MUNICH, Germany, October 24 /PRNewswire/ -- It sounds like the success story of Bill Gates - in this case, however,
it was the Linux penguin that inspired a young team to further develop WLAN
technology. Their work marked the beginning of a rapid development that
appears to have no limits. The project, currently being developed by Steffen
Dreise, CEO of Saxnet GmbH, is one of unimagined possibilities.
The Saxnet product is called Meshnode III, a Linux-based WLAN router that
features a full, x86-based PC system inside a compact housing. It is equipped
with four radio modules, with a maximum transmission power of 600 MW each,
and runs on a 500MHz AMD x86 chip processor. Further advantages are its
above-average coverage and the option of connecting an even higher number of
client devices. Utilizing OSI Layer 2-based, self-organizing 4 module mesh
technology, the router guarantees a network of the highest stability.
Meshnode III provides customers with the ideal basic network to be used
with any Wireless LAN device, such as notebooks, surveillance cameras and
VoIP phones. A compartment for optional applications allows the installation
of client-specific hardware. By using the two memory cards with a maximum of
16 GB per module, one can choose from the over 19,000 Linux software packages
currently available. Designed for use under extreme environmental conditions,
the router meets the highest protection class, IP69K, and has an intelligent
heating and cooling system that compensates for temperatures from minus 40 to
plus 70 degrees Celsius.
Meshnode III offers a virtually unlimited range of possible applications
in the manufacturing industry, from receiving goods and production control to
storage and delivery systems. Enabling fast internet even without DSL,
Meshnode III makes it possible to quickly create networks in areas lacking
infrastructure - even under the harshest environmental conditions.
Last, but not least, Meshnode III enables rescue workers to immediately
establish a local network in case of emergencies. Rescue services can connect
with each other and to the internet with only one satellite connection.
