FFDSHOW rev. 3326 (20100319)
Vista / Win2k / WinXP
Filter also supports nowadays decoding of virtually all audio formats used in movies, including AC3, DTS, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis, and several subtitle formats.
The codec also features postprocessing capabilities, support for virtually all MPEG-4 video formats, support for various processor enhancements (such as SSE and MMX), etc. FFDSHOW is released as an open source software under GPL license agreement.
To summarize its main idea, the FFDSHOW consumes way less CPU power than original DivX or XviD codecs, even with maximum post-processing. At the same time the post-processing seems to give excellent quality results and allows more configuring than the original DivX codec. It can even automaticly reduce post-processing if your CPU is getting overloaded. The noise filter adds a kind of a rasterising effect to the picture - might be useful in some cases.
FFDSHOW requires Microsoft Visual C++ to work.
Please note! Certain Antivirus applications may claim that FFDSHOW contains a trojan. However our own tests indicate that this is a False Positive
We also recommend that you read through our guide on how to install and configure FFDSHOW.

2886 (20090420)
tai FFDSHOW rev. 2880 (20090415) ei toimi Windows Movie Makerissa (ei anna tallentaa elokuvatiedostoksi noilla versioilla)
This is THE only decoder you probably need to playback the video files you 'obtain' on your PC. It handles all the popular formats like Xvid, DivX, mpeg4 and MPG,MPEG and even MKV easily.
What are you reading these for...just download it now!
the day i used ffdshow i stopped using anything else. gr8 stuff.

btw : r2754 is corrupted ? "Setup files are corrupted, obtain a new install file" that's the message i got.
FFdshow is great for pros, and pro-ams

But so is CCCP. And CCCP takes the pain of learning out of FFshow nightlies for everyone else

Once upon a time I used FFdshow nightlies
I've been using these "nightly builds" for several years now and without this, my HTPC would be a far inferior beast for all it's processing and graphical power. Read ALL the information you can find on this software and suitable settings (for example, www.team-mediaportal.com forums), read it again, then install it, set it up, and enjoy vastly superior images, especially on large HD1080p screens. Or, keep using 'one setting suits all' products from your regular over-priced vendors.

It did take me a while to work everything out, but I can now take a fresh install and customise it appropriately in 2 mins, so it's not difficult, but I will admit that I couldn't have done this with any degree of certainty until I actually researched the software.

However, When you buy a car, do you expect the Owners Manual to tell you EVERYTHING about the vehicle, or do you rely on third party manuals, expert mechanics and home-trained motoring geeks? Same with this - let the developers do the good stuff designing the beastie, and let the geeks have fun breaking it, working out what works for them (the developers might not even know this!) and then publishing their findings online.

Seriously good results - my wife even commented on it...
I think I said it before, but the best builds so far come from msvc 2003. Was able to fix playback of a movie that seemed to have delay problems with when I got it.
And there has only been 3 official betas, the rest simply nightly builds pretty much.
Yeah, of course there will be beta versions, but FFDSHOW has been this way for a long time, and there's rarely any change log made available.
For all you guys mewling and pewking as Shakespeare would say ... In order to improve software, beta versions and voluntary bug reports are necessary. New versions mean new solutions and new functionality.
When there's going to be a stable version again???
Yeah, still good, but just how many revisions of this thing are there going to be?? The 2004 stable version works well; is anyone on this project going to release a final stable one? Otherwise, FFDSHOW is becoming less and less essential...
worked perfectly
I'd be more impressed at this stage if FFDSHOW would surpass the 100 or so beta versions and come up with another Stable Version. Did all the good programmers leave ? ? ?
Minus a star for this build because it doesn't seem to be able to handle subtitles (vobsubs) correctly. I'm using the stable build until this is solved.
In the beginnings of this codec they claim it was so much less CPU intensive than Divx. I don't know, I'm just taking their word for it. Now Divx codec has improved greatly from the early days so I've been testing this claim and don't see any improvement in CPU usage over the current Divx codec. The advantage this filter has over Divx is that after installation it will play most any video you have no matter what codec it uses. This is something Divx can't do.
A bug is found in VobSub of Subtitles section for bulit 1471 (20070909). It doesn't start up until I open the video window several times and it shows in the wrong position on screen. Yes, .srt and other format subtitle file just works great.
Excellent Package.
From my understanding, this is codec manager as well. You can pick and choose and install different codecs and tell fdshow to use them instead of the pre-installed...should u want to. Its been working pretty good for me...but every know and then....something goes amiss. Not the greatest with .264. A MUST have if u ask me.
I am very happy with it. Only problem feature for me is the AC3 encoded output; it doesn't work with all audio sources, so I am forced to leave it disabled. IDEAL would be if it was only used for multi-channel (>3 ch) output, since spdif devices can all handle stereo pcm that the sound card outputs, compressing stereo/mono audio and losing quality doesn't make sense.
This software is absolutely fantastic. I only wish there was a change log. Would be nice to know if it's worth updating every other day.
Years ago, I refuse to trust this filter when I found it somehow was installing some codecs that doesn't always work until now it works perfect. Quicker response, no skippy frames and the best of all is no "blue screen of death". Works so good when using this filter with media player classic. I like what this filter has is the subtitle displayer with lots of styles to choose from. More user friendly than it was ever before. Keep it up, it's worth it.
I love the thing, I've never had ANY playback problems since I use it, but will the new version ever get out of beta? :)
A few weeks ago I had some problems running .MKV and even .OGM files. I just couldn't get a proper setup to watch anime with the Japanese audio as the one to play. Before this, I used MPC and the Ogg Splitter to play .ogg files and AAC, but finally decided to use FFDshow to playback those files...
...It works perfectly. Now I can normalize it properly in FFDshow, and use Matroska Media Splitter to play the .mkv files with Jpn audio first. Great down-mixing capabilities and fast, reliable seeking in the movies.
Just waiting for Dolby Digital Plus support ;-)
This is essential software. But with no real changelog I'm not downloading the latest version. I still use ffdshow-20041012-sse2 with no problems.
Beta FFDShow rev723 (20061229) fixes a problem with the current "stable" version, in that most codecs were not working under VirtualDub (which uses the VfW interface). EG. MPEG4, MPEG2 did not work. They do work on my machine with the rev723 version.
FFDshow is all you need.. But why has a new version come out 10 times in the last 3 weeks? What problems are they fixing?
Best codec out there!
Yes, why the changelog disappeared for the last versions?
It's more difficult to know if the new version is worth being installed if we don't know where the changes are IMHO
Hell any more I only use this codec. :)
Anyone got a changelog for this version?
This is an amazing little codec, would give it 10 stars if I could, can handle almost anything, and runs very smoothly in the backround.
Every time I received a new avi from my supplier it needed a different codec for Windows MP10 -
got real fed up !
Uninstall all the codecs - install FFDSHOW - plays everything - and with much better sound quality -stereo sounds like stereo now !
This is one of only 2 codecs I use. I don;t bother with codec packs ffdshow and X-Vid MPEG 4 get all my jobs done. :)
"After our reviewers tried FFDSHOW they removed the DivX codecs from their PCs and never looked back."
It's true. I don't use anything else anymore... :D
Hi, this is my first posting! I updated to the latest version and had conflicts with WMP11 and PowerDVD which wouldn't play my avi files. I uninstalled the latest ffdshow 2006-05-06 and reinstalled 2005-12 which resolved the problem! At the time I didn't have time to play with the settings, which could be the problem. Never mind, I'll report back once I have a spare 5 mins. Apart from that previous versions have been faultless!
thaks for all
@ michi90 - it does look different on my PC, but if these later builds DO work better on most people's systems I'll take your word for it and use them.
And yes, an updated Changelog would be nice with each new release.
I'd appreciate if I knew the *Who *What *When *Where *Why on all these FFDSHOW releases. There is no changelog, notes, description since way back. Please..
This is alfa and omega for *.avi files.
"ffdshow-20041012-sse2.exe Sourceforge build is the best version of this excellent codec pack.
The picture quality on the older build is much better than newer FFDSHOWs"
I don't think so.
In my eyes there are no visual differences.
Newer versions (I'm using 20050803) have the advantage of stable overlay colors, when you run ffdshow settings (and you don't have to re-adjust your settings anymore for example with zoomplayer overlay reset etc.).
In earlier (official) versions (2004) you have to use the overlay setting inside ffdshow to adjust the picture.
good goood good
Yeah, after several tests on two machines (one with a Athlon XP 2700+ and a Turion64 @ ~1.8GHz), the SSE version looks the best and uses the least amount of CPU when running videos. If you have an AMD processor, I'd go with ffdshow-20041012-sse.exe from the sourceforge page.
After encoding an XviD (1.1) movie and testing it in a few different media players, I still reckon the ffdshow-20041012-sse2.exe Sourceforge build is the best version of this excellent codec pack.
The picture quality on the older build is much better than newer FFDSHOWs. Maybe it's better default settings, but I'm sticking with the 2004 codecs for now.
2 serious problems with this version :
- The "gradual denoise" in "Blur&NR" is broken
- ffdshow doesn't appear in the list of Directshow
filters in iuVCR, thus it can't be used at all
So, I went back to the old version (12-Oct-2004)
Very useful! Works like a charm.
The only thing that freaks me out is seeing on its download page at sourceforge the last version being from 2002 or 2004.
Combine this with Media Player Classic (Celtic Druid), Zoom Player, and VLC and you're set. NEVER use WMP!! If you're a tech tard then get CCCP's FFDshow manager ;)
thank you very much
very good!!!!!
The filter is really faster than the original divx xvid etc
plus there are lots more controls.
thank you very much
Hää värk !
but the hd file (wmvhd and other) are impossible to see with ffdshow. Whi not?
thanks
There's not much to be said about this little gem of a program. If you're using it, you can tell the difference and you're lovin' it. If you're not using it...doesn't matter. You just don't know what you're missing. Kinda like trying to explain chocolate cake to someone whose never tasted it...
for the nay sayers...there is a nifty feature under Windows called Uninstall a Program.... and unlike some programs..it actually removes all its traces...i fully applaud the progress this project has made and if your familiar with Open Source at all..then you know this is still in "Beta" stage so it may just be hit or miss with your particular hardware...all I can say is it works like a charm for me.. and I havent noticed any lack of audio or time-shifting problems..if yer looking for a polished perfect build.. then wait till it goes stable...till then remeber what you payed for it...NADA
This is still my favorite codec package, but lately there's been a build-a-week of FFDSHOW - once a month would be better. Keep up the good work and improvements, though! :)
I appreciate the efforts of any and every party working in open-source applications, but FFWD show has got to be the biggest joke in terms of recent builds. I'll try this one, silly me, but past builds have caused all sorts of problems, most recently some "interesting" tempo variations that it took days to diagnose, that is when i had sound at all... My advice to these guys is to exhibit patience and release more slowly, stable builds equals public acceptance!! Stop with the bells and whistles already while you're at it. That's why i couldn't diagnose properly - too many functions had been given over to FFDShow too quickly and I had no idea they were there! Why does everything one instsalls these days have to run the whole damned computer? If it's gonna' go earn my rent and then cook me dinner - okay we're go!! until then, keep it simple stupid...
How do you guys know which build is good and which isnt? They have always played whatever I throw at it...??
Another great build. Even better then the last one I tried. Thanks ansi & icl 8!
The best!No problems .
Thanks for the codec. It's great. :)
thanks for this softwear!!
Finally! Somebody who knows what to do! I applaud msvc 2003 and ansi for making a version of FFDSHOW that works with all the good old and new stuff. Works fast and effecient. I give it a 6! Keep up the good work.
What's everybody talking about? This build may not be as quality-wise as some previous builds, but It doesn't crash my computer. I'm pretty sure that all sites get the same changelogs, that's to keep it consistant. It's an okay build, but if you don't want okay, then go back to ffdshow-20050920-fixed. That one was the last real good one.
IT´S GOOD
Does not work! I tried two different versions, ffdshow-20051009.exe & ffdshow-20051018.exe. When I run either under Windows 98SE, the installer gets as far as asking me which components I want and when I click Next, it crashes with an illegal operation error.
Works well., Not much tinkering required,. Thanks.,
Plays everything I want to play without a problem. Great software!!
Not a bad program. THe few annoyances are minimal compared to the better performanace that comes with every build!
Nothing bad about the subtitling or the video rendering. The AC3 sound still sucks pretty bad. If it don't work don't put it in the release yet!!! Ah well, back to ac3filter =)
I'd rate this higher but it's _still_ an unofficial build (where's the original author?). I'm still using the ffdshow-20041012-sse2.exe build which works just fine :)
I gotta admit, this a lot better than some of the last builds. It still got's some kinks, but it works for the time being. I just hope that they can get out an official build that has all of the new cool features. Either way, this program is still the best out there for almost every file!
Iv3_imt: Of course you can use it with pathetic Windows Media Player. It can be used with any media player that uses DirectShow.
Ihave used ffdshow since i first connect to internet. But for this last update i can say that it's the worst.I was forced to reinstall it for a several times and it still didn't help.
And do you know what did help? Version ffdshow 12/2003!!!!????????
Can i use with Windows Media Player?
Any1 plz confirm it
Thank alot
Tons of options plus the great codecs.
FFDSHOW is the best of the best.
Hope it never leaves us.
I've tried the last two "unofficial" versions of
FFDSHOW with Windows XP SP2 and it causes Nero Express
to crash almost immediately, even before I can
finish selecting the files I want to burn.
The message I get:
"nero.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
For more information about this error, click here:"
AppName: nero.exe AppVer. 6.6.0.16
ModName: ffdshow.ax ModVer: 1.0.2.18 Offset: 0000a901
To view technical information about the error report,
click here." (which I did but it'S way over my head.)
The version history says "a hack to not crash nero express" was added. Sadly the hack doesn't work for
me.
I have been using FFDShow for over two years now and it always plays the files I need it to. Not to mention it doesn't clutter my system with useless files and configurations.
This unofficial build works with my computer, and best of all, reads embedded subtitles, which the official release doesn't do for me. Got to stick with it for now.
This is much better than the last several builds, and I am currently using it now. Several new features are nice, but I don't like the fact that my CPU goes to 100% every time I change to another movie. They need to put some of that good ol' charm back into it, but keep processing rates low. Overall, okay in it's current stage. One more thing, it would be nice if they prepared for DivX 6, because a lot of people are going to be using it to create movies.
Ah hah! re-downloaded (maybe a quick update) and it worked perfectly... On to backing up a few movies...
FFDSHOW is an excellent set of codecs to play and encode all sorts of movies...
Unfortunately the FFDSHOW 2005-06-11 download doesnt seem to install... hmm...
This is 5 out of 5 software - in its official builds. Although the official build hasn't been updated since October 2004 (what's up with that?). I'm still using ffdshow-20041012 and haven't encountered any problems. So one point off for not being an official build.

The best!!!
Had to go back to the previous version as explorer and real player and nero showtime all crashed with this codec pack. Re-installed the previous one and no problems whatsoever.
codec packs? no thanx, just ffdshow...
'
The best
Although I Like ffdshow, This new one sucks, bad. The weird way that two movies show up at the same time is just a really bad error, for starters. What I really don't get is why since after the 828 4 release have I been getting a weird line off the left of some of the DivX movies that I make when they are croped. So, unless they can correct this, I'll just keep with the 1012 4 release.
Since installing ffdshow I've never even tried new versions of others.
"Codec packs" are the root of all evil!
why no more updates here?
current ffdshow-20050122, with all kinds of goodies
Only ffdshow and ac3 codec and it works very nice.
Ran into a major problem with this version. I use Tmpgenc and Tmpgenc Express to convert avi video to mpg. Suddenly there was no audio in the converted mpegs. After several days of intermittent troubleshooting, I uninstalled 20041012, removed the program directory, and cleaned the registry of all references to ffdshow. I rebooted and installed ffdshow 20040828 and all returned to normal. I think 20041003 worked ok, but I jumped back two versions to make sure. I'm running XP Home on a 440BX motherboard with Powerleap 1.4 GHz CPU. About the same time that updated ffdshow to 20041012, I also had installed an Adaptec SATA card and Maxtor SATA drive. I hope someone will look into this issue because I really like ffdshow.
I cant't ask for more....
all you need is ffdshow...
yay, issue resolved :)
Powa, OGM and MKV are filters/containers, they are not codecs. You can surely play them with ffdshow if the filters are installed.
PS: Great work FFDSHOW team! You guys rock!
Good decoder with excellent video control, but still has problems decoding some DivX 5 movies and some Windows Media (WMV) movies. May be useful as addon to original DivX 5, which has no decoding problems, but has so few possibilities for video control..
Thanks this works great :D:D:D
Keep it going extremely a good piece of kit.
KenD
Great software, check out potprocessing/level fix/luminanace for those low contrast dark movies. I admire people who make such a quality SW for free.
The reason I like FFDSHOW so much is the fact that it can be used to play in just about any media player with little or no problems. Although I still use DivX to make my movies, but I don't use it for watching. It was the only program that let me watch DivX movies in Media Player Classic by Gabest, and both of them together is like a conglomerate of configs that just blows away the rest.
WOW!!! hly crap this plays movies that used to freeze my cpu this is great download it if you dont have it!!! its amazing
for those anime lovers out there....this should be ur best codec!
for all you naruto fans this is the best codec for the eps. and runs 84 perfect.. thanks to neaxe for the link.. have fun
-XKAL
the only other codecs i have are windows media and realONE and Quicktime alternative.
divx, xvid, nero digitel and everything else went out the door since i found ffdshow
!! DOWNLOAD IT !!
Does ffdshow support the ogm format yet?
Removed all codec-packs, DivX and XviD from my PC, installed ffdshow and have never looked back.
And it's under continually development with releases popping up several times a month.
You just can't go wrong with this.
