FAST wants pirates banned from the Internet

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 04 Nov 2007 6:49 User comments (42)

FAST wants pirates banned from the Internet Although the UK government has threatened to crack down on illegal file sharing through new legislation, John Lovelock, the director general of the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) feels his method will work just as well, ban any pirates from the Internet.
FAST would like to monitor and filter all ISP networks to ensure that unauthorized file sharing does not occur. If such file sharing does occur, FAST wants the ability to lifetime ban the user from the ISP in which the offense occurred. But what if the user than decides to move to a new ISP? FAST will follow that user and "If there's evidence of that person then joining another ISP and then taking up again, we would go to that ISP and say: Here's the evidence and we don't think they should be allowed to use your network". Such tactics would effectively ban a pirate from using the Internet.

Although there is no way Lovelock will get his way on this, it brings up serious questions about civil liberties and how involved anti-piracy groups can become on an ISP level.

I wish TPB would start some business in ISP. I would love to pay them every month to host my internet connection... I want to move to Sealand.

lol

TPB is already working on a replacement for the torrent protocol. As far as I can tell its just on paper at the moment but here is a page on it:

http://securep2p.net/index.php/ProtocolDesgin

Here are two pictures for the protocol:

"then they could move on to censorship advocates, christians"

Huh? What do they have to do with it, why is religion getting involved. Pirates aren't concerned with christans, that doesn't even make sense. You sound like you want to form the KKK 2.0!

Piracy is about making a statement to corporations and that is "make this reasonable" I only pirate things I think are overpriced and/or aren't worth the money. If I like it enough or it lowers in price I'll buy it.

It's people like you who give them more ammo against us and can label us as a problem

105.11.2007 01:15

so... if someone stole a car they cant go buy a car or drive a car? if u stole a cd from a store you cant listen to music? if you stole $ you cant make, or spend $? Thats what i get from it! Okay punish them but this is obsurd!

115.11.2007 01:22

Yeah right. This will never happen. They'd end up banning 50% of the people who use the internet.

125.11.2007 01:58

This one STUPID idea they should send hitmen after anybody that thinks like this

Peace out Personal IDEA

135.11.2007 03:31

I think anyone who talks *bleep* on fourms should be BANNED forever, and if they go on another fourm I will follow them and watch them while they sleep so if they do I can show evidence that am a stalker!!!

why not close the net down you'll still have pirates, hell the word for pirate shouldn't be about a indavendaul but a group that distributes "illicit" infermation, the only time a indavendaul can be a "pirate" is when they sell that info.

Hell the MPAA/Media mafia is proffering off of fear and stupidity they also raid, thus they make for the better pirate description!

155.11.2007 07:31

John Lovelock should be renamed Lovecock with this stupid law he wants to make

As well as 100% of Afterdawn users. I can't see this happening as isp's will want theor money still and I believe this is against some law.

time for us pirates to start our own isp

185.11.2007 10:43

The ISP's would go broke. I certainly wouldn't be spending $ 38.00 a month for service with wireless networking just for surfing the internet. I would go back to dial up in a heartbeat and tell the broadband services to you know what up a rope and suck on the other end. The other comment that states that the entertainment business doesn't understand that we are tired of being their sheep and treated like a mushroom (fed Bovine Scaffology and kept in the dark).

Just my $.04 (Inflation)

Will never happen. What if FAST goes to ISP provider XYZ and tells them they have the 'evidence' (make me laugh) that 80% of their customers are file sharing. Do you seriously think that the ISP will freely agree with those idiots and cut off 80% of their clientel? That would be economic suicide.

The director general of FAST needs to wake up and smell the coffee. His draconian way of thinking is way past due.

I support your Death Squad. Kill all who oppose P2P!

235.11.2007 12:19

this will never happen, why? #1 pirates are not stupid. #2 if i was going too do somthing illiagle i would use my nieghbors internet connection. #3 buy a new network card every week to dodge mac checking #4 roaming in a van with a laptop to find pontential victims.

in a sence of brains pirates have many options.

Those sh!ts are just as bad as the RIAA...

255.11.2007 13:23

What a load of hardened bullhockey! This is about as ridiculous as saying that if we get rid of all of the guns, criminals won't be able to use them to kill people... Not only is it a violation of civil liberty, but it is a blatant attempt to gain control over the Internet all together and say who gets to use it all together.

265.11.2007 19:55

Well, Repub candidate Mitt Romney went on record saying he wants to "chip" sex offenders and monitor them 24/7...for the children. So I guess Pirates will be the ones to get the axe soon thereafter. And 20 years later of course..regular citizens like you and me who might be late on our taxes.

I remember my grandpa telling me that when social security came out in the 1940s (30s?), the politicians swore up and down it would never be used for a means of identification. But try and get a job, rent a car, or apply to college without one.

No thanks.

"Christian Pirate" doesn't work, sorry. Thou shall NOT violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act or "Steal"

Anyway don't take any offense from broad insults, i firmly believe if something is said as joke, or in a lighthearted manner. it should only be seen as comedy or humor and should not be taken offensively, simple. don't take things to heart i say loads of racist jokes, but i don't mean them, mainly towards the Irish and blacks, but its all light hearted and doesn't mean a thing. Am i a bigot for making jokes like that? no. the same reason im not "self-harmer" because i make jokes about myself.

a joke is a joke it holds no water, it comes as quick a social security benefits for foreigners. and goes just as fast.

Peace out.

fair enough mitchls, but all you have done is define irony for me (seeing the first comment as a joke but not the second) as I have done for you ("Christian" "pirate") Oh, and my favorite THOU SHALL NOTs are the customized kind, for instance, Thou should not talk if though does not really have anything to say.

As for stealing, personally, I think Robin Hood is in heaven and as for bigotry that is your business (Thou Shall not Judge) but enough of the preachy talk, that is not who I am.

Laters.

emugamer,

I don't AOH3LL I have Bellsouth/ATT but I would go back to dial up. I still have my dial account with Yapoo.

Sorry for the lousy post. I just can't put the words together tonight. Thank God for our neighbor because my submersible pump crapped the bed and its going to cost $ 1000 - $ 1300 to get it replaced. What aggravates me if I had the equipment I could probably do it myself and save $ 500. I have about 300 feet of garden hose feeding my tank from my neighbors well.

Best Regards

It was a joke - in light of the recent AOL financial news and layoffs....nevermind. If I have to explain it, it was a bad joke :-(

Complaining here doesn't do much good other than it makes you feel better. In the US the Judiciary committee is supposedly cooking up some great law to wipe out piracy and protect the artists. I find it ironic that the artists have to go on strike to get a piece of that new pie. The Media Mafia states they do not understand. "The market is too complex for that." All they want is a percentage. If nothing is collected they would be happy to get nothing. The politicians have to be in their pocket to agree with them.

You all need to write the committee members. Fear of losing an election is the only way to slow them down.

so if you pirate something under that law you get banned, hmm ok lets take it a few steps farther. if your caught stealing an extra bred roll from a buffet you get banned from eating, if your late on returning a movie you can no longer rent one ever again, if you get a speeding ticket you banned from driving, if you get a ticket for jay walking you can never use the streets again, ect.....
what a bunch of smegma that law is. i think he should be banned from opening his big mouth for the nexr 50 years or so.

England's version of the MPAA and the RIAA. Thats all we need more organizations like this to think they can police everyones activities.
