Logitech creating PSPgo UMD add-on?

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 02 Dec 2009 9:51 User comments (12)

Logitech creating PSPgo UMD add-on? According to CVG, Logitech is busy developing a UMD drive add-on for the UMD-less PSPgo handheld, a device that would plug directly into the PSPgo and allow playback of UMD movies and games.
The snag, however, is that "the only problem is that it'll make the PSP a little bulky", says the report.

Despite the sources, a Logitech UK response said "We're not aware of it, so it may be something the US office is working on."

The PSPgo is Sony's first entry into the physical media-less gaming market as the handheld can only play games that are downloaded to the internal memory or a memory stick.

To little to late......

But, it's nice that another company is working on something to make it work with games and movies from the past.

Wouldn't be supprised right? I don't own one but I was just trying to be positive for all those that do have one :o)

So, instead of buying a more affordable and moddable older unit, people would buy the more expensive unit, plus a drive, and have something even bigger than the original?

Seems downright silly!

That news just makes PSPGO even more expensive.

i never really understand why they released PSPGO, it should be tagged for less than 150 euros or not at all.

It's already been reported on IGN.com that no, Logitech is not making an add on and currently nobody else is either. Logitech is not one for making addon's for gaming consoles without the consent of the console owner anyways. It's just a fan boy wish is all.

Cheers,

If this was as modifiable as the Phat PSP it would be a sure thing, that was always in the back of my mind "Has Sony finally given in the modding community?" turns out -no. all the features scream custom firmware and emulators but alas...

to sdf_gr. They released psp go because physical psp media frankly does not sell. They sell so few units in fact that most retail store do not carry many games at all, as few as 8-10 titles in stores as big as wal mart. The psp go allows the small niche market that is psp gamers to easily aquire the games they want via download without having to hunt for thier particular game. As well as it allows sony to have a large "virtual storefront" rather than paying retailers to continue allocating space to a dying system which is what they have had to do to keep stores stocking thier games.

The missing UMD isnt the issue here, the Price is the issue,
PSPGo is just 50euros cheaper than the PS3 and 90euros more expensive than PSP-3000 and xbox360.

That's pretty much it. That and the case that you can't sell/trade a game after you're done playing it. It was a unit with good intentions (try to take some business away from iPhone) But it fails at being either a good PSP or bad iPhone knock off.

Your right its not neccesarily a consumer centric change, its a logistics centric change. But really when it comes down to it... if you want to play psp games, and you want a decent selection, thats its main selling point.
