Windows 7 surpasses Windows XP in share, in U.S. According to the latest StatCounter analytics, Windows 7 has finally surpassed the aging Windows XP in American usage share.
As of April 11th, Windows 7's share is 32.2 percent compared to XP's 30.2 percent share.

Microsoft announced in January that it had sold 300 million Windows 7 licenses and that the operating system was the fastest-selling in the company's history.

The company's failed Vista platform fell to 19.5 percent while Mac OS X (all iterations) moved up to 14.8 percent.

When moving the numbers internationally, XP is still the champ, at 46.8 percent, followed by Windows 7 at 31.5 percent.

Windows 7 is just like Vista rehashed. Full of gimmicks and fancy tricks. Aero Snap? There's a far better version in XP called Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically that isn't limited to arranging just two windows but any number you select. There are many good useful features of XP removed and broken in Windows 7. The file manager, Windows Explorer was utterly destroyed in Vista and becomes worse in Windows 7. Poor usability. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_7 and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_Vista . Unnecessary GUI changes. Vista was innonative but horrible usability wise and removed things. Windows 7 is Vista with few new features and again many features removed and fancy gimmicks and shiny graphics added.

Windows & manufacturers are such A-holes, "forcing" Windows+trialware bundles on laptops & netbooks.

all I can do is buy the best specs & build quality, Borg it to Linux :)

at least I can still buy barebones desktop systems, or build from components.

cheers!

There's a neat fix for some of the annoyances of 7 (and Vista). It's called classic shell and I use it. link

Yes I know because I'm involved in its development. Does that mean it's okay for Microsoft to just rip stuff apart from their OS assuming third parties fix it?
