Multi-Tech Shipping Isolated Ethernet Embedded Device Server

MINNEAPOLIS, December 16 /PRNewswire/ --

- SocketEthernet IP Meets EN 60601-1 Requirements for Medical Equipment
Safety

Multi-Tech(R) Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and
telecommunications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis, is now
shipping a new member of its embedded Universal Socket Connectivity family
for industrial and medical device solutions. The new SocketEthernet IP(R)
Serial-to-Ethernet Device Server provides a high electrically isolated model
of the company's serial-to-Ethernet series that meets the requirements of the
EN 60601-1 standard for medical electrical equipment safety. The new model
integrates a complete TCP/IP protocol stack and serial-to-Ethernet interface
into a very space-efficient component for medical designs. The SocketEthernet
IP device server connects serial devices to an IP network and is ideal for
applications such as patient monitoring plus network control and
configuration.

"EN 60601-1 compliance is a very important aspect of the safety and
performance criteria for medical equipment designs," states Bill Chesney,
Vice President of Sales for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "And, by using EN
60601-1 approved components, designers save both time and resources by not
having to seek separate approvals. It is also part of Multi-Tech's larger
family of embedded solutions that integrate connectivity into a single
Universal Socket Connectivity design."

Designed to provide sufficient electrical isolation between the Ethernet
and serial interface for medical applications, the MT100SEM-L-HV
SocketEthernet IP Device Server is a space-efficient module (1-inch x
2.5-inch) that integrates a complete TCP/IP protocol stack and a
serial-to-Ethernet interface into a single universal socket design.
