Verizon Wireless confirms iPhone rumors

Verizon Wireless confirms iPhone rumors Verizon Wireless has just confirmed that rumors of it getting Apple's iPhone this time around are true.
Apple Inc.'s iPhone 4 will be available next month, confirmed at a press event today by Verizon President and Chief Operating Officer, Lowell McAdam. "Our relationship with Apple has developed over the last two years. In 2008 we started talking about bringing the iPhone to a CDMA network. We spent a year testing," McAdam said.

"We are extremely gratified to announce that the iPhone 4 will be available early next month."

He was joined on stage by Apple's Tim Cook who spent some time talking up the iPhone's global success, and then got onto the Verizon iPhone. "We're incredibly pleased to give Verizon's customers the choice we've been waiting for. We've designed an iPhone 4 which connects to the CDMA network, and it has all the features that you'd expect," Cook said.

iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless will also include new Personal Hotspot capabilities allowing customers to use iPhone 4 to connect up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices.

"Verizon Wireless customers have told us they can't wait to get their hands on iPhone 4, and we think they are going to love it," Cook said. "We have enormous respect for the company Verizon has built and the loyalty they have earned from their customers."

Existing Verizon Wireless customers will get a chance to pre-order an iPhone handset on February 3. It will be available on the Verizon Wireless network beginning Thursday, February 10 for a suggested retail price of $199.99 for the 16GB model and $299.99 for the 32GB model with a new two year customer agreement.

In a Q&A session, Tim Cook said that the company did not go down the LTE route with the iPhone on Verizon because Verizon customers has been demanding an iPhone model be made available now. It was also revealed that the CDMA iPhone is not exclusive to Verizon.

People think that this will just push Verizon over the top and drive all others out of business. NOT

SOOOOOO many could care less about the IPhone and its bullsh*t intrusive, yet necessary ITunes software for PC connection and more apparent............people aren't going to just break their contracts with other companies, pay 175.00-225.00 bucks and switch to Verizon. Nor will Verizon customers flock in masses to the IPhone and ditch phones they just bought or take a 200 dollar loss on an upgrade they recently did.

There are people whom are fans of Dell, Sony, Verizon and at&t but none are more mindless "fanboys" like those of Apple owners/users.

I would NEVER let an Apple owner get behind the big red button that decides the fate of us all.

With the iPhone and Droid lineup on the same carrier, it's going to be interesting to see which device users really prefer.

As a current iPhone user I will find it funny to see how many people that have always bashed it that suddenly have a change of heart, and miraculously like the iPhone.

Meh, those that want an iPhone can have it but I'll gladly keep my open source Droid.

Exactly what I was thinking! Dear AD staff please make an Android app. Would love to be able to get info updates and comment from an app. Don't really have anything against an iPhone but I need my keyboard and I'm not an apple fan.

Not trying to offend, but I know a lot of people that say these things that I think will suddenly be sporting a shiny new iPhone. It'll be interesting. And if you guys are not that type… your not telling me there are not plenty people out there. Gives me a good laugh that's all.

I never said "No one wants a Verizon-compatible iPhone"; I don't want one but there surely are lots of people that do. I also never said there wasn't a demand for a Verizon iPhone because there obviously is a demand for it.

I wonder if it will work well now...I know that AT&T cripples their droid phones terribly...not sure if that is just to make the iPhone look better, or if they just do that on all their devices.

Maybe they will tweak and trim it so it is as fast as a 1-year-old droid. Sure, there is no flash, cheap glass, the deathgrip problem, and lots of other issues, but hey...at least the CPU is only a little outdated by the standards of this time last year.

Clearly you're an Apple backer through and through and no doubt unable to concede to any flaws of their products.

FYI, Engadget did a 60,000+ person poll and 41,000 of them simply chose the option of "no, not going to get the Iphone" where 21,000 said "waiting until the IPhone 5 comes out". Clearly most people DON'T prefer or long for an IPhone.

I hate Apple lovers with their 'holier than thou' attitude about the products. Fooooey

The Poll

Try and stop me! I'm abandoning all old contracts and jumping on board. 10214 (10.9%)

I'll wait for my current deal to expire before upgrading. 6653 (7.1%)

Verizon's LTE-enabled phones are more appealing, so the answer's "no" until it gets 4G. 12137 (12.9%)

I'll wait for the iPhone 5 before pulling the trigger. 19280 (20.5%)

If I were to get the iPhone 4, it'd be on AT&T's network. 4491 (4.8%)

Nope. 41214 (43.8%)

Well i cant say i might not go back to an iphone from a droid. I loved my iphone previously but just wasnot too thrilled on att's 3G coverage. Spotty as hell. Now you have 3G, Now you dont! Better not leave out of the city b/c you have a 100 mile gap between 3G coverage areas. Yeah right. I am not going to pay out of my contract early to get an iphone and my droid has done everything that my iphone could and maybe some more but still iphone OS is the most user friendly there is and still honestly the best for music and media. Android OS is a lot more flexible and open but iphone OS is just user friendly, looks better and is more appealing. Unless i see a lot of things that the iphone can not do that the droid line up can its still a great phone. Not sure but iphone maybe an option in the future, especially on verizons 3G network. Wish iphone had HDMI, and expandable memory. Droid or iphone??? You cant really go wrong.

Not me....I've never owned an Apple product in my life, and never will. Their business practices and lock-down of their software have always driven me away from them, and always will.
