They aren't taking pre-orders, because Nintendo hasn't confirmed quanitities to individual retailers. It's good, because I don't want to place an order, and have a shortage. There are few things on earth that frustrating.

I'd rather KNOW that the quantities will be available.

Scroll down a little bit and watch the video of the press conference. Theres some really cool stuff they show off, looks like it has lots of potential.

The only bad news (i think) is that an extra "wii-mote" costs $39.99, and an extra "nunchaku" controller is $19.99. Thats $60 for one complete controller. Yikes.

What are you having trouble with DVDBack23?

The way the price will be a rip-off here in the UK (and nothing remotely like a straight conversion of the US $ rate announced) or the idiotic name?
And what fanboy are you, xbox or ps? lol

release the fan boy within *L*

I am kidding, most have already set the price for the UK do you see this differently?

In all 250 and 50 a game are nice price sets.

I wonder if nintendo will give up on DVI in acouple years and make the new version without DVI or something like they just started doing to the GC 0-o

I think Nintendo is a bit short sighted with skiping High def outputs.....

    Ah yes DVDBack23, silly me.

Imagine anyone looking at any of this stuff beyond the usual single dimension of 'fan-boy-ism'.

you and handsom have to water down uurrrr writing skills a bit you guys are just to smart for most people here to understand you are soughing at the tech/abilities of the console not being a "fanboy" ^^

well, put some facts down then...im not a fanboy of any system but i dont see how a system that 50% the price of the competitors and is very innovative is a "rip off". So what it doesnt have HD-DVD or blueray...

As I said I believe he's bitch about the price scheme the UK has, gaming has been uping the UKs inflation and it might go up another 10-20% or so becue of it.
at least thats wht I think hes talking about.

As for me the 360 is a Frankenstein poorly put togather a horried launch I got pissed and got a Xbox becuse it was so badly done in a year the system will be OK but not worth more than 200 for the "whole" system.

The PS3 has more potential than the 360 but they are having a rough time right now with alot of things and its not even launched yet,and the price is 200 more than I a willing to pay for the whole thing,Sony's arrogance is showing again unlike the 360 whitch I can forget for a year or 2 then come back to the PS3 is something I want to keep an eye on.

Wii is not perfect but compared to the other systems it is perfect 0-o

I might loath the Blade moives for being trendy tripe but I only hate the 360 2 main reasons 1 full BWC do they not understand they have a hge library of Xbox games they could float the system on while they get the 360 games out..I guess not they preferred everything but a great launch..

the other reason I hate the 360 is games because of no full BWC you get a handful of mediocre and worse games because they rushed....so I would rather spend 120$ on a Xbox and 6 games 1 pad,1 mem 1 ,light gun than waste 400 more on a system I would not be happy with.

Aaaah, ok, I get you now. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Zippy is 100% on the money.

My original comments were intended as a complaint against what will be the $ translation into British £.
It's almost inevitable (and certainly pretty usual) that the price will be a gross inflation compared to what the other big markets get charged (that was what I meant by a straight US $ conversion).

As for my "idiots" comment that was a passing remark about what I consider to be the really dumb name Nintendo have given this 'system'.

In most of the English-speaking countries I know of a wii (or wee) is a fairly polite slang name for piss.

As in 'having a wee' or 'going for a wee' or 'need to have a wee' etc etc.

I was most certainly not calling you DVDBack23 or anyone else an idiot.

understood hugh, i never took ur comment directed at me ;)

I dont know about inflated prices in UK, but IMO the price is very reasonable in USD.

Yes the name does sound funny, but you have to figure it means something in japanese, lol :)

    It's a strange thing.

If they were to just sell them at or very close to the US price here (approx £120) they'd clean up.

But at £170 - 180 I dunno, I think a lot of the older buyers who might have bought one will be looking elsewhere at that price.

I am hoping Ghost rider will be good..but.....its hollywood I dout *L*

Actually WII is WE as in US as in all gamers.
thats the gimmik they went for.

    Yeah, agree.
Revolution was a far smarter name.

Bit like the megadrive was, IIRC, originally to be called Genesis.

Probably another copyright issue with someone else using the name first or planning to.
DVDBack23 (Staff Member) 15 September 2006 15:24 Send private message to this user
It was the Sega Genesis, not megadrive, here in the US ;)

Sounds like your average console with wifi technology. For me being in OZ I'll just wait till akk the latest consoles are going to be out and then wait even another month to make sure there are no call backs due to bugs and etc...

Its amazing how far console gaming has come since the 80's. :)
handsom (Senior Member) 20 September 2006 14:05 Send private message to this user
The megadrive and the genesis were two completely different systems, both were launched in the US, Megadrive first, then Genesis.

And thusfar, while I own a 360, I do plan to get a Wii.

The title's meaning though, I can shed some light on that.

WII is the japanese name for a constellation, which has some association with happiness or joy. And the "ii" is a symbol for happiness, hence forth, the title is to symbolize happiness and joy. It is a brilliant title for Japan, and a somewhat unfortunate incident that they didn't give a different title elsewhere, as they have with their past systems. Although, truthfully, it is a 'happy' name, which is apparently what they were going for... Even if it is slightly stupid.

Will the PS3 dominate the console market?
Maybe, if Sony lowers the price and stops lowering the hardware specs.

I'm sure you can find a few easy japanese translation sites. Also, if you check ebay, there is a flash card game/book series to teach you kanji, and some of the other basic forms of japanese very quickly, starting with the USEFUL basic dialogue. "I'm sorry sir, for I have farted cheese into your mullet." is not useful, and seems to be about the level most these tools use, I'll have to see if I can find them for you, they are GREAT resources that help FAST.

Once you get down the USEFUL basics, filling in the rest becomes second nature, and you'll learn quickly, I started doing this while going through a certain anime series that just hit the US a few months ago.... I don't like to wait.
