Sony denies 3D PSP handheld

Sony denies 3D PSP handheld Sony Worldwide Studios VP Scott Rohde has denied recent rumors that the company is creating a 3D-enabled PSP handheld, one that will compete directly with the upcoming Nintendo 3DS.
Rohde was specifically asked during an interview whether Sony was developing a handheld with 3D capabilities, and the answer was pretty straightforward.

"No, no plans for that," says Rohde. "It’s just not something we’re announcing right now. It’s just as simple as that. It’s all I can tell you."

Speculation of a PSP2 has been around for a year, and some analysts believe Sony will introduce the device in September, during the Tokyo Game Show.

Earlier in the week, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai called 3D technology too imprecise.

The Nintendo 3DS uses 3D technology that does not require any type of special glasses.

And movement without a stick is also too imprecise...but sony does not seem to mind making PSPs!

Sony does not seem to want to compete...no PSP2 (even though people have built them in their garages!), no PSPhone (even though it would be one of the easiest things they ever did). I don't really care anymore; ever since FW 3.21, I have no desire to give them money.

Thus says the CEO who puts 3D in his PS3... He didn't specify he was speaking hand-held only. The fact that they need glasses on to enjoy is annoying enough. I doubt its imprecise to the point it takes away from game play, but just saying, doesn't anyone find that Sony is taking for to risk a gamble if the CEO can say something casual like that?
