SCEE bringing 160GB PS3 model to Europe

21 August 2008 3:19 by James "Dela" Delahunty | 14 comments

SCEE bringing 160GB PS3 model to Europe Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced a 160GB PlayStation 3 (PS3) model, which will launch in the PAL markets on 31st October for a RRP of €449. The console will be bundled with extra PlayStation Network content. The 160GB drive offers more than twice the capacity that current models are sold with.

For those looking to use a PS3 console as a home media center hub, extra storage capacity is important for large amounts of digital content. It allows for increased video, music, and photo storage as well as room to download even more games, game extras, playable demos, and trailers from PSN.

Lower prices and a better game line-up has helped to push the PlayStation 3 (PS3) further along in the console war between Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. The three are looking to sell the most hardware units and take the biggest chunk out of the multi-billion games market.

big wow..untill i see some price cuts PS3 is out of my list...with the lowest amount of games availible for the console and with quite a bit of the already low amount availible on the other consoles its not worth the 450 euros in my opinion..

They need help even as a media center the ps3 still is to expensive.

Considering i can purchase a 160 gig hard drive for 100.00 i look at this as they are still charging you for the hard drive..

    Lame

Microsoft doesn't charge you for the hard drive in fact they sell consoles without a hard drive to cut costs and make the console availible for everyone to bad sony cannot say that.

I hope they allow more than a tiny 10 gig for different operating systems. It would be great to have more room for linux apps.

BUT U CAN'T BEAT THE FACT THAT IT COMES WITH A BLURAY PLAYER. I USE MINE AS A MEDIA CENTER ALL THE TIME MUSIC, PICS, MOVIES AND INTERNET. IF YOU WERE TO SETUP UR OWN MEDIA CENTER U'D HAVE TO EITHER MOVE UR COMP FROM THE "OFFICE" INTO THE LIVING ROOM OR BUY A WHOLE NEW COMP.

none of the consoles are media centres as they can only render a very limited number of formats that a pc can.

try looking over at video jug with your ps3 and that's just a flash extension.

Do you know that you can purchase a media device for under £100 that will stream all your formats to any device in your home don't you, and they will actually work unlike your ps3 _media_ sry i mean limited playback to trusted formats only device!!!

Funny, with Tversity A FREE DOWNLOAD you can view just about any format from OGG to MKv, FLV etc. on a PS3 & Xbox 360...works for me just fine. This doesn't include the standard out of the box media server option within the PS3 that gets updates to increase compatibility with more formats. Plus with the upcoming Vidzone release there are talks that the PS3 will have FULL flash support as Vidzone uses that format.
