Just days after the rumor hit the Internet, Nintendo has denied that there are any plans for a launch of a new redesigned DS Lite at this year's upcoming E3 event.
The rumor and speculation began when Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura made comments that suggested Nintendo was ready to headline E3 with a new hardware revision to its very popular DS handheld.
"We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won't be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so [we] would like to clearly deny this," said Nintendo Japan's head of PR.
"We're having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this."
Hamamura suggested, citing past moves by Nintendo, that a new hardware revision is in the works because the company does such revisions every two years. The Nintendo DS Lite was launched two years ago, in 2006.

Nintendo DS LITE came out in 2006...Nintendo DS has been out since Q4 2004...and I HIGHLY doubt that Nintendo will go for a long series of repetitive names, like the GameBoy series...or as I've said before the freaking lame Sony line, Playstation 1,2,3,...and so on until 100...I truly doubt they'll have a Nintendo DS [something else] ... They'll probably name it Nintendo HandyGame...or Nintendo WiiWii...lol...I dont know what the hell they'll name it, but it wont be a DS...they made nough damage with the 10+ year line of GameBoys...so yeah...I know fanboys will come to flame any time now...aaany time now....*waits for fanboys to start posting stupid posts flammin Nintendo and my comment*

well i think if they keep it duo-screen they'll keep it as a DS sumthing. I however like the PS1,2,3 yet its up to everyones own opinion. sum ppl like xbox360..i dunno how MS came up with the 360 number..it doesnt seem to make things go around in circles lol but hey, most ppl didnt like the name nintendo wii..but ppl like it now..remember before ppl were like 'man nintendo revolution sounds cooler'..now it just doesnt matter lol

Well, the PS series naming is probably more to keep brand loyalists coming than anything. Plus its easy to do :P
The "360" has to do with a vision, good or bad, of having a all-in-one gaming console that is more "complete" in that it entertains by more than just gaming compared to others if I remember correctly.
Nintendo's choice of codename "Revolution" was simply brilliant. I am not sure where the "Wii" name came from but it is truly a "Revolution" in the gaming field.
The DS naming obviously came from it being "Dual-Screen" along with the "Lite" variation. I hope if Nintendo decides to make another DS that its the last in that naming scheme.
On the Wii subject, other than the Game Boy series and the NES/SNES consoles, no Nintendo system has "carried" the name of a previous console so they will probably come up with a new name for their next-gen console.
Peace

i can care less what the name was going to be or what names will be. i mean, everyone adjusts to what its called. i remember when nintendo came out with their handheld, i was like "WTF?! gameboy?!" but none of that matters anymore.
just like ipods, ipods gen 1, gen 2, gen 3 ect. i mean theyre just names for successors, nothing more.

I dont think they are moving any time soon, they know what they have, they are the only ones realizing that at some point all competition will have to see that better graphics will have to stop counting they have for me since ps2 and dreamcast, the only thing that matters to me is how much some of the new consoles BORE ME!, i'm not saying they are not good for many people but for me they just dont seem innovative enough

Wii - WiF i
DS - Developers System, not dual screen
360 - accurate
PS3 - Sony just needs to be more creative with names, console is great though.
Yeah I didn't expect there to really be an upgrade. I also doubt there will be a new system for at least another two years because the huge momentum the DS has. There is no clear reason to kill it now.

Wii is Japanese for "everyone"
and since the wii was aimed at all age groups... well thats why its called that lol
360 is because its ment to be complete (so gaming, films, music etc)
and ps3 is because all the other ps systems have been so successful that they might as well try there luck again

complete in what way? the media aspect is so locked up you have to be a enthusiasts enthusiast to dck with it, BWC is a fcking joke not even being universal each region has to have its own special upgrade and don't even get me started on the locked data to keep you from moving all your data off the 360 HDD.

are we debating which one represented better the meaning of their names??, then if Wii means everybody, no other console fails to hol dup its name than this, since not everybody can have one, specially since they are out of stock, so from your point of view they should have called it Out of stock and that would have been more apropiate :p

Wii is definitely not Japanese for "everyone", you can hardly write that in Japanese! (And by "that" I mean "Wii") "Everyone" is normally called "minna".

Nintendo doesn't want to screw with the DS as the moment, it is selling faster than the Wii is and the only reason they are able to keep it on the shelves is because it is so easy to make.
