Apple to shut down Lala music service

Apple to shut down Lala music service

Just 5 months after purchasing the music streaming service, Apple has decided to shut down Lala, likely signalling that it will be integrated into iTunes.com.
All current members have until May 31st to continue using the service, but as of today the site is not accepting any new members.

Lala is a download and streaming music service that gives members a "digital locker" to store their music. What made the company different from iTunes, Amazon MP3, etc, is that Lala would also sell streaming rights to tracks for pennies, allowing for unlimited streaming online of the track, but no download.

Current members will be given a credit for songs they have purchased to use at iTunes.

Apple is now expected to open a Web-based iTunes that will be based on the Lala framework and will do much of the same things, such as a digital locker for "Web-only" versions of the tracks.

Yup...big corporations will keep buying up innovative new companies and dismantling them...then someone comes along and makes something even better every time it happens.

Now apple just needs to shut down iTunes and the iStore, stop making all their "i" devices, and and switch to an open source form of Unix on the Mac. Oh, and lower the prices to something remotely reasonable...maybe then I will consider buying somethng from them...maybe.

EMI - The Day the Music Died-MD45, American Pie
this stinks, but also this was a remember when (moment in time) when you could access any music, any time you wanted, in your own home, w comfy clothes, sipping your fav brew. Something I only dreamed & imagined about. I listened to all kinds of amazing music, ragtime, new groups, something I may never do again. It is out there & now it will sit on some rich guy's shelf - It was :)

Like this comment: Hey Lala, Congrats, I would have sold to Apple too. Enjoy the money. Working sucks. Best of Luck. I would add PS Enjoy St Barts island

Only one playlist? They removed close to ALL of mine. I listen to alot of movie music, and if it doesn't have some ego maniac singing in it then Myspace doesn't have it.

Have you even tried this? Last time I tried it, I tuned into the local "rock" station and listened for about 4 hours...the only music I heard was part of commercials.

The best way to listen to music for free is to just pirate it...this is the only way to get what you want without giving money to terrorists.

I don't mind the commercials per se. It's the repetitiveness of the music and commercials that bother me.
