Microsoft acquires professional social network LinkedIn for $26 billion

Earlier today, Microsoft agreed to acquire professional social network and job posting site LinkedIn for $26.2 billion.
The companies say LinkedIn will keep its "brand, culture and independence" and current CEO Jeff Weiner will remain at the helm. The executive will now report to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

LinkedIn revealed some membership and financial figures following the acquisition, including 433 million current members worldwide, a jump of 19 percent year-over-year, 49 percent growth in mobile usage and 101 percent growth in active job listings.

"The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world's professionals," Nadella added. "Together we can accelerate the growth of LinkedIn, as well as Microsoft Office 365 and Dynamics as we seek to empower every person and organization on the planet."
