Oura Ring 5 unveiled - 40 percent smaller than its predecessor

The domestic smart ring manufacturer OURA, which originally set out from Oulu to the world, has announced the latest generation of its ring lineup, the Oura Ring 5.
This is the company's most significant design leap so far, as the new model is as much as 40 percent smaller than the previous Oura Ring 4 model. As a result, the company is marketing its newcomer as the world's smallest smart ring, whose thinner and lighter titanium structure and smoother curvature make it less noticeable and more natural-feeling on the finger.

However, the small size still offers comprehensive technical features, and the ring continues to provide a week-long operating time on a single charge.

The sensor bumps on the inner surface of the ring have been made lower, which improves skin contact. In addition, the new signal architecture uses more powerful LEDs and a total of 12 stronger signal channels, which are promised to ensure accurate measurement results for an even wider range of different finger types and skin tones. The ring is protected against dust and water down to 100 meters in accordance with the IP68 rating, and its titanium surface is protected by a more scratch-resistant PVD coating than before.

Alongside the hardware updates, Oura is introducing a wide range of new software features that will be available for Oura Ring Gen3 models and newer generations. These include, for example, real-time Live Activity Tracking workout monitoring, which allows the user to track, among other things, speed and distance during running, cycling, or strength training directly from their smartphone.

The biggest innovation, however, is the Health Radar suite, which continuously monitors the user's biometric signals in the background and aims to detect abnormal patterns before they develop into problems.

At the heart of this expansion are blood pressure signals, which track blood pressure fluctuations especially during the night. In addition, there is 30-day monitoring of nighttime breathing, and Oura has started a collaboration with sleep health company Resmed to help users identify and assess potential sleep disorders.

On the metabolic health side, Oura is bringing a new GLP-1 Insights feature to its app, designed to support independent monitoring for people using weight management and GLP-1 medication.

The feature combines medication dosing, user-recorded side effects, and weight changes with Oura's own sleep, activity, stress, and readiness data.

In the United States, Health Records, which combines clinical data, and the AI-based Counsel Health doctor service will also be brought into the app.

General improvements on the software side also include the Locate feature, which makes it easier to find lost Oura devices, as well as a new privacy feature that allows data to be deleted from the app for a specific time period without having to erase the entire long-term history.

Alongside the ring, Oura is bringing to market a new portable aluminum Oura Ring 5 Charging Case travel charging case, which supports wireless charging and contains enough power to charge the ring for a month.

The case is sold separately as an accessory. The Oura Ring 5 itself is available in sizes 6-13, and the company recommends using a sizing kit to ensure the correct size, as the significantly smaller size of the ring may change the fit compared to previous generations.

Using the broader app features still requires a monthly membership,.

The Oura Ring 5 is currently available for pre-order, and its worldwide deliveries will begin on June 4, 2026, although some of the new health features, such as blood pressure and GLP-1 medication tracking, will initially be released only in selected markets in English.
