Wii modchips won't work on recent Wiis

Written by Matti Robinson @ 06 Feb 2007 10:35 User comments (20)

Wii modchips won't work on recent Wiis The first three Wii modchips were proving Wii to be an easy task to mod, until recently Nintendo made a manufacturing modification and added D2B Panasonic chipset to Wiis. Now all the first generation modchips - Wiinja, CycloWiz and WiiKey - fail to bypass the D2B chipset.
While the first-gen modchips work like a charm in the earlier Wiis, if you have bought a Wii in January or February you should make sure what Wii you are running, before buying a useless modchip. The only way to be sure is to open the Wii and search for a chip with a GC2-D2B label.

According to Engadget, Both the CycloWiz and Wiinja teams are working on new version of modchips to get past the D2B Panasonic chipset.

funny but i knew this was going to happen the german video from youtube talking about the wii security already mentioned nearly 2 months ago that the wii is changed in every version by nintendo same with all wii games so that it is harder to hack the wii

LMAO I just found out bout Wii Modchips like 5 hrs ago and I'm thinkin WOW Friday im gonna go get me one and mod it. And not a couple of hours ago I saw this posted this up on one of the modchip's homepage. Oh well they'll think of something. LMAO this close to getting one....phew. Dodged that bullet

it doesn't take long when they get past the new chip. Nintendo will always putting new stuff to the console that stops old modchips to work.
But I wont buy a wii before I get a chip in/with it.

Its funny, cause is not like im against modchips or nothing, but people is always saying that big companies deserve to be messed with since they dont care about the gammers, and many people backup moding and pirating material because of this matter, since the wii is only 250 bucks, PS3 is 600 and 360 is 400 dollars, also games for wii are $50, and ps3 and 360 are $60, looks to me that wii is making all of the people desires, but still they want to hack it, i mean, theres nothing wrong in hacking it so you get the most of youre console, the problem and lets face it, is what all the people out there is going to use this hacks, to pirate Nintendo, wich looks to me like its making a big effort to provide cheap, quality enterteinment, not attacking anyone, just my 2cents

thats funny everyone was talking about how fast it got hacked and just look at how fast Nintendo solved the problem! well for now at least.

uhmm, nintendo isnt offering it for the consumer. they all just want to make money, and nintendo cant compete with the same market so they had to create a new one. Plus, if you havent read already ps3's are losing money for each console they sell which means they cost more than 600 to build and wii is making money for each wii which means the wii cost less than 250 to build.

nintendo is charging more than ps3 is, in terms of taxing the consumer. They arent an "ethical" and "friendly" company as many people might think. Thats all image that marketing has built up. Nintendo is going after money exactly as much as microsoft or sony.

Oh so they should just sell their console at a loss just because their competition does? I think they did what they are supposed to. Make a good console, make it affordable, and make money.

No one is saying that they are "GIVING" anything away. All I see is a company that seems to genuinely care about its customers and and does everything in their power to provide their customers with quality products at a reasonable price.

i have an "older" wii, so no prob for me

Ok the entire point of being able to hack it is pretty much pushing the console to its limit. We all want to see what we can do with it. Look at the original xbox. People are able to make a personal computer out of it. Microsoft just wanted us to play games, connect with media center on win xp, and watch movies. We can browse the internet, store our valuable games on it, and various other tasks that are sometimes stupid but fun. Sure I admit piracy is on the minds of most people. But c'mon sales are always up of any product that is worth buying. Halo 2, yea I know someone who got a copy ahead of time *cough, cough* but bought the game. I want to be able to purchase a wii game and put the original aside which i spent my hard earned money on and possibly play the game on an hd which would keep it safe and play faster. We have to buy the console.......we cant get it any other way. In short, video game developers such as nintendo arent being totally screwed out of cash by piracy. They still have us by the balls when buying the console...excuse my metaphor. But hey, we sever that hand when we begin to customize and fully exploit the hardware we bought. But nintendo says no....dont mess with it cuse we want to be able to add this stuff later and charge you. Theres my 2cents and some extra change go buy a soda.

Theres no excuse whatsoever to support piracy, It is stealing however you want to loke at it, and im not talking about torrent sites nor p2p, Im talking about people going on the streets making a big profit out of something they didnt even paid for an original copy and then copied it, but even something they just grabbed from this p2p's or torrents.

And they have you grabbed by the balls in buying a console???
What? cant u avoid Buying one?
Do You must buy every single console?
as i see it, no body has me grabed from the balls, I still choose whoever i buy from, and not because theyre the coolest in shelves, maybe i shoul decide for my self if a company is interested in giving me a memorable experience, or just grabbing my money

118.2.2007 11:46

If you want the damn console ur gonna buy it from where ever but the money is gonna go back to the company either way. If you dont want to buy it fine go do your lil hobby of putting together model airplanes. If you want the next gen console thats where ur screwed, you have to buy it if you want it. Oh and let me tell you i dont support the kind of piracy where people, other than the company, are making a profit off of it. But bootleggers have been around since the cassette tape era. That is what I find completely unacceptable.

Oh yea I wanted to as Gradical something....how many consoles do you have? Well I have 8 consoles and everyone I WANTED TO BUY. If you want to play the new games YOU HAVE TO BUY THE NEW CONSOLE. If you dont want to play the latest games dont get the new console but to those of us who want the latest and greatest graphics and game play we are forced to get the console. We all have a decisicon to either buy it or not. If you want to go play hopstoch be my guest. But if you want the newest stuff....they have you by the balls.

128.2.2007 19:03

Wow!!! they really got you grabed by the balls dont they!?

again, as i said, youve fallen into marketing once again. Nintendo's customer service is not known for being any better than Sony or Microsoft's game console support. It is assumed because Nintendo seems like it's "for the consumer". But they arent soley for the consumer, they create a product that they think there is a demand for. Everyone is selling their product at a reasonable price. If it wasnt reasonable, then there would be no demand. Sony's and 360's are actually more reasonable because they are a better deal since we are getting something at a discount, compared to the Wii's premium. That is all objectively speaking. Im not saying i dont like nintendo, i do like them, and i think they are extremely smart for taking their unique marketing strategy, and market penetration strategy. BUT, people give them too much credit, and assume too much from them. They are just a company after all, they didnt make this decision to help the consumer. If the market was better in the high end, and sony and ps3 were cheap consoles, nintendo would have offered something super expensive. They are just a company, not out to help the underdog, just a company trying to survive, and now thriving in a gaming market.

i like nintendo, and think they are smart, and will probably buy a wii myself. But its just kind of weird to see all these people falling so deeply into sides thinking nintendo is the friendly company for the consumer.

sorry about the late reply.. im not registered to this thread

I haven't fallen for anything. I have owned every Nintendo Console since the original NES and they have always had good customer service and take care of their customers.

I don't know where you get your logic from but it does not make sense to me. You think just because Nintendo was able to design a console that sells well and is appealing to the public and still make a profit it is a premium price. And since Sony and Microsoft sell their consoles at a loss it is a deal or discount. Thats gotta be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard.

1612.2.2007 08:40

obviously you dont know the defenition of discount and premium. ps3's are selling at a discount of their manufactured price, and wii's are selling at a premium. They are common business terms, but i figured they were pretty common household terms as well. So... objectively speaking, yes ps3 console is a better deal, but the games are going to be the exact opposite. If you still think thats the stupidest thing youve ever heard im just going to have to call you stupid

oh and yeah, ive also owned all the nintendo consiles, other than gamecube.

I know the definition of the terms, but to call the PS3 a "better deal" is what I am calling stupid.

hahahaha

I know youre right Im just and plain saying youre stupid
And im Not!

hahaha

i am all for piracy i have a moded ps2 and i download lots,i think we should get what we want at a reasonable price, and moded systems never play games perefctly.every once in a while the game will screw up and u get what u pay for,you deal with it,but sometimes when the game i wanna play is not working i wonder if it was still worth it in the end,and usually i fiure probably not,i got a crap load of games that i dont play just cuz i can, when i coulda just waited and bought the 3-4originals used and probably saved money.i will buy a wii just cuz its different than what i already have who care about the ps3 or xbox ,the graphics are wicked but all the games are the same, nothing really new.and its not our fault the system loses money, its not like they use good parts and they last forever my old ps2 cant even play a dvds anymore.the point is that the wii maybe making money and the others may be losing it,but if they finally make somthing that is affordable and people like it and they market it well, why not make money, companys are in business to make money, and if there was no competition at all ps3 would be more and they would be making money and for sure rippen you off.atleast nintendo is offering to get all the classics you ever wanted,on the system,no more need for crappy imatations or emulators of nintendo games you can get the real thing and an old school controller to boot,i think they are giving us every thing we did want ,and need,at a pretty fair price,if i wanna watch hd movies ill buy a real hd player, the friggen lazers in game systems are crap anyway-plus im gettin fat so a ps3 would just allow me to get fatter, and the wii will make me workin those times of lazyness between work, sex and sleepin.

I agree with the last guy 100%. Thoes "grate deals" you guys are talking about are just not true. At the speed these new consoles are pumped out is out ragious. My sold at a loss Xbox won't even play burned cd's beacuse the drive is crap. So whos dealing who here???
