007 08:30

I believe for a $10 US fee, they will continue to support and update current Game Jackal users.

On Digg this article is titled: "Slysoft Inc. Acquires Game Jackal Pro (clone of Alcohol 120%)"

Reading the bullet-points above:

Quote:
Game Jackal Provides the user with a powerful and easy to use interface to go gaming "cd free". It does this without modifying any of your game's files or installing any virtual drives on your system.
So is Game Jackal Pro really just a clone of Alcohol or not? I already have Alcohol 120%, and we all know it uses virtual drives to do its thing. I would imagine that GJ uses them for what it calls "image mode" for CDs that require streaming content from the CD-ROM during play. But if it can allow most copy-protected games to play without the CD-ROM or a virtual drive, then how is this a "clone of Alcohol 120%"?

Bottom line: does Game Jackal Pro provide anything substantially different from what I've already got? Do most games require streaming data from the CD-ROM, thus making GJ -- in practice -- no different than other virtual drive solutions?

235.4.2007 15:14

@billybob

SlySoft does not have a download for GameJackal setup at this moment. But I imagine one would be up and running soon as they have their page for the program setup and in a email response from SlySoft they stated that they expect the product to be available in the earlier part of April.

@gaspasser/beastgre

This is true. Before when 1 purchased a GameJackal license it was for that specific version of the program. But since GameJackal is property of SlySoft Inc. now it uses the SlySoft licensing system. So for $10 USD a previous GameJackal customer can transfer their GameJackal License to the new SlySoft licensing system and get all the benefits that go along with it. Such as free updates, the excellent customer support, etc.

Dear PeaInAPod: I apologize for saying that it was not offered, but if you go to there website you cannot find it. I mean't no disrespect, if the link you provided, which still doesn't offer a download, was posted, well lets just say I can see your point. Thanks for the article.

Now you may be right, i apoligise if you are. But i was under the impression that a no cd-crack was just circumventing the copy protection....whereas Daemon Tools is actually tricking the computer into thinking the disc has been inserted (by mounting the image on a virtual drive). They are 2 totally different things.

Oh, and i recall someone above saying that gamejackal works/worked for Battlefield 2....whereas Daemon Tools didnt.

298.4.2007 13:53

lxfactor
ya but there are not many all in programs that can handle most if not all protection schemes this can be a great thing if they do it right and save you from having to get questionable cracks and hack just to play a game without a CD.

I couldn't get Alcohol to work with battlefield2 either, it made image file except the file wouldn't work.

Newer games (2 or 3 years old) black list Image programs and make gettign games to work fun.I recall getting Sacred to work with Game jackle as it was the only program that was not black listed if Sly soft updates GJ it should be a great program to get past the pointlessness of copy protection.

328.4.2007 15:18

Thank you zippyDSM.

I actually enjoyed trying to get battlefield 2 to work. But i couldnt. Which wasnt so fun lol.

I ahve done my fair share of playing with cracks and found IDs key system(D3,Q4,ect,ect) to be near perfect all it needs to do is check online now and then no copy protection that might screw over a computer needed but no they want OTT protections thinking it will save them moeny when all it dose is raise a games price acouple bucks....and makes the game more likely to get copied because its to pricey for medocaricy.

BTW have you looked into direct 2 drive? while I hate its pricing shceme (pubs force them to be higher than they should)

they do something different than most distro places you get a game in zip format the copy protections have been removed from the game.

If one finds them selfs wanting to buy new retail its a better option than OTT protections.

I hate the pricing scheme tho they are not doing anythign to really help them selfs if they would offer it at 20% from retail price and leave it at that price for 18 months it would give both the publisher and the site funds to do more with what they got.

ya the price setup is insane you don't get a box you don't get a manual you don't get DVD I love how the industry thinks it can get away with this BS even the older stuff they offer is 20$ I am like WTF....I swear the industry is doing everything it can to protect itself from the consumer....

oh I've not been able to fidn any?
All I can find is cd/dvd rips of games and at 6GB plus they are not worth downlaoding 0-o
LOL

I wonder if the indutry is really tryign to drive off all consumers with the crap they pull....

409.4.2007 02:36

Yeh!
Like, battlefield 2. Thers loads of them, size of about 1.91 gb. But noone could get it too work apparently.

6gb+ you say? I havent seen one with that much. The maximum ive seen is ghost recon 2 advanced warfighter, with a size of 2.5gb.

Then again, i dont play many games, im sure games like oblivion and stuff are probably alot more. Butyes, theres loads.

To mods or snitches (:P), this conversation is for educational purposes only.

There are sites that search all the torrents on the web, such ass www.torrentz.com....or www.isohunt.com.

Oh, and i cant wait til slysoft officially release gamejackal.

Ah thos are mostly rips and such,I think the 7GB monster I was referring to was m&m dark messiah heck 3GB takes a week half the time its not worth putting up with cracking hacking and gettign updates to work just to play the thing right, however if I like the game I will by it for 20 used,I got Prey collection ed for 25 with shipping about 6 or 7 months ago,I tend to refuse to buy medicoreness new or at half price.

there is one game I willing to kill 60 for and thats bioshock :X

To be fair, the GameJackal page on the Slysoft site is just a placeholder page, Aland is correct, this article is in error. If you try to buy Gamejackal, you will find that it's currently not on their buy page, and if you look at their forums, they've been waiting for the past week and a half for the program to be made available. Supposedly it will be available any day now.
