  • The default behaviour for single-line functions is now asynchronous again. Now, only multi-line functions default to running synchronously. Of course this behaviour can be changed using the appropriate @ modifiers.

  • The Properties command did not correctly display a multi-file Properties dialog if multiple files were selected.
  • The Remove All function in the Find panel did not correctly clear the list of locations.
  • When viewing fonts in thumbnails mode, an incorrect font could sometimes be used (eg, a Serif found would sometimes be shown instead of a Sans-Serif font)
  • A line in an InfoTip definition can now be completely suppressed even if it doesn’t actually display any fields itself. For example, {!coords}Location:{!} will display a line saying Location: if the image contains GPS EXIF tags, and will be completely hidden if it doesn’t.
  • With two or more toolbars on the one line, the first button of all but the first and last toolbars would be slightly cut-off on the left hand side

  • The Capitalize All Words Rename function now correctly handles accented / non-Latin characters
  • Several problems have been fixed to do with image handling:
  • Scaling greyscale RLE8 bitmaps resulted in garbage.
  • The viewer now allows cropping of RLE4 and RLE8 bitmaps.
  • Scaling 1-bpp bitmaps forced the colour palette to black & white.
  • Fixed problems cropping 1-bpp, 4-bpp and "565" 16-bpp bitmaps.
  • Higher quality scaling of some indexed-color image types.
  • Fixed indexed color bitmaps having their palettes quantized to 16-bpc after some operations (e.g. rotation of RLE4 / RLE8 compressed images).
  • The viewer's Save As dialog now remembers the type you last used even after you close the viewer. The Save As dialog also now sets the initial file extension to match the initial type.
  • Fixed invalid bitmaps being saved if the input was RLE compressed. For example, some bitmaps could not be set as the Desktop wallpaper using Opus.
  • Fixed clipboard image copy not working if the viewer was set to Tile mode and was exactly the right size for the image.
  • Fixed problem that could cause some TIFFs to not be read.
  • Reject BMP files with invalid compression/bitcount combinations.
  • Fixed numerous problems converting low bit-depth images between formats.
  • Opus now saves PNG images using indexed-color mode, with the lowest required bit-depth, if there are few enough colors in the image that it makes sense to do so.
  • Opus now saves GIF images using the minimum color palette based on the number of colors actually used in the image.
  • Fixed image-conversion error number being overwritten by clean-up code.

  • Fixed refresh problems when renaming files to sub-folders (using “/”) in inline rename mode
  • Fixed quotes problem with + sign in {dlgchoose} command
  • Fixed a problem that could cause MSN Contacts listed in the Contacts pane to double-up at times

  • Updated Leo’s ActiveX Plugin to Version 3.1.0.6
  • Improved handling/restoration of input focus when you change files while inline renaming and the ActiveX viewer is open.
  • Increased the amount of time that the plugin waits for focus to be taken from 5 seconds to 60 seconds.

Changes for v9.1.0.6 - v9.1.1.0

  • User Interface:
  • The Find panel's multiple folder selection system is now easier to understand. The Remove Folder button now only removes the selected item from the list and does not clear the path field as well. The Remove All Folders drop-down command now clears the entire path list and resets the path field to the Lister's source path.
  • The Select Icon dialog’s drop-down MRU list is now limited to 10 items instead of growing indefinitely.
  • The path field at the bottom of the Select Destination dialog now updates when an item is selected from the Recent or Favorites drop-downs.
  • It was possible to select text in the Output Window (Script or FTP) and delete it by pressing the delete key – this has been fixed.
  • The Output Window can now be closed by pressing Escape.
  • Fix for files larger than 2 gigabytes sorting incorrectly in the Find Window.
  • Listers & Display Modes:

  • Fix for crash which could occur when double-clicking an already selected folder in Thumbnails and Icon modes.
  • Fix for incorrect item spacing with some fonts in List and Icon modes.
  • The Rename INLINE=ext (and other parameters) command now works in Thumbnails, List and Icon modes.
  • Listers showing collections which are deleted will now notice and go to the collection root.
  • Fixed a problem where CD drive icons in some places would not update correctly when the disc was changed. Also improved handling of folder icon changes in folder tabs, breadcrumbs bars and folder trees.
  • Fix for problem with url/lnk targets not being displayed in the Description column on folder read.
  • Copying file paths to the clipboard is much faster, especially with large numbers of files.
  • If you select multiple files and push Enter the files are now launched in series instead of in parallel. (In particular, this works around a bug in Microsoft Word where it would open several empty windows if it was not already running and you launched multiple .doc files in this way.)
  • Flat View:
  • If the "Automatically sort new files" option was disabled, in FlatView (Grouped) mode items would appear at the bottom of the list making them appear to be in the wrong location. They are now correctly positioned at the end of the appropriate branch.
  • Directory Opus 9.1 Release Notes.
  • 3.
  • Fixed a problem with FlatView Listers viewing a junction folder not correctly noticing file changes within that junction.
  • Fixed a problem when attempting to drag folders to their own parents in FlatView.

  • Fix for zip and folder icons at the Desktop level sometimes disappearing when their corresponding items were modified.
  • Fix for painting artefacts in the Folder Tree when horizontally scrolling a full-row selection tree.
  • Fix for painting artefacts in the Folder Tree if folder tree has both colour and image set.

  • Context Menus:
  • Fix for TortoiseSVN 1.5 icons not appearing on the context menu under Windows XP.
  • Fix for only some files being added to the zip if the Add-to-Zip context menu item was used from Explorer's Search Results and the files were not all in the same folder.
  • Compatibility fix for certain context menu items (convertXtoDVD and HHD Hex Editor Neo) which pass 0 index to GetData instead of -1 as per the API documentation. Explorer allows/ignores 0 so Opus does as well now.
  • The "working directory" is now supplied to context menu extensions, where possible. (i.e. When it's a real directory and all selected items have the same parent.)
  • Fix for some context menu handlers when files are right-clicked in Flat-View or Collections.
  • Slight speed-up for context menu generation.
  • Fixed generic context menus being used instead of Opus's custom ones when folders or zips that were direct children of Desktop were right-clicked in the folder tree.
  • The Desktop folder now has a context menu when right-clicking on a folder tab.
  • Fixed potential crash with some context menu extensions when certain Filetype ContextMenu commands were placed on toolbars. (Some context menu extensions don't cope with being initialised without a file list. Opus now avoids this.)
  • The ContextMenu command can now work on folders as well as files.
  • Fix for CryptoForge context menu not working correctly.
  • Status bars:
  • Status bars with customized background images or colours are now drawn using the current Windows theme (visual style) instead of the old Win95-style borders and grip.
  • When the resize grip overlaps part of the status bar (due to a thin window and/or wide status bar) the status bar elements now fade out towards the grip instead of being cut off abruptly.
  • On Vista, glass status bars (when enabled) have a themed resize grip instead of the old Win95-style grip.
  • Fix for incorrect alpha-blending of icons on Vista glass status bars (when enabled).
  • Directory Opus 9.1 Release Notes.
  • 4.
  • Glass status bar are now turned off for maximized windows. This is for aesthetic reasons and to avoid the difficulty of choosing Custom text colors that are visible on both light and dark backgrounds (since glass goes very dark when maximized).
  • Glass status bars are now slightly "frosted" for better readability and to make the glow around text more subtle.
  • Text on glass status bars is now more similar to titlebar text in terms of default color & glow.
  • Bar graph frames on glass with f=2 are now solid white instead of black. New arguments f=4 and f=5 force solid black and white frames, respectively, regardless of glass.
  • New bar graph frame argument f=6 produces an indented border, the opposite of f=1.
  • Vista:
  • Fix for left-hand, "themed" toolbars on Vista not adjusting their background when the status bar was toggled.
  • Fixed Vista rendering problem with truncated toolbar chevrons.
  • Under Vista, the "View Help" in the Help menu when on the desktop did not work.
  • Under Vista, RMB drag no longer incorrectly shows the no-drag cursor.
  • Under Vista, the Go /Desktop User XXX command now works correctly.
  • x64:
  • Fix for Explorer Replacement mode in x64 version – previously Opus was not trapping calls to Explorer made from 32 bit applications (e.g. Firefox).
  • The Windows Messenger ‘Send File’ function (Copy WINMSGR) did not work correctly under x64.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when reading Amiga icons on an x64-based system.
  • Preferences:
  • The Explorer Replacement exclusion list is now correctly checked even when Opus isn’t already running.
  • Fix for Image Preferences where changing the "When Shared" setting to "Tiled" did not take effect until Opus was restarted (except for the "Standard" images where it worked immediately).
  • Fix for the Display - Images page in Preferences affecting some Color settings when reset to defaults.
  • Fix for the Folder Tabs background colour always coming from Preferences, whether or not "use system color" was set, if an image was used for the Folder Tabs background. (The background colour could have been wrong for images that didn't fill the Folder Tab strip or for images that were alpha blended with the background colour.)
  • Fix for Office2003-style toolbar "custom" colour gradient boxes being the wrong way around in Preferences.
  • Fix for Office2003-style toolbar non-"custom" colours overriding the "custom" colour choices if the non-"custom" colours had ever been changed from the defaults.
  • Toolbars, Customization & Commands:
  • Fix for buttons imported from .DCF files always having their icons turned off if they used named internal icons.
  • Directory Opus 9.1 Release Notes.
  • 5.
  • It is now possible to display \t in a button label by escaping the slash – i.e. \\t.
  • Having the Copy WINMSGR=list command on a toolbar or menu now works even if the contact list has not been opened.
  • Dropping a drive from My Computer on to a toolbar in Customize mode now correctly creates a Go button.
  • Fixed a problem with commands that tried to set a variable using @set with the value {sourcepath$}
  • The Set FULLROWSELECT command now allows you to toggle between ‘select’ and ‘display’ mode by specifying both options (e.g. Set FULLROWSELECT=Toggle,Select,Display).
  • Fixed a problem where a function with multiple CreateFolder commands with the READAUTO flag set could cause a dummy file entry to be displayed in the list.
  • Fix for label position being ignored with several types of generated buttons when used outside of context menus (i.e. on toolbars/menus):
  • Open-With menu
  • Sent-To menu
  • Shell-New menu
  • Context Menu (i.e. Filetype CONTEXTMENU on a toolbar)
  • Namespace Menus
  • Copy-to-Collection menu
  • Windows Messenger contacts menu
  • History, Back and Forward lists
  • TabGroup list
  • FTP site list
  • Copy COLLLIST now takes its icon from the button or menu item rather than forcing a particular icon to be used.
  • Media Files & Viewers:
  • Fix for Play window not auto-closing after playing MP3 files.
  • Play window now displays basic information for MP3 files.
  • Movie & GIF thumbnail borders now match the aspect of the video/image, instead of being padded to the full thumbnail size, when film sprockets are enabled. (This was already the case when sprockets were disabled.)
  • Fix for resource leak when generating movie thumbnails.
  • Fix for problem getting EXIF data from Fuji photos with corrupt GPS tag.
  • Fix for incorrect bitrate & datarate reports for some AVI and WMV files.
  • Fix for incorrect track number (+1) shown for WMA tracks from Napster.
  • Fix for garbled output when converting 16-bit images to GIF.
  • Fix for bug that caused Amiga icons (and possibly other low colour-depth images) to be jumbled when reduced in size (e.g. when displaying very small thumbnails).
  • The MultiView plugin now re-opens almost instantly if it has been used recently.
  • The MultiView plugin now ignores XML files as it did an awful job of displaying them.
  • FTP:
  • Small change to enforce directory listings as ASCII with TYPE A for rogue Compaq servers.

Changes for v9.1.0.5 - v9.1.0.6

  • Fixed a problem that prevented the copying of folders to an FTP site from working
  • Fixed a problem with file change detection through folder junctions
  • Fixed a crash when the Find Results were directed to a locked Folder Tab
  • Fixed layout of Rename dialog on 800 x 600 displays
  • Delete EMPTYRECYCLE command no longer blocks subsequent commands in the function when the recycle bin is empty

Changes for v9.1.0.4 - v9.1.0.5

  • Bugs fixed / minor changes:
  • The new grp:XXX syntax in wildcard pattern matching did not properly resolve the name of the Filetype group (with the result that only the default groups Images/Documents/etc would work.)
  • Right-click / Rename on the Folder Tree incorrectly displayed the full Rename dialog (with an incorrect filename) rather than entering inline rename mode as intended
  • The ADD argument can now be used with the Clipboard SET command to add text to the existing clipboard contents.
  • There is a new ext2 modifier for file command codes (e.g. {file|ext2}). This is basically the same as the existing ext modifier except the period is omitted (so, for example, {file|ext2} might return txt whereas {file|ext} would return .txt)
  • Fixed a problem where Copy UPDATEALL and UPDATEEXISTING would incorrectly delete pre-existing empty folders in the target directory.
  • Swapped the key shortcuts for Delete and Edit in the Folder Aliases Preferences dialog to be more logical.

Changes for v9.1.0.3 - v9.1.0.4

  • New Features:
  • Inline rename (renaming a file in the Lister by pressing F2 rather than through the Rename dialog) now supports the case-altering functionality of the full Rename dialog. When editing a name you can press:
  • Ctrl + L lower-case all, Ctrl + U upper-case all, Ctrl + W capitalize all words, Ctrl + P capitalize first word
  • Added a new SHOWPREVIEW argument to the Rename command. This lets you control the state of the preview display when opening the Advanced Rename dialog.
  • It is now possible to auto-generate a list of Rename Presets in a toolbar or button. To do this, use the command Rename PRESET=!list
  • It is now possible to refer to File Type groups in most places where filename wildcard pattern matching takes place. The syntax for this is grp:xxxx where xxxx is the group name. For example, Select grp:Images: automatically select all files matching the Images group. Set SHOWFILTERFILENAME grp:documents: hide all files not in the Documents group
  • The FTP Address Book has a new Connect button in its toolbar. This lets you connect to a site directly from the address book.
  • FTP sites displayed in the FTP drop-down menu now have context menu actions - right-clicking on these gives you the option to Connect, Edit or Delete the site.
  • The FTP Auto-Upload functionality has been extended to support external programs that return immediately upon invocation, or do not return at all. Previously, Opus would wait until the program it launched had returned before prompting to re-upload the file, however this methodology fails if the program launched returns immediately.
  • There are several new options in Preferences / File Operations / Options that let you configure the auto-upload monitoring. The default is Check for modifications when launched process exits - this is the old behaviour. The new Monitor options let you refine the detection of file changes.
  • Monitor file until it changes means Opus will monitor the downloaded file indefinitely until it either changes or is deleted. Note that only the first change to the file will be detected using this option - if the file subsequently changes again Opus will not detect this.
  • Monitor file for X minutes makes Opus monitor the downloaded file for the specified time. Any changes to the file within this time period will be noticed.
  • Monitor indefinitely (until Opus exits) means that Opus will monitor the downloaded file indefinitely until either Opus exits or the file is deleted. Any changes to the file will be detected.
  • There is a new escwild modifier for file command codes (e.g. {file|escwild}) that makes Opus automatically escape any wildcard characters in the filename. This is useful if the filename is to be passed to an internal command that supports wildcards. For example,
  • Select {file|noext|escwild}.*
  • The Full-row selection options in both Preferences / Lister Display Modes / Details Mode and Power Mode now have a new modifying option called Display only. If the Display only option is enabled as well, items will visually appear to be selected across the full row but selection of the item will only take place from a click on the item name (the same as when Full-row is disabled altogether).
  • There is a new Set FULLROWSELECT command that lets you control the full-row selection option from a button or hotkey. The parameters are:
  • on Turn full-row selection on
  • off Turn full-row selection off
  • toggle Toggle full-row selection
  • display Command affects the state of the Display Only option
  • select Command affects the state of the Full-row selection option
  • power Affects Power mode
  • details Affects Details mode
  • If neither power nor details is specified the command will affect the current display mode.
  • The Copy ZIP command has a new keepfolder argument. Normally, if you run Copy ZIP on a single folder, the contents of that folder are added directly to the zip file, ignoring the actual folder you selected. If Copy ZIP=keepfolder is specified, the sub-folder itself (including its contents) is added to the zip file.
  • The Filetype NEW command now adds the name of the newly created file to a function variable called newfile. For example, to create a new text file and then automatically open it in Notepad:
  • Filetype NEW = .txt
  • notepad "{sourcepath}\{$newfile}"
  • There is now partial support for the Vista localized folder name system; in the Folder Tree and in the Breadcrumbs path field. This is the system where on a non-English computer, the underlying name of the folder does not change ( "Users" is still "Users") but a localized translation is shown in the user interface.
  • New, re-written ActiveX plugin. Supports x64, Vista Preview Handlers, improved MS Office compatibility, and several new web file types including MHT and URL files.
  • The Delete EMPTYRECYCLE command now lets you specify a single drive to empty the recycle bin for. For example, Delete EMPTYRECYCLE=c: would only empty the bin on drive C. The EMPTYRECYCLE command now also supports the FORCE argument, to prevent the confirmation dialog from appearing, and the QUIET argument to prevent the progress bar and audio feedback.
  • The Rename INLINE command can now take a single argument. If this is specified (e.g. Rename INLINE=single) then inline rename will only be activated if a single item is selected; if two or more items are selected then the Rename dialog will be shown instead.
  • Bugs fixed / minor changes:
  • Files renamed recursively (using the Rename files in selected sub-folders option of the Advanced Rename dialog) are now added to the Undo list and the recursive rename operation can be undone.
  • The BPM (beats-per-minute) column is now populated for WMA files as well as MP3.
  • The TextThumbs plugin no longer includes hidden files when generating folder thumbnails.
  • The advanced function editor now recognizes Ctrl + Insert, Shift + Delete and Shift + Insert for Copy, Cut and Paste.
  • Opus now supports "flat" menus (both popup and drop-down) when the option is enabled in Windows.
  • Adding the desktop folder to the virtual folder list in Preferences / Folders / Virtual Folders is now supported and means Opus will always display the real desktop folder instead of the virtual desktop.
  • The Shutdown Directory Opus when the last Lister closes option did not always work reliably.
  • In Flat View, renaming both a folder and a file in that folder at the same time (via wildcards) would cause the size of the file to be displayed incorrectly.
  • Fixed a problem where renaming multiple files inline (F2 in the Lister) could sometimes result in them not being re-sorted correctly once inline rename mode was exited.
  • Files created using the New menu (e.g. New -> Text Document) are now selected automatically once the inline rename of the new file is complete.
  • When renaming using Find & Replace, if a selected filename matches the replace string exactly, Opus would only rename as far as that matching file and would then prompt again for a pattern to rename the rest.
  • Recursively renaming files in sub-folders could cause an incorrect "prefix" to be added to the files in the sub-folders.
  • Creating a shortcut to a file collection now works if the collection name contains spaces.
  • The Copy MAKELINK=auto command now correctly names the link when it ends up creating a shortcut.
  • The Prefs STYLELIST SHOWICONS command now correctly shows icons when added to a menu.
  • The Join command now checks before it begins that the destination device has sufficient space to hold the joined file.
  • If there were three or more toolbars on one line in a Lister, the second toolbar did not display a separator line between it and the first toolbar.
  • In Customize mode, using cut on a menu item and pasting it to another toolbar now correctly removes the item from the first toolbar.
  • Opus can now show .WMF files (and display thumbnails) when they are inside ZIP files.
  • Sounds and Images defined in Preferences no longer get lost when they are located in sub-folders of the program folder.
  • It is now possible to undo a folder copy or move that results in a merged folder. Eg, if you move C:\Test to E:\ and E:\ already includes a folder called Test, the contents of the two folders will be merged. You can then Undo this to recover the original C:\Test folder, leaving the original contents of E:\Test intact (except where files were overwritten!).
  • Renaming files using the {mp3songlength} field now works correctly when the song length is less than 1 hour.
  • Opus can now work with ZIP files when they are stored below a directory with Unicode characters in the filename. Also, ZIP files themselves can now have Unicode characters in the filename. (Note though that the files within the ZIP file still do not support Unicode filenames.)
  • The Rename INLINE command's all, ext and end arguments did not work correctly.
  • Improved compatibility for MP3 ID3v2 tags with incorrect Unicode BOM.
  • The JPEG Quality field in the Image Conversion dialog now remembers its previous setting correctly rather than resetting to 0.
  • If any folders were filtered out of the display and you entered Flat View Mixed-No-Folders mode, those folders would incorrectly be revealed.
  • The {dlgopen} and {dlgsave} command sequences now let you specify the initial filename/path successfully.
  • Decreased the threshold at which Opus considers an image to be greyscale (affects the scaling routine used when generating thumbnails) to prevent misidentification of images with very little color in them.
  • Opus will now correctly detect file changes on junctions to drives without drive letters.
  • The Play dialog now supports the standard Opus "top-level" functionality.
  • Exporting and importing three-button buttons would lose the three-button state. (An exported three-button button would turn into a drop-down menu on import.)
  • Fixed sorting in the Folder Tree of ZIP files and the Vista Profile directory.
  • No longer shows incorrect {GUID}-style tooltips for folders in the Vista Profile directory.
  • Fixed a problem where docked glass/taskbar-style toolbars would disappear when the computer came out of hibernation.
  • Undoing a Clipboard PASTE command which created a text or image file (pasting text or image data from the clipboard to a file) now works correctly.
  • The Undo LISTMENU command now correctly respects the icon settings of the button.
  • The Viewer status bar now correctly updates when the currently viewed image is deleted.
  • If Viewer preferences set the left mouse button to toggle full-screen mode then you couldn't reveal the full-screen viewer's menu or toolbar by clicking the top and bottom edges of the screen. This now works.
  • The Select previous folder when going Up option is no longer overridden by the Automatically select first file in folder option.
  • Changes to the Animated GIF plugin:
  • Added support for Crop and Undo-Crop.
  • Added support for controlling GIF animations via keyboard media buttons (play, pause, etc.).
  • Interlaced (sub-)images shorter than 4 pixels were not decoded properly.
  • More robust handling of corrupt images.
  • Selection preserved when rotating.
  • Scrollbars no longer appear/flicker when scrolling large images with the scrollbars hidden.
  • Memory leak when rotating GIF images 90 degrees clockwise.
  • If the Viewer was configured to resize only for the first image then new GIF viewers always opened at the minimum window size. If the Viewer was configured to resize for all images then a similar problem cause slight flickering when changing from another image type to a GIF.
  • Fixed several bugs in Flatten layout code which sometimes resulted in unnecessary scrollbars and poor tile arrangement and window resizing.
  • Fixed rotating images, when zoom set to Fit-to-Page, resulting in scaled down images despite there being screen space for them to be larger.
  • The animation toolbar was impossible to use if the left button was configured to close the viewer or toggle full-screen mode.
  • You can now shift-click to select the image when the left button is configured to close, advance or toggle full-screen. (As well as Scroll, which worked previously.)
  • The {fileshort$} and similar "short" filename command sequences would incorrectly return the name of the parent folder if the filename in question was already a "short" (8.3) name.
  • If a ZIP file was open in Explorer and files from it were dragged to an Opus Lister, a temporary folder would be created (in the %TEMP% directory) that would be locked and could not be deleted until after a reboot.
  • Dragging files from Explorer ZIP to an Opus Lister would display a progress bar with incorrect file counts.
  • It was possible for the DESCRIPT.ION file to become corrupted if doing multiple simultaneous copy or move operations to the same destination folder.
  • The font selection control would incorrectly select a different font size if the currently selected size wasn't listed. (e.g. If point size 7 was set but 7 was not in the list then 72 would have been selected instead.)
  • The Filter field will no longer clear or affect unrelated filters. For example, modifying a File filter will leave any current folder filters untouched.
  • Drag and drops can now be consistently cancelled by pressing the alternate mouse button. (e.g. When dragging with the left button, press the right button to cancel.)
  • It is now possible for Lister Styles to trigger a folder size calculation if the Get Sizes option is enabled in the style's format.
  • Context menus added to toolbars using the FileType CONTEXTMENU command are now updated & refreshed whenever the current file selection changes.
  • Fixed a problem where Path fields (e.g. Path (Favorites List)) would not display the icon for the current folder correctly on Vista.
  • A drop-down Path (Favorites List) field now displays the entire contents of your Favorites list including any sub-folders.
  • Fixed a problem where the mouse could get in the way of keyboard operation of sub-menus. (If the mouse happened to be positioned over the parent menu, it would not be possible to open any sub-menus using the keyboard.)
  • Alt-clicking to edit buttons (when the option is on in Preferences) now works when the button is in the >> menu due to lack of space on the toolbar.
  • Improved support for MP3 album art (now handles the MIME type image/jpg as well as image/jpeg).
  • WMA thumbnail support was broken - now fixed.
  • The Zip Check Out command would cause an unnecessary folder to be created in the %TEMP% directory.
  • The Breadcrumbs Path field no longer uses the Office 2003 toolbar colors if the Office option is actually turned off in Preferences (in this case, it uses the system highlight colors instead).
  • If a Lister-local toolbar was turned off while in Customize mode, any hotkeys added by that toolbar were not correctly removed from the Keys tab in the Customize dialog.
  • The Remove from Collection command now works when both files and sub-collections are selected at the same time (the files are removed from the collection and the sub-collections are deleted).
  • The Viewer now displays more meaningful error messages when an error occurs opening the image file.
  • Fixed a problem in Vista where dragging a file out and back in to an Opus Lister could result in two "drag cursors".
  • The Viewer "Fit-to-page" option should no longer resize the window larger than necessary
  • The Viewer "Fit-to-page" option is now reapplied correctly when the image is rotated
  • Configuration backup and restore should now work correctly if any Styles or Layouts have Unicode characters in their names. Note that unfortunately this will not fix any existing backed-up configurations, but any new configuration backups should not have this problem.
  • Fixed a number of problems adding and extracting empty folders (or folders with empty sub-folders) to and from ZIP files.
  • Temporary files created by the filem command sequence modifier are now correctly cleaned up (deleted).
  • If a Lister opens when Opus starts up it should now correctly become the foreground window.
  • Fixed a problem with the Delete EMPTYRECYCLE command that would cause it to run one for each currently selected file.
  • Fixed a problem with multiple Select commands in the one function, when one of them uses {file} external command modifiers. For example,
  • Select PATTERN="~(*.jpg)" DESELECTNOMATCH
  • Select PATTERN="{file|noext}.*"
  • Select PATTERN="~(*.jpg)" DESELECT

  • The Go DRIVEBUTTONS command with labels or lettersbeforelabels specified now works correctly with optical drives under Vista.
  • If the Folder Tree and Viewer Pane are both visible, it is no longer possible to resize the Viewer Pane so far to the left that it eats into its own splitter control's space.

  • Adding or removing an extension to/from a File Type Group, where that group has a color assigned to it, now correctly updates the display of those files in any open Listers.
  • Taskbar toolbars now highlight correctly on mouse-over even if Windows-style highlighting in menus is enabled.
  • The width of a Spacer control after turning off Full-width is now set correctly.

  • FTP SSL - fixed an issue where server Date Channel Protection refused Private and only encrypts the control channel but leaves the date channel in Clear.

Changes for v9.1.0.2 - v9.1.0.3

  • New Features:
  • Added support for MP3 ‘BPM’ (beats per minute) field.
  • Added a new advanced option to disable the normal behaviour of the ‘find-as-you-type’ field when the same letter is pressed repeatedly. Normally this will scroll through all files beginning with that letter but with the fayt_firstchar_repeat option turned off, normal string matching will be performed.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • Navigation Lock was broken in the previous release, now fixed.
  • The Auto select first file in folder option no longer steals focus from the Tree

  • Drag & drop from a RAR file with encrypted filenames no longer asks repeatedly for the password
  • Renaming a folder from the Folder Tree now updates the Undo List correctly
  • Fixed a problem with file change notification not working reliably beyond a junction point

Changes for v9.1.0.1 - v9.1.0.2

  • New features:
  • Rename script mode now has an alternative function that can be used for script languages that don’t support “pass by reference” values. The original function definition (in VBScript) was:
  • Function Rename_GetNewName ( strFileName, strFilePath, _
  • fIsFolder, strOldName, ByRef strNewName )
  • with the strNewName parameter passed by reference. The new function definition is:
  • Function Rename_GetNewName2 ( strFileName, strFilePath, _
  • fIsFolder, strOldName, strNewName )
  • Note that the second function is called Rename_GetNewName2 and strNewName is no longer passed by reference. Instead, the new name for the file is provided as the return value from the function. In VBScript, this means:
  • Rename_GetNewName2 = strNewName
  • Both the old and new function variants are supported, so existing scripts will continue to work.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • When accessing a hidden network share (e.g. \\server\c$) the hidden share is now correctly shown in the Folder Tree.

  • Flickr photo matching now displays a progress bar to indicate the length of the procedure. Fixed a problem in Flickr synchronization that could cause Opus to erroneously remove photos from groups.
  • Fixed menu commands generated with the Marker MENU=File function (e.g., items in the File menu added inside system namespaces now work properly).
  • Fixed a problem assigning some keys as hotkeys on French keyboards.
  • The status bar preview in Preferences now respects the configured colours for the status bar. Also, the {dlet} code is no longer ignored in the preview.
  • Dragging a file to an empty tab no longer causes a crash.
  • The standalone image Viewer menu is no longer editable and ignored Customize mode (it never supported editing, but would erroneously go into edit mode).
  • Mixing the rename command with user commands in the same function now works reliably (the user command now sees the new names of any renamed files).
  • Directory Opus 9.1 Release Notes.
  • Functions that use @admin to run elevated in Vista now work if UAC is disabled.
  • The archive bit is now set consistently when moving files between devices and on the same device.
  • Fixed a parsing problem with MS-DOS batch scripts user commands with a template and “&” in the body of the function.
  • The ‘Select Zip File’ dialog (shown using the Add To Zip… context menu function) now lets you create a new zip file on the desktop.
  • Password-protected zip files are now ignored when generating thumbnails and retrieving file descriptions.
  • Fixed window depth issue with Preferences dialog and plugin configuration dialogs (Prefs window would sometimes be sent to the back when closing a plugin config dialog that was on top of it).
  • Fixed a crash that would occasionally happen when opening the Plugins page of Preferences.
  • The time-only Lister columns now sort by time-only when clicked as opposed to date & time.
  • Changes made to a newly created Filetype function would sometimes be ignored.
  • Pressing control-backspace in the ‘Find in’ field in the Find dialog would remove the last path component from the field but the Find dialog would not notice the change, and continue searching in the original path.
  • If a function has @set var = {dlgfolder} in it, cancelling the dialog folder now correctly aborts the entire function.
  • The meaning of the Go TABCLOSEALL=left and right arguments was swapped around.
  • Dragging and dropping multiple folders to a collection and selecting the ‘copy as sub-collections’ option no longer mixes up the sub-folder contents.

  • Fixed rare, minor problem that occurred if another program captured the mouse while dragging in the viewer.
  • Fixed Select-All and then Ctrl-C adding a blank row and column to the bottom-right of the clipboard image.
  • Crop option now disabled for tiled images. Was never intended to work with them and could crash if attempted.
  • Improved handling of BMP files using BI_BITFIELDS and/or colour palettes on true colour images. In particular, this fixes a bug where BI_BITFIELDS images -- often PrtScn grabs -- which were rotated in the viewer would have their pixels shifted if saved back to disk.
  • Opus now saves "packed bitmaps" when writing true colour images that have no (optimizing) colour palette, instead of leaving an unused RGBQUAD in the header. In particular, this fixes the problem with some images turning purple when setting desktop wallpaper on Vista or viewing them using other programs which assume a "packed bitmap" structure and ignore the pixel offset in the BMP file header.
  • Directory Opus 9.1 Release Notes.
  • 3.
  • Opus now uses the %ComSpec% environment variable instead of hard-coding to cmd.exe when opening a DOS prompt
  • Fixed a crash that could occur (rarely) whenever a toolbar was opened.

  • Change to fix FTP issue with parsing of links which had extra space.

Changes for v9.0.0.9 - v9.1

  • Improved folder thumbnail support
  • Improved context menu handling
  • Rename improvements
  • Improvements made to the file change notification system, particularly for Samba/NAS devices. File change notification should now work properly in most cases for these devices.
  • Under Vista, if you attempt to access a folder that you don’t have read permission for, Opus now asks you if you would like to modify the folder permissions to get access to the folder. A positive selection results in a UAC prompt which, if successful, results in the folder permissions automatically being modified to grant you read access.
  • The Ignore Prefix specified in Folder Options is now used when sorting by the Location column as well as by the Name column.
  • The CLEAR argument for the Find command can now take a yes or no parameter to specifically enable or disable the clearing of existing Find results when automating a Find operation.
  • Opus now lets you assign hotkeys that override the hard-coded Explorer (shell) Windows hotkeys like Win+E, Win+D, etc.
  • Opus now supports the new 256x256 PNG icon format for Windows Vista when displaying thumbnails and information columns for .ICO files.
  • The Print command has a new NOWIZARD argument which lets you bypass the Windows XP/Vista photo printing wizard and print images directly.
  • If the Folder Tree was open and the Favorites list was displayed in the tree, and the branch expanded, then editing the Favorites list in Preferences could cause the Lister to lock up.
  • If the File count field was displayed and sorted in a Lister, the sorting would stop working when the folder was changed.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause Opus to keep a file handle open on some removable USB hard drives, preventing them from being safely removed while Opus was open.
  • Zip files that are set to Read-Only no longer allow files to be renamed.
  • Fixed a logic error when blending selected colors with the background colors in a Lister.
  • Content Type formats in Preferences / Folders / Folder Formats no longer lose their settings if they are temporarily disabled by being unchecked.
  • Fixed a problem where the background image for a normal folder specified through Folder Formats could be carried over and displayed in a virtual folder.
  • Fixed a problem when displaying thumbnails for some .OTF fonts where the wrong font would actually be used for the thumbnail.
  • Displaying the shell infotip in a file’s tooltip (using {infotip}) now works consistently in both the virtual My Documents folder and the real folder.

  • The Clipboard COPYNAMES=unc command now correctly copies the UNC name for a shared network drive that has been assigned a drive letter using the subst command.
  • Fixed inconsistent button highlighting when the Set ICONS=toggle command is added to a toolbar button.
  • Double-clicking the desktop context menu no longer opens an Opus lister.
  • Fixed a problem with the Clipboard REGEXP argument that could cause some replaced text to be incorrectly duplicated.
  • Fixed an error (Can’t open “%1”) when opening .html files with Internet Explorer from the Open With context menu.
  • The PRESERVEDATE argument for the Image CONVERT command now works correctly.
  • Opus no longer resets the Zip file icon registry entry every time it starts up.
  • When a Filter field is set to “hide” and “realtime” mode, entering a string and then clearing it now correctly reveals everything in the Lister instead of hiding everything.
  • The FAYT (find-as-you-type) field now correctly passes through the enter key in the icon modes (List, Large Icons, etc) which means you can now type the first few letters of a folder’s name and then immediately hit enter to read that folder. (This always worked in Details/Power mode, but not in the other modes)
  • The Browse button in the “Search For” section of the Synchronize tool now correctly inserts the full file pathnames rather than just the filenames.
  • Holding the shift key down when using the Send To context menu now performs a move rather than a copy (where appropriate – same behaviour as Explorer)
  • Fixed a problem in the Copy ADDTOZIP function that could cause it to fail if the Open ZIP files as read-only by default option was turned on.
  • Fixed a problem with the Preferences editor when editing the file double-click timeouts (File Operations / Double-click on files) that caused the timeouts to always reset to 20 minutes.
  • Fixed a problem with the ZIP file caching system that could cause Opus to get confused if a zip file was deleted and then immediately replaced with another of the same name.

  • the tooltip that displays the drop target contains the target folder name, and the three normal actions (copy/move/shortcut) are all available instead of just copy.
  • Fixed a problem where the last two characters of a text file would not be displayed by the text viewer plugin if hex mode was disabled in the plugin settings.
  • Turning the text viewer’s hex mode on or off now correctly repositions it in the plugin list (it is a catch-all plugin only when hex mode is enabled.)
  • Fixed a problem where the wrong folder in the Folder Tree could appear as the destination when dragging over it (depending on font size and where in the item the mouse was positioned.)
  • If the folder tree selected item background colour was set to transparent, a checkerboard pattern would be incorrectly displayed in the tree.
  • Fixed a rendering issue where the file display border could sometimes overlap the folder tabs by one line of pixels.
  • Fixed some rendering issues with CD album thumbnails if the configured thumbnail size was not square.
  • Tiles mode now respects the configured unselected background text color.
  • Closing a local toolbar via the Toolbar CLOSE command now correctly closes only that one toolbar.
  • Fixed occasional crash with SendTo menu when using incorrectly formed IDL links such as [X]->bla.lnk.

Changes for v9.0.0.8 - v9.0.0.9

  • FTP Links were broken in 9008 by additioni of UTF-8 feature. Fixed
  • Added support for IBM AS400 systems in FTP
  • Fixed (again) the Opening Office documents from Opus on 64-bit systems.

Changes for v9.0.0.7 - v9.0.0.8

  • Several improvements have been made to the Lister Search Field ("find-as-you-type" field):
  • Special handling has been implemented for the case when a single letter is pressed repeatedly at the beginning of the search string. This is to mimic the behaviour of searching with the search field disabled. For example, you can now press T repeatedly to scroll through all files beginning with T.
  • The "command mode" activated by pressing ">" has been supplemented with an additional mode activated by pressing "?" (question-mark). This mode launches programs as MS-DOS batch functions (the equivalent of a toolbar button that is set to MS-DOS mode.) The console window that is opened will additionally stay open, allowing you to read the output of any command or run further commands.
  • In both command modes (">" and "?") you can now add the name of the currently selected (focused) file to the command line by pressing control-enter. You can also scroll up and down the files using the up and down cursor keys, progressively adding filenames to the command line with control-enter.
  • There is a new filter mode that is activated by pressing "*" (asterisk). In filter mode, the string typed acts the same as a View Filter field, filtering out all files and folders that don’t contain the entered string. When in this mode, pressing escape to close the search field clears the filter – to close the search field leaving the filter in place, press the enter key.
  • There is a new select mode that is activated by pressing ":" (colon). In this mode, all files and folders that contain the entered string are selected, and all others are deselected. When in this mode, pressing escape to close the search field deselects all files. To close the search field leaving the current selections in place, press the enter key.
  • The CLI command has several new arguments that can be used to open the search field locked into a particular mode. Note that when opened this way, the leading character is no longer used to determine the mode. You can use these commands to make use of the search field functionality even if you have it turned off generally via Preferences. For example, you could set up a hotkey to initiate the filtering ability via CLI QUICKFILTER. The arguments are QUICKFIND, QUICKGO, QUICKCMD, QUICKDOSCMD, QUICKFILTER, QUICKFTPCMD and QUICKSELECT. All of these arguments can optionally take a string parameter which is used to pre-initialize the field.
  • Several improvements have been made to Folder Tabs:
  • There is a new option in Preferences / Listers / Folder Tabs called Use popup menu when tabs exceed available space. If this is selected and you open more Folder Tabs than will fit in the display, a popup menu is used to display the additional tabs instead of the left/right scroll buttons.
  • There is a new option called Display drive letter in tab label. If selected, and the path in a Folder Tab has a drive letter, the letter will be shown before the folder name in the tab label.
  • There is a new option called Display tabs at the top and bottom in dual/horizontal mode. When this is selected, and the Lister is in dual-display mode with a horizontal layout, the tabs for the top file display are displayed at the bottom and the tabs for the bottom file display are displayed at the top (so the two rows of tabs are immediately adjacent to each other.)
  • There is a new type of locked folder tab: Locked (reuse unlocked tab). In this mode, a double-clicked folder will be opened in the first unlocked tab that is found. Only if there are no unlocked tabs will a new tab be opened.
  • The folder tab context menu has been rearranged slightly. The Tab Groups sub-menu has been moved to the top, and the tab locking options have been moved to a sub-menu.
  • There is a new Expand all tabs to Listers command available from the folder tab bar context menu (right-click on the empty space to the right of the folder tabs). This command causes all open tabs to be closed and new Listers opened in their place. The raw command for this functionality is Go TABCLOSEALL=expand.
  • The Close ALLLISTERS command can now take the collapse argument. This performs the opposite function to Expand all tabs to Listers - the command Close ALLLISTERS=collapse will collapse all currently open Listers to tabs.
  • The Close commands on the tab context menu (Close All Other Tabs, Close Tabs To Left, Close Tabs To Right) by default now only close unlocked tabs. To close locked tabs as well, you must hold the shift key down when selecting the command. The Go TABCLOSEALL command has a new force parameter which can be used to force the closure of locked tabs.
  • The Go command has a new TABSCROLL argument which lets you configure hotkeys to scroll the folder tabs. You can either specify a delta to scroll by (e.g. Go TABSCROLL -1 to scroll one tab to the left), or, if the new Use popup menu when tabs exceed available space option is on, Go TABSCROLL by itself will display the popup menu.
  • You can now press Alt-Enter in a location field (including breadcrumbs bar) to open the specified path in a new folder tab.
  • Holding the shift key when selecting Open in New Lister from the folder tab context menu now closes the existing tab (in effect, moving it to a new Lister)
  • Locked tabs now display a lock symbol to the right of the tab label, rather than replacing the folder icon with a lock.
  • Folder Tabs now support customized folder icons instead of always showing a generic folder icon
  • There is a new option to automatically re-upload modified FTP files. For example, say you double-click on a text file on an FTP site. Normally, the file is downloaded and opened in Notepad, however any changes you made to that file were only to the temporary downloaded copy and not to the original file on the FTP site. Opus will now ask you if you wish to upload the modified file once the launched process has terminated. There are new options in Preferences / File Operations / Options to control this – the feature can be disabled, or set to automatically upload without prompting. There is also an option to use checksums when detecting modifications – this may be slightly slower but will avoid unnecessary uploads when a file has been saved but no changes were made to it.
  • UTF8 support (RFC 2640 and ietf-ftpext-utf-8-option-00.) has been added to FTP. This is selectable from FTP Address Book and Site preferences.
  • The standalone image viewer now has a Crop command in the Edit menu. This lets you crop the currently displayed image to the selection rectangle. The image can then be saved using the Save/Save As commands in the File menu. Also, the Save As command now lets you specify the compression quality when saving a JPEG file.
  • The Clipboard COPYNAMES command can now optionally use regular expression to manipulate the names as they are put in the clipboard, with the new REGEXP argument. This is a multiple-string argument that can take one or more regular expression pairs. The first string of each pair is the search string and the second string is the replace string. For example, to strip off the suffixes of all filenames when they are copied to the clipboard, you could use the command Clipboard COPYNAMES=nopaths REGEXP "(.*)\.(.*)" "\1"
  • The Select command has a new REGEXP argument that lets you select files via regular expression. E.g. Select .*\.jpg REGEXP to select all .jpg files
  • The Select command has a new SIMILAR argument that causes all files with the same file extensions as the currently selected file or files to be selected. For example, if you have a .jpg and a .gif file currently selected, and you run the Select SIMILAR command, all .jpg and .gif files in the current folder will be selected.
  • The Set LISTERCMD command can now trigger the Lister Zoom function using Set LISTERCMD=zoom.
  • There is a new Select previous folder when going Up option in Preferences / Folders / Options. When enabled, Opus will automatically select the previous child folder when the Up button is used to go to the parent folder. This is similar to the existing Highlight previous folder on Up/Back option (the two are not mutually exclusive) but causes the folder to be selected rather than just showing a blinking underline.
  • The End submenu option in the File Types Context Menu and Drop Menu pages has been replaced with new Increase indent and Decrease indent commands. This lets you end a sub-menu within a sub-menu, without having to have a dummy entry at the bottom of the first sub-menu. (Basically, in the old system, a menu item could only terminate a single level of sub-menus, making nested sub-menus more complicated. Now, a menu item can terminate any level of sub-menus.)
  • Pressing the zoom in/zoom out buttons in the image viewer when the current zoom level is ‘Fit to page’ now zooms to the most appropriate level automatically (e.g., if ‘Fit to page’ results in an effective zoom size of 75%, zooming in would jump to 100%, and zooming out would go to 50%)
  • There is a new information column available in the Pictures category called Creation software. This supports the EXIF Software tag as well as the PNG Creation Software field.
  • There is a new information column in the Music category called Protected. This column indicates whether a music file is protected by DRM. Currently this is only supported for Windows Media files.
  • Opus is now able to extract metadata from Windows Media files that are protected by DRM.
  • There is a new option in Preferences / ZIP Files / Integration that lets you turn off the display of icons in the Opus ZIP context menus.
  • The noterm and .. modifiers to the {sourcepath} and associated arguments can now be combined. For example, {sourcepath|..|noterm}
  • The slide-out navigation buttons are now disabled on the left-hand edge of the Lister whenever Check-box mode is enabled.
  • The Cli command has new COMMANDSET and COMMANDAPPEND arguments. These let you set or append text to a command field in a toolbar in the current Lister.
  • There is a new command modifier - @leavedoswindowopen. When this is used in an MS-DOS batch function, the console window will remain open once the function has completed.
  • It is now possible to send a raw command to a connected FTP server using the Go FTPCMD command. You can also use CLI QUICKFTPCMD which will display a command field for you to enter a raw command string. Any results of a command sent this way will be displayed in the Output Window.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • The QUALITY argument for the Image command was being ignored unless CONVERT was also specified (so if you had Image ROTATE as a command without specifying CONVERT, the quality argument was not recognized)
  • Fixed incompatibility with AudioManage namespace extension
  • Specifying CD /D in a batch-mode function now works
  • Google Desktop Search now works again within Opus
  • Fixed a crash in the advanced function editor that would occur if F3 was pressed without first using Ctrl-F to specify a search string
  • When generating thumbnails for folders Opus now recognizes shortcuts to image files

  • Fixed endless recursion of Favorites sub-folders in Folder Tree
  • Scheduled copy (offered when trying to copy over the top of an in-use DLL) now works properly under Vista
  • In Customize mode, Toolbar fields that are partially out of view now trigger the scroll buttons correctly
  • Fixed layout problem in Customize dialog if the dialog window was positioned partially off-screen and the Commands tab was selected
  • Switching to advanced mode in the function editor under XP now refreshes the title bar properly to show the minimize/maximize buttons
  • Made more changes to hopefully fix outstanding problems with Explorer Replacement mode not respecting the Open external folders in a new tab option.
  • Fixed layout problem in the Advanced Rename dialog when the preview was turned on, the window was maximized and then the script mode was also turned on.
  • Fixed layout problem in the Advanced Rename dialog when the window was maximized, the preview was turned on and then the window size was restored.
  • Fixed layout problem in the Advanced Rename dialog – turning off script mode while the window was maximized would incorrectly lose the maximized state of the window.
  • The Output Window now has a minimum resize size.
  • The File Types dialog is now brought to the front if it is already open and the File Types command is chosen again.
  • Fixed a crash in the Find function when searching for text in UTF-8 encoded files.
  • Fixed a problem with custom category language mapping in icon sets
  • Create Folder now works if the folder name specified consists of a number inside square brackets (e.g. [2007])
  • The Type option in Simple Find now works
  • Launching Windows Installer-style shortcuts ("special" shortcuts that don’t actually specify a path) now works properly from within Opus
  • File Collections now work when the collection name contains a period. This also means that Flickr accounts containing a period in the account name now work in Opus.
  • Tab Groups now allow the use of periods in the group name.
  • Drag and drop of images from Internet Explorer 7 to an Opus Lister now works.
  • Drag and drop of files from iTunes to an Opus Lister now works.
  • Fixed glitch where the contents of the user and full name fields in the Flickr Preferences page would disappear when the mouse moved over them.
  • Opus can now extract PDF metadata from PDF files within ZIP files correctly
  • Tab groups that defined a tab with multiple sort fields would cause the columns in the Lister to be offset incorrectly when that tab group was loaded
  • Fixed display corruption caused when switching a toolbar from small to large icons (only occurred with two or more toolbars on the one row)
  • Fixed a problem with the standalone image viewer – when toggling between ‘Fit to page’ and 100% view and then back to ‘Fit’, the image could occasionally end up smaller than necessary
  • The breadcrumbs field is now cleared correctly when opening a new, empty folder tab
  • The Folder Tab Groups Preferences page no longer expands folder aliases for display
  • The Recycle Bin and System Volume Information folders are now properly excluded when synchronizing the root of a drive.
  • The MP3 plugin now correctly handles ID3v2 genre tags that contain an ID3v1 genre number rather than a descriptive string
  • Opus now correctly records the action when creating a shortcut via drag and drop, and so undo of this action now works correctly.
  • The @keydown modifier and the KEYARGS argument for the Go command now work correctly from User commands.
  • The location column now displays the correct path when printing a folder in a collection with the Print Folder command
  • Fixed a problem that could cause folder colours in the Folder Tree to stop working
  • Fixed a problem with the Advanced Rename that could cause regular expressions not to work in conjunction with script mode
  • Explorer Replacement mode now supports Explorer’s /select argument, so the behaviour should now be correct for programs that normally open an Explorer window and automatically select a file (e.g. mIRC, Firefox)
  • When making a shortcut to the parent folder using Copy MAKELINK .. the new shortcut now gets the proper name of the parent folder rather than being called ..
  • Fixed a problem where the Prefs BACKUPRESTORE command was ignored if there was no Lister open and the command was run from the tray icon
  • Fixed a problem in List mode where the range selection (shift-select) starting point was not reset when changing folders
  • The A attribute was always being set for copied files, even if the option to clear it was turned on
  • The Ask for password option for FTP sites now works correctly (previously it would just loop endlessly asking for a password)
  • The Go FOLDERCONTENT command now recursively checks for empty folders, and so will not display a folder if all it contains is empty folders (and so on.)
  • If you drag the only tab from one Lister to another, the tab is moved and the original Lister is now closed.
  • Fixed a crash caused by clicking the File Collections root folder contents arrow in the breadcrumbs bar when no file collections exist
  • Fixed a problem with the ‘Move To Top’ command in the Icon Sets Preferences
  • Fixed a problem where a folder containing only zip files would lose it’s + in the folder tree when it was selected

Changes for v9.0.0.6 - v9.0.0.7

  • New Features and minor changes:
  • This version improves support for x64 systems. Specifically, Explorer replacement mode should now work correctly, and (limited) access is available to the System32 folder (you can browse the folder contents and manipulate the files directly, but some functions - e.g., Properties - do not work correctly.) Also, launching external programs from Opus should now launch the 64-bit version as appropriate (e.g., Notepad.exe). The problem of double-click on the desktop is as yet unresolved and may have to wait for a full 64-bit version which will hopefully be available later this year.
  • The Set DUAL command now has a 'remember' parameter (e.g., Set DUAL=toggle, remember). This causes the Lister to remember the previous dual display path when re-opening the dual display, rather than using the default dual display path.
  • Added an 'Aspect Ratio' column which displays the aspect ratio of an image or movie.
  • Added the Go UNDOCLOSELISTER command. This command opens the last Lister that was closed (so if, for example, you close a Lister accidentally, this command lets you get it back again.) This command can also take the 'closeexisting' keyword which causes all currently open Listers to be closed first.
  • It is now possible to configure a command that is run when the background (empty space) in a file display is double-clicked. This option can be configured from Preferences / Listers / File Display / Double-click on file display background. You can select 'Go to parent folder' or 'Run a defined User Command'
  • There is now an option to use Full-row selection in the Folder Tree (Preferences / Listers / Folder Tree / Full-row selection) • There is a new option in Preferences / File Operations / Options called 'Deselect files used in functions'. If this option is turned off it prevents selected files from being automatically deselected when used in a function.
  • It is now possible to configure the opacity of the drag and drop image via Preferences / Display / Options / Drag image opacity.
  • In the advanced file filter control (e.g., Advanced Find or Select), the Size clause now has GB as a size option, and the numeric field can now accept decimal points.
  • The Select command has new FROMCHECKS and TOCHECKS arguments to convert selection state to checkmarks and vice versa.
  • In Opus functions that launch external programs, the default behavior until now has been for all external programs to be run asynchronously unless prefixed with @sync:. This has now changed - the default now is for all external programs to be run synchronously. For example, in a function that has an external program followed by an internal command, the second command will not be run until the external program has completed. The old @sync: prefix still works but is now effectively ignored, and there is a new @async: prefix which provides the opposite behavior - that is, a program prefixed with @async: will be launched asynchronously. There is also a new flag in Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced called 'function_default_async' which lets you revert to the previous default behavior if desired.
  • There is a new setting in Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced called 'collection_change_delay' that lets you configure the time (in milliseconds) that Opus waits before processing external rename and delete file changes in File Collections.
  • When using date fields in Advanced Rename it is now possible to specify a date formatting string that uses week numbers (both simple and ISO) and ISO years. The new date codes that have been added for this are: w (ISO week number, no leading zero), ww (ISO week number, leading zero), W (simple week number, no leading zero), WW (simple week number, leading zero), and Y/YY/YYYY (ISO year). For example, {shootingtime|D#YYYY-'W'ww}
  • Opus now adds an AutoPlay handler that gives the option to view the folder in Directory Opus
  • Added support for some malformed TIFF images created by Corel Draw
  • Added a new flag in Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced called 'single_click_rename' that enables inline rename using the mouse in single-click mode (with full-row selection enabled). With this turned on, and full-row single-click enabled, inline rename can be initiated by hovering over a file to select it and then clicking to the right of the filename.
  • Added an option to Preferences / Listers / File Display Border called 'Set file display to source when Up/Back/Forwards buttons are used'. When this is enabled, clicking those buttons in the file display border of the destination file display will make that file display the source.
  • It is now possible to configure sub-menus in the File Types Drop menu (in the same way as for context menus)
  • The find-as-you-type field now passes the Delete key through to the Lister if the cursor is at the end of the string. In normal usage this means that you can type a few letters to match a file name and then immediately hit the delete key to delete the file without having to press escape to close the FAYT field first.
  • The 'Display this folder in the other file display' button in the file display border now copies across any user-specified name for the tab that is copied.
  • There is a new 'Hide from Tree' field in Preferences / ZIP Files / Settings that lets you specify file extensions that are not to be shown in the Folder Tree
  • The AS argument for the Clipboard PASTE command can now take 'ask' as a parameter (eg Clipboard PASTE AS=ask). This will cause Opus to ask you for a filename when pasting images or text into a Lister, but will be ignored and not display a dialog if the clipboard does not contain image or text data. Note also that when pasting image data, the dialog also gives options for image format and quality as well as output filename.
  • The MP3 viewer plugin now lets you specify 'Total track count' as well as 'Track number'. Also the Genre field is now fully editable and can be also cleared.
  • The 'Select Folder' dialog in Find and Duplicate File Finder now has checkboxes, which lets you specify multiple folders to search in one go rather than having to add each folder separately. Also the Clear button in these dialogs now has a drop-down which lets you clear the entire folder list (the same as holding the shift key when selecting Clear)
  • By default Opus applies a small amount of acceleration when scrolling file lists using the mouse wheel. This can now be turned off from Preferences / Miscellaneous / Advanced / wheel_acceleration.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • The 'Enable file InfoTips' settings in Preferences / Listers / File Display are now correctly respected in the icon modes.
  • In Advanced Find, the meaning of 'greater than or equal' and 'less than or equal' in the Size clause were reversed.
  • Fixed a crash caused by alt-clicking the hard-coded 'Edit Status Bar' item in the status bar context menu.
  • The LAYOUTTHISLISTER argument for the Prefs LAYOUT command now supports layouts with multiple folder tabs.
  • Semi-bold fonts are now remembered when selected for toolbars
  • The Join command now pre-sizes the output file to the expected total size, which should make the join operation much quicker.
  • Fixed a problem in Preferences / Favorites & Recent / Folder Colors under Windows 2000 where moving the mouse over the Folders list would automatically select the item under the mouse.
  • The advanced function editor now properly supports 'dead keys' (e.g. accent keys on non-English keyboards). Also fixed a problem where a random character could be inserted into the text if two control-keys were pressed sequentially without releasing the control key (e.g. Ctrl+C followed immediately by Ctrl+F)
  • Fixed rendering issue in Output Window when docked to the top/bottom of the screen under XP (the title bar was not properly hidden and so would overwrite the display)
  • Context menus for Filetype groups could be shown incorrectly. Previously, the context menus for a filetype group would be displayed if ANY of the selected files were in that group. Now, ALL selected files must be in a group for its context menus to be shown.
  • Specifying OPENINRIGHT=horiz with the Go TABGROUPLOAD command now correctly opens the dual display in horizontal mode.
  • The @set directive now works without spaces surrounding the equals sign (eg '@set name=value' now works, previously only '@set name = value' would work)

  • Alt+Left Click now works in single click mode to open a new tab
  • The USB Export function now exports any installed icon sets
  • Fixed a bug in the unrar plugin that could cause a lock-up if an encrypted file was selected when the viewer pane was open and already showing another image

  • Fixed 'Error 49' when extracting a .exe from a ZIP file over an existing file (only occurred if the third-party 7zip plugin was installed)
  • Some folders in the Folder Tree (e.g. Network Shortcuts) did not get given a + sign when they should have
  • Fixed a problem where the wrong icon could be displayed in the Favorites list for UNC folders
  • The 'Edit MP3 tags' option in the MP3 viewer plugin now works correctly under Vista
  • The MP3 Viewer plugin now supports ID3v2 tags encoded as UTF-8
  • Opus no longer scrolls the file display when dragging a file over the file display border
  • Fixed a crash caused by specifying a 'Contains' clause with an empty string in the Advanced Find function.
  • The Breadcrumbs path field now uses the font specified for its parent toolbar
  • Folders opened by explicit calls to 'explorer.exe' (in Explorer Replacement mode) now respect the 'open external folders in new tabs' option.
  • Fixed a problem where sorting the list by a different column (by clicking the column header in Details mode) could turn off column auto-sizing.
  • Fixed a problem where navigating folders could cause the current sort column to be continually reset.
  • A function similar to: CreateFolder NAME "{filepath$|noterm} A" SetAttr FILE "{filepath$|noterm} A" SETATTR H now works correctly if more than one file is selected.
  • ZIP auto-extract no longer prompts twice if you select 'No'.

  • PDF metadata now works again
  • In the RAR plugin, further improved support both for encrypted files and encrypted archives
  • Made more changes which seem to have fixed the long-standing issues surrounding custom icons (eg IconPackager). The "support_custom_icons" advanced option has been removed as this is no longer necessary - custom icon sets should now always work as they do in Explorer. This should have also fixed the problem a couple of people were having where the Flickr collection icon was appearing for unregistered filetypes.
  • Fixed crash that could occur when identifying photos in Flickr synchronization. Also the identification process should be quicker than previously.
  • Clicking on an already selected file in Details mode did not correctly deselect all other files unless the click was on the actual filename (ie, if it was on the icon, or on the rest of the row in full-row select mode)
  • Desktop double-click now works when the desktop icons are hidden

  • The Go TABCLOSE command can now accept the PATH argument to close any tabs showing a specific path. The path can also accept wildcards (eg Go TABCLOSE PATH=C:\* to close any tabs showing folders on C:)
  • File commands that can accept a destination path on the command line (eg Copy TO=xxx) can now use the name of an FTP site entry as a destination folder. You must prefix the site name with a @ symbol. For example, for an FTP Site entry called 'myftp', you would specify Copy TO=@myftp.
  • The bug fixed in 9.0.0.2 - "When the Lister search field is displayed, Opus now compensates for any change in position when it closes due to a mouse click on the file display" - is now fixed for single-click mode as well.
