Crazy guy threatens to blow up Best Buy after Modern Warfare 3 sells out

A crazed man in Colorado threatened to blow up his local Best Buy store after the employees messed up his Modern Warfare 3 pre-order and told him the game was sold out.
Lomorin Sar, 31, grew irate after the employees of the store said they did not have his game. The manager offered him a gift card or an upgrade to a more expensive copy of the game, but Sar would not have it.

Instead, the man began asking employees what time they got off work, so he could shoot them outside their cars. Before he was done, he had threatened to blow up the store.

Employees promptly called the police who arrested Sar as he was leaving.

Says detective Bob Friel (via Escapist):

Investigating officers issued a criminal summons to a man who threatened to carry out his own version of Modern Warfare at the electronics store. Fortunately, this situation did not end in violence.

Sar has been charged with disorderly conduct.

i mean i been looking for a harden copy the whole day...i'm not in the hurry to play it and get crazed like this dude...dude, your 31....i guess you really don't have a life...

49.11.2011 19:31

in this day and age he is lucky that the charge was only disorderly conduct.although they would probably have the game in the pen.LOL

I think he should have been happy they upgraded him to the hardened edition at no extra cost, most places would have just apologized. I do think it's right to be upset but he went to far and they did try to make there wrong right. I guess some people have no life other then playing CoD games all day and I guess this guy could not wait.

I don't want my hardened for 360, too much for something I'm not gonna use. Let me know if you're interested. I posted this up in the FS/FT threads.

So...video games don't cause violent thoughts...LACK OF VIDEO GAMES causes violent thoughts.

Or more realistically, being an escaped mental patient causes violent thoughts.

Buy.com messed up my pre-order. I didn't go on a killing spree. Anyways its not like he couldn't have walked to another store. "Upgrade" to a more expensive copy makes me think he pre-ordered the regular game and was offered the hardened edition.

No, they shouldn't have messed that up...but a free upgrade to the better version is hardly worth complaining about, let alone threatening violence over. Then again, it is bestbuy...those morons probably thought that the 360 version was an upgrade of the wii version because it cost $10 more, and if that was the case, then the 360 version would have been useless to the guy.

And then more than enough reason for his actions, after all does the world really need more idiocy?

(No I don't condone the actions of the Neanderthal, but i can definitely say I been in similar situations where I felt like that; difference between acting on your emotions and keeping them in check.)

See the FS thread, I'm selling a hardened if you want. Honestly I hate the game. Maps suck imo.

I know right? You have preorders of the amount that your are SUPPOSED to order but then you mess that up. Incompetency.

Many places messed up pre-orders. I think it had to do with Activision saying they'll get x copies but in the end giving them x-100 copies.

Yeah crap happens. I know many that made a pre-order and didn't get it and not just in video games. Apple has had it with the iPhones and other vendors too. You hit the nail on the head when you said the store was probably promised so many copies and the copies received were actually less than what was promised. Either way it is not the end of the world.

the store should have set aside enough copies to cover pre-orders. instead they sold out. this is consumer fraud. only valid excuse is if they didn't recieve enough copies to cover preorders... and even then olny if they don't sell any. it doesnt excuse the childish threats but his threats shouldn't give the store a pass on punitive dammages either.

Well the store goes by how many copies they'll receive from the publisher (Activision), in the end when Activision is ready to ship, they realize "Oh shit, we don't have these many copies". I pre-ordered the hardened about 1 1/2 months in advance. Got a week 5 days before release saying that they didn't have any.

It don't matter how many were shipped.... the store sold out! that implied someone walked in earlier than the preorder buyer and paid cash for the last copy in the store.

if that happens it is consumer fraud!

Cops tell the lamest jokes. But I'm not saying violence is ever the answer but best buy employees can be kinda rude. If you've ever asked anything more than "where is (----)" they turn into impatient brats.

Yea, just comes to show that's it not wise to play 8-12 hours a day on a single game, not only is it OCD borderline, but it will threaten your very life as you know it. Take heed to much of that crap will rot your brain guys, and he's the prime example of this.

2512.11.2011 12:36

See and people say video games causes violence... it's not the game content itself it's just a crazy ass personality of each specific individual!!

Not at all. Pre-orders are done before the store actually has the items. If the had 100 pre orders (Activision told them they'd get 100 copies) but Activision sent 90 copies, who's fault is that?

2712.11.2011 19:04

I doubt they did not receive enough copies to cover all pre-orders. It would have been simple for the store to count how many pre-orders they have and set aside the copies, our local Blockbuster did that with pre-orders. It is only fair that people who pre-order it get it the night of it's release, they are basically reserving a copy and paying a small part or the whole price tag when they pre-order. Activison may very well have stiffed the store on copies promised but it is the stories duty to fulfill a customers pre-order, not sell there copies to someone walking off the street.

It happened at Best Buy, Amazon.com, Buy.com, and GameStop. Never heard about this with MW2 or Black Ops. They had prestige editions of black ops a week after release. Pretty sure this was Activision trying to be "smart"
