Digital Playground goes dual format

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 20 Dec 2007 6:45 User comments (15)

Digital Playground goes dual format HD DVD-exclusive adult film distributor Digital Playground has announced that it will be going dual format, with its first Blu-ray release, "Pirates", coming in early January.
Early this year Digital Playground founder "Joone" made this quote, "Sony wants me to publish my films on HD DVD." His quote was in reference to the fact that all Blu-ray Disc copying facilities in the United States refused to accept his business. Although the BDA denied his accusations, Digital went HD DVD exclusive and has released almost a dozen films so far.

In explaining his company's move to dual-format support, Joone said "A lot of people were emailing that bought a PlayStation and they were basically saying, 'When are you guys going to release Blu-ray?'"

The company says the Blu-ray release will include the full-length film and tons of extras including bloopers, casting videos and behind-the-scenes footage. Yes, Blu-ray users can enjoy porn bloopers in full 1080p resolution.

Digital Playground also claims that they have 80 percent of the HD porn market and that HD releases now account for about 30 percent of all the publisher’s video shipments.

Makes you wonder if the people who are emailing are constantly "playing" by themselves?.....

Joone has change his tune since the last time he bashed Blu-Ray but its good to say he has come to his senses. There going to be more of this kind of news next month.Blu-Ray strong sales over HD-DVD has made corps open there eyes & see the clear choice to make.Either go format neutral or BD exclsive i think its safe to say that there not going to be any more HD-DVD exclsive deals in the near future.Unless Microsoft front more money.

Although I really don't see the point of HD porn its kind of funny to see it happening at a decent rate (30% is really good in my opinion). The "trojan-horse" tactic seems to work decently for Sony but the war still isn't over and who knows what Microsoft and its monopoly money may do for the HD DVD side of the battle.

Although I might just take the plunge before the end of the year into the high-def war, I will always stand by my words that I believe neither format will be "victorious". One may triumph over the other but I believe neither will triumph over vanilla DVD. I believe something else is going to have to take that torch, but I don't know what.

Peace

Couldn't agree with you more pop. I like my dvd's and I think with the way tech goes somethinmg better will be along shortly. Well at least we will haer about it but may never see it due to the conglomerates and their stifling (drm)attitudes.

If 'the PS3 demographic' isn't a perfect 'porn market' then I don't know what is.

Besides the very young who got mummy & daddy to buy their console
it's mostly a bunch of console owning mostly male single adolescents/20&30-somethings.
Prime 'tug-man' movie audience if ever there was.

There are a couple of million of them in the USA alone.

There are no suprises that some of the porn movie guys are going after those $'s.

It's not exactly rocket science.

(and before anyone leaps in to do the 'console v console' bore & decides I've only labelled most PS3 owners as 'tug-men' the same sort of thing would apply to the XBox 360 demographic too - if the XBox 360 had come with an HD DVD drive built-in)

MMMmmmmmmmmmm.......pooooorrrrrrrrnnnnnnnnnn.

Rosey doesn't talk back, can be bitch-slapped around without fuss and requires no money.

Porn using both formats just reinstates my previous statements that THERE WILL NOT BE JUST ONE FORMAT PEOPLE. BOTH ARE HERE TO STAY FOR GOOD. I say again: blu-ray will not be the only 'winner' and hd-dvd will not be the only 'winner'. Be prepared to buy dual formats. If you believe that only one will prevail and that they will start converting the HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of not thousands of existing movies on each format to the 'other' than your head is up your *** and may you never go into business for yourself.
