Home Burglary is Holidaymakers' Main Concern

LONDON, September 26 /PRNewswire/ -- When it comes to leaving our homes and going on holiday, British people
have a list of worries, with concerns about our homes being burgled at the
top of the list, according to new Ipos MORI research.

The survey, commissioned by electrical accessories company SMJ
Electrical, asked people what worried them most when they were away on
holiday and found that a staggering 56 per cent of the Great British public
are concerned that their home might be burgled, whilst away on holiday. And
with 31 per cent of those claiming to be 'extremely concerned', it is clearly
the main source of anxiety. Next on our list of worries is whether the car
will be safe, with 39 per cent admitting concern, followed by 38 per cent of
pet owners claiming to be concerned about (their) pets' welfare whilst away.
Other concerns are whether there are unpaid bills (20 per cent) as well as
gas leakages and burst water pipes (20 per cent). And for those who think
'soaps' are addictive, the survey is reassuring, with only 9 per cent
concerned about missing episodes of their favourite soap.

According to SMJ Electrical, which has a wide range of easy to install
electrical products aimed at improving home security, concerns about being
burgled has resulted in an increase in demand for more home security
products.

Julie Hynd, Marketing Director of SMJ Electrical, explains: "We're seeing
demand for our home security products steadily growing. The Ipsos MORI
research highlights the fact that when people go on holiday, their main worry
is about being burgled. But if the house appears inhabited - with timed
lighting for example - homeowners may feel safer have a better chance of
relaxing and enjoying their holiday with less worries."

Research was carried out via Ipsos MORI's online omnibus, interviewing
1,003 respondents aged 16-64.
