Pirate Bay founder arrested in Cambodia

Over the weekend, the fugitive co-founder of The Pirate Bay, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, was arrested in Cambodia.
The arrest came on the request of Sweden, where Warg still needs to face a one-year prison term for copyright violations.

National police spokesman Kirth Chantharith added: "He is being detained in Cambodia and we are waiting to expel him."

In 2009, Warg and the three other founders of the site were convicted of assisting copyright infringement through their site. Each was sentenced to one year in prison and must also pay 30 million kronor ($3.6 million) in fines to the media companies.

After an appeal, the court reduced the jail time for the other founders to 4-10 months, but raised the fine to 46 million kronor. Warg never showed to court, choosing to stay in Cambodia.

Maybe he should have gone to colombia and stay in the jungle

How ballsy can an article get to show that money can buy you less jail time & it wasn't even the 'criminal' offering it. They said what Gottfrid was doing was evil & corrupt yet they brazenly strolled up, lowered the jail sentence & upped the exit fee.

Now who seems to be corrupt?

The only reason there was jailtime at all was the fact that they didn't have enough money to push the fine higher, and the fact that they didn't just pay the original fine to the judge to drop the whole thing.

Just a coincidence:

Maybe Sweden are fed up with people walking out of the country and not showing up for court or the police or even jail.

Assange is in the same boat as well as this guy.

He should just get his shit sorted instead of trying to get out of it via screwing other countries.

Unlike this fellow, Assange hasn't even been formally charged with anything, much less convicted; notice the fact that Warg already has a prison term to serve. Overblown analogy fail.

Well... It's not exactly like he's wanted for pedophilia, murder, outright armed robbery with a deadly weapon w/ 14 deaths to account for as well. I mean, I get the joke, but what a warped sense of justice.

It just seems more like they evaded paying taxes than an actual crime was committed. I mean, do you really think out of those few million dollars the people supposedly affected are actually going to see any of that money collected?

I was responding to a previous statement by xtago; you know, *debate*, that thing that happens on forums and blogs. Maybe you should try reading a thread before you get your knickers so bunched..? Maybe then you won't make such a complete fool of yourself. I was merely saying that I didn't agree with xtago's comparison, nothing more.

I also notice you had nothing to say to xtago about bringing up Assange in the 1st place. Therefore you logically merely have a problem with ME, and have immediately trivialized anything further you have to say to me. This isn't kindergarten.

I have to note that the entire problem in the Julian Assange case is unthinking responses, such as yours, aldan. Furthermore, YOU don't get to decide whether "enough" has been said about any subject, that doesn't directly involve YOU. That's how the world works, complain as much as you like.

not at all.just not worth a response.

1410.9.2012 11:29

LOL - So, you bothered responding, because *cough* it wasn't "worth a response"..? I was right; you aren't overly-acquainted with logic.

Look, silly git, you jumped on my case for bringing up a subject I didn't bring up. If you don't want to be shown up as an ass, don't pull the same type of stunt over and over. Furthermore, it'll help you immeasurably if you don't torpedo your own statements right off the bat.

You quite obviously have a problem with me. Fine. But I'm going to continue making you look like a fool. Again, this isn't kindergarten. Furthermore, this kind of mess hasn't worked overly well for you in the past, with me or anyone else; maybe you should think before you spew silly flames?

Please don't feed the trolls.

1610.9.2012 17:01

Sorry. It IS fun watching them jump up and down, though, as their face turns mauve =) . If you meant ME as the troll here, I'd argue, but I guess a troll would argue, so I'm at a loss there *shrug*.

Nothing finer than trolling trolls. I guess that means I'm a "meta-troll"..? I only wish aldan was better prey in that regard; it's like beating up the neighborhood "special needs" kid.
