AfterDawn: Tech news

Today is AfterDawn's 18th birthday

Written by Petteri Pyyny @ 10 Jun 2017 6:07 User comments (17)

Today is AfterDawn's 18th birthday Wow...! It is exactly 18 years now since our site was launched to public for the first time. Yes. Eighteen. In a world where thousands and thousands of new websites get launched each week and thousands of sites fold as well, it seems like an eternity. And how amazing these years have been..
Think about it. When our site launched back in June, 1999, most people were using Altavista for "googling" (yeah, Google had been launched, but it was still just "one of the search engines"), "social media" meant probably watching TV with your friends in your living room and idea of Netflix-style on-demand video service with thousands and thousands of movies and series seemed like a daydream after eating something unsuitable.

But yeah, here we are, still kicking. We've seen world change and our site change as well. Tech trends have appeared and disappeared - and we've tried to cover most of those during all these years.

But we have always had our loayl readership. You guys who visit our site regularly, read our news, share them, participate in comments, in forums and give us feedback. Because of you and your feedback, we have made it through all these years.

On behalf of entire Team AfterDawn, I'd like to thank all of you: all our readers, forum members, moderators, current and former staff members.

Thank you!

In 1999 I started my own home pages. In 1999 I was using Six Degrees, a website that was a forerunner to social media of today. I visited often in the early years, left sometime in the naughties and have now returned to Afterdawn. Great site.

Why would you be so silly as to baldly admit to blatantly violating forum rules..? You'd only need one account, if you simply followed the rules in general, I'll note =p .

Happy Birthday AD... So awesome and glad to have been a part of this community for so long. :)

Because when people spout off nonsense, like yourself before, I call your asses out! AD is all about babying and censorship hardcore.

And you my friend, are among the more rampant offenders. I however, do not spout falsehoods or nonsense.

If identifying your B.S. with harshness violates rules, the so be it. Censorship is unacceptable.

Still kicking.

Sorry, your insistence on what's "nonsense" is quite obviously badly flawed. Nor do you have any particular right to be an ass to anyone, especially since it directly violates the rules here, as you directly acknowledge.

Furthermore, you're proven wrong quite often. Wanna try defending your "MSE is great!" assertion, as an easy, recent example? You won't be able to, of course, and we both know it. And I can easily dig up many, many more. Shall I? I promise the effort will not be complimentary to you, if you try to go there. I also directly challenge you, conversely, to show where you've shown me (or, in fact, just about anyone else) to be incorrect. Go on, try!

AfterDawn is also a privately owned institution, and is not obliged in any way to accord you *any* rights whatsoever, when using their website (beyond avoiding criminal acts against you, of course). They may censor/ban you (or anyone else) here exactly as they see fit, and you have no say in the matter, beyond choosing whether or not to continue using the site. You can invent whatever "rights" you wish, but no one else has to play along.

Nor is your intentional flaunting of forum rules in service of any particular "higher morality", so you can stop that pretense, as well. A large proportion of your posts are unsolicited, unwarranted direct attacks on people, simply for holding a different opinion from your "learned" self, while almost always provably incorrect, as well. In fact, those attacks are exactly why you keep earning bans!

You badly need to learn how to engage in civil debate and discussion. I dare you to try the same tactics in public, in person with most people on the planet. Hope you duck well! No, you don't have to be a rude jerkwad to disagree with someone; get over yourself.

Tl;dr? You have exactly zero excuse for acting as a boor and bully on AD, and you are fooling no one, most especially the mods/staff, as you are obviously well aware, Mr. 8 Sockpuppet Accounts. Nor can you back up your BS, nearly all of the time, making you both rude and wrong, a truly unfortunate and unpleasant state to inhabit.

Good day to you. Feel free to expire in a very hot reducing environment.
