GBP3M Funding Announced for Pharmacy Regulation


LONDON, September 10 /PRNewswire/ --     Ben Bradshaw, Minister of State for Health Services, today announced at
the British Pharmaceutical Conference (BPC) in Manchester, to an audience of 
pharmacy professionals, that GBP3million of Government funding would be 
committed to support the establishment of a new regulatory body for 
pharmacy - the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Andrew Gush, Treasurer of the British Pharmaceutical Society of Great 
Britain (RPSGB),said: "The Society has made strong representations to the 
Government about the costs relating to the establishment of both the 
regulatory and future professional bodies. While we welcome the GBP3million 
in funding announced today by the Minister towards the transition to the 
General Pharmaceutical Council, we see this as a first step and will continue
engaging with the Department of Health on funding to support the 
establishment of a professional body for pharmacy."
