New DVD2One and DVD2OneX versions released

18 June 2003 7:24 by Petteri "dRD" Pyyny | 1 comment

One of the most popular compressed-domain transcoding tool at the moment is probably the DVD2One. It is also the only (AFAIK) tool that's also available for Mac OSX. What the heck are compressed-domain transcoding tools? To put it simply, in this instance they mean just blazingly fast compression tools that allow you to shrink a DVD-9 movie into one DVD-R (or DVD+R, DVD-RW or DVD+RW).

The new version for Windows is called DVD2One v1.2.0 and its changelog since the last version is here:
  • New engine with constant compression ratio for better image quality in long movies (2 1/2 hours and more)
  • Pre-scanning of files for better estimation of destination size in Full Disk Copy mode
  • Detection of encrypted data is now restricted to the data DVD2one actually uses
  • Removal of unused padding data in the videostream
  • Japanese translation added for all honoured Japanese customers

You can download the latest Windows version of DVD2One from here and to discuss about it and other similiar tools in our discussion forums.

The new version for Mac OSX is called DVD2OneX v1.1.0 and its changelog is here:
  • Same new engine features as DVD2one V1.2.0 (the Windows version).
  • Localized version supporing 5 languages: English, Dutch, German, Italian and French.
  • Online help inclusive freeware help.
  • Check if source comes from a (protected) DVD-ROM.
  • Check if destination is not a DVD-R, not writeprotected and has enough free space.
  • Sheets are Aqua now, this is conform the Apple User Interface Guidelines.
  • Added selection checkboxes to the Audio and Subtitle lists.
  • Saves the state of the popup buttons (Output, Copymode and Compression mode).
  • Fixed progress window bug while DVD2oneX is docked or hidden, and processing is finished.
  • Fixed usage of pathnames (source and destination) with special characters.

You can download the DVD2OneX v1.1.0 for Mac OSX from here.

CloneDVD by Elby came out too. I tried it out and got very good quality. It will be nice to compare these too. Haven't tested dvd2one 1.2 yet but we'll see how they turn out.
