Call of Duty retail sales down 27%

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare may be the best selling game of 2014, but its sales are down compared to last year's retail sales of Call of Duty: Ghosts.
This represents a third straight year that Call of Duty sales have declined year-over-year in the United States. The data comes from Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson, citing research from the NPD Group.

"This is disappointing data following first week Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare sales showing a year-over-year increase," Olson said, reports GI.biz.

"NPD data does not include digital copies or international sales, which, if included, would lessen the year-over-year decline, but we believe this data suggests potential for Q4 revenue upside is now very low."

Activision's total sales have decreased by 22 percent year-over-year.

Comparing Advanced Warfare's first month to Modern Warfare 3, released in 2011, U.S. sales have declined by 49 percent during the first month of availability on the market.

They should have a revisit to COD 2 to see what made the franchise.
The latest COD is too intimidating for beginner players and the only sales you're currently getting are existing players.

THis is because the COD franchise pumps out crap! Same maps, same playability, same SIZE maps, same everything except environment/graphics.

Get your sh*t together EA and make COD more like BF! This is not surprising as my guess is people are showing boredom of the same ol same ol.

There is a whole new generation playing COD these days; I would venture a guess that many if not most never had the pleasure of playing the first two installments (The best, IMO). They need to get back to their roots, or at east split it off into two different games. Drop the Call of Duty moniker next time, and just call it Advanced Warfare II, and make Call of Duty a history-based series. There are so many possibilities with this option...why not Call of Duty: WWI? Or Call of Duty: Korea?

Why would EA make a game more like BF4? EA should make something distinctly theirs. EA's current solution clearly isnt working but cloning BF is only going to drive players to the real BF experience. I dont know what should be done but I do agree with most of you that they should return to COD's roots

I cant stand the new games they put out way to much needless swearing for a game.I wont let my kids play it nor am I gonna buy into it.

Haha.

You're telling EA to get their sh*t together and make CoD more like BF?

Way to go, champ. If you're going to rant about something, at least put some effort in to knowing what you're ranting about.

Activision is the publisher, not EA.

+1

Yeah, its repetitive. Like someone said before this game puts out recycled maps from older versions of the series and if you add the price tag of the game plus the map packs its a hundred dollar p.o.s. My buddy got advanced warfare and I went over to play and got extremely tired because it is the same. Ooh big deal, I can jump high... But since COD sucks now it has helped turn me on to playing other games. I got need for speed and will probably get the crew and I might like it a little more than COD because it's so much different. Plus people are still on the black ops1 so if I really need a first person shooter I can travel back in time with the old games. Or just play BF4

They keep barfing out the same game type of styles and maps.

I hate COD Advanced Warfare and the futuristic feel and extra high jumping capability sucks and so does all of the guns (even the smoke is useless and covers nothing). This is by far the worst COD game ever and I started playing COD Modern Warfare 2 and each year it sucks more.

I don't know why I buy this game, I definitely no longer buy the map packs because it's too expensive and I remember the days when they gave 1 free map back in the COD days once in a while. If the next COD series game is anything like the current Advanced Warfare, I don't plan to purchase this game nor play it.

I remember when PC players got all the maps for free, also for a game that's in the future....there still hanging on to brass bullets pretty hard.....I'm pretty sure Capt.Price's WW2 Jeep was in there too. not to mention that guy is in serous need of a promotion.

The high prices don't help.
Hell, even old ones like Black Ops are still selling for 30 bucks on Steam.
