Microsoft will no longer sell PC games through Xbox.com

Microsoft has announced they will be closing down the PC Marketplace, for good.
On August 22nd, the company will shut down the platform and stop selling PC games via Xbox.com.

The company recently announced it would be doing away with its virtual currency, Microsoft Points, finally allowing gamers to use their own local currency. That update is scheduled to hit when the next Dashboard update does.

For those that have purchased games already, your titles will stay available forever. You just will not be able to buy more.

Microsoft says after the 22nd, if you try to purchase or redeem points they will "add to your account an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Marketplace value of your Microsoft Points, and your Microsoft Points will be retired."

If they get retired, they can no longer be used to buy products.

Is this so PC games don't compete with the Xboxs?

I'd imagine it's more because their store was a flop. Their pricing was ridiculous.

Windows 8? LOL! I am still on Win 7! There is a reason why, too!

Windows 8 needs taming indeed. Apart from that it's not that bad. At least it's fast.

Doing away with point cards is a sad day for those that know how to price shop them.

And the PC store never worked properly.

MS wanted to force ALL devs top only use their store hence the whole games for PC but the MS XBox software on PC is really poor.

Install a game it get's deleted when you try starting it up, you install again from CD it instead tries to download it.

Then it doesn't take the key or says it's used or takes it but the game still doesn't work.

Also real hassle trying to log into it or getting a new account to work.
