Hubert Burda Media Continues Expansion
MUNICH, Germany, June 26 /PRNewswire/ --
- International Publishing Business and Internet as Main Growth Drivers
Dr. Jürgen Todenhöfer, Vice-Chairman of the Management Board of
Hubert Burda Media and Board Member Publishing, Finance & Administration, as
well as Dr. Paul-Bernhard Kallen, Board Member Technology & Treasury, issued
the following statement about the business year 2006 at the Annual Media Day
on 25 June 2007:
2006 was once again a very successful year for Hubert Burda
Media. The operating performance rose by 4.3 per cent to EUR 2.15 billion
while external sales increased by 5.1 per cent to EUR 1.6 billion. The
operating result remained stable.
Since the partition of estate twenty years ago, when Dr. Hubert
Burda took over sole management of the publishing houses and printing plants,
the group's turnover has more than tripled. The major German publishing
houses reported an increase of about 130 per cent over the same time period.
The considerable increase in the business year 2006 was achieved
thanks to continued consolidation in the declining printing business and the
slow-growing domestic magazine market as well as to the actively pursued
expansion strategy for the growth markets internet and foreign magazines.
With a rise of 32.4 per cent to EUR 230.7 million, the main growth driver was
once again the digital division. Foreign operations improved by 12.6 per cent
to EUR 336.1 million.
The share of digital activities and dialog marketing in external
sales soared from 8.9 per cent in 2000 to 24.2 per cent in 2006. The
contribution of these divisions to group turnover is expected to double to
about 50 per cent within the next six years.
Hubert Burda Media is optimistic about the future. In 2007, the
company has been off to a good start. Magazines continue to make a strong
contribution to turnover and overall result. They are the core of Hubert
Burda Media and will be a mainstay of sales in the future as well. At the
same time, the company will continue its strategic investment in internet
projects, dialog marketing and international publishing companies. For 2007,
we expect further strong growth in group turnover and solid earnings.
