New DivX H.264 decoder in private beta test

New DivX H.264 decoder in private beta test DivXNetworks, developers of the popular DivX MPEG-4 ASP codec, have announced a closed beta test for a new MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) decoder. The DivX H.264 decoder, given the codename of "Project Rémoulade," is intended to compete with CoreAVC, a popular and low cost AVC encoder from CoreCodec, as well as the free ffdshow decoder.
Based on tests documented by DivXNetwork internal testers, the new decoder can decode AVC video significantly faster (more frames per second) than ffdshow, and usually slightly faster than CoreAVC. Although most testers seem to confirm the comparison with ffdshow, some find CoreAVC to be consistently faster.

the DivX H.264 decoder can play video encoded with the High 10 and High 4:2:2 profiles, which have yet to be included in any version of CoreAVC to be released. The CoreAVC website indicates those profiles will be supported in the upcoming CoreAVC Enterprise Edition.

Entry into the beta program is limited to DivX Lab members. More details on both the decoder and beta test are available on the Project Rémoulade homepage

I'm happy to report that after downloading the beta and doing a couple of quick tests I can already see an improvement over ffdshow. I can't personally compare it to CoreAVC since I don't own that decoder. Hopefully I'll have more to report in the near future.

how are encoders coming along? I want more compression at solid SD quality(IE less blocky ness).

THE REALLY BIG QUESTION WILL IT WORK WITH MEDIA CENTER WITHOUT CASHING IT !!!

PS Sorry for all the caps i felt it need it :)

I can't speak for Media Center since I stopped using it a few months ago, but it definitely works with SageTV. I've been able to playback files with CABAC on my ancient HTPC (P4 2.8HT) for the first time ever. I'm currently in the process of testing at higher bitrates to see if I can start using CABAC for all my encoding.

That really inresting, ffdshows ok, but tweaks for one movie are going to hog cpu for others its a pain.

Hry vurbal, where u get a copy ive used my divx beta login but cant find a download for toffee :(

You should find it just a short ways down on the main project page (http://labs.divx.com/ProjectRemoulade). Just look at the end of DigitAl56K's top update (for beta 2).

Always good to try something new and different. Everybody on the internet though is complaining about working with AVCHD, which is H.264!
The hardware players are DivX;-) compatible. So is PS3!
With AVIAddXsubs I can mux subtitles into the DivX files and turn them on and of in my PS3.
I have the best tool available which is VirtualDub were I can do everything with DivX;-)
DivX;-) can be very fast compressed and the colours exceed what I have been able to achieve in H.264.
It's not about compression. It is about compression speed!!! It is about not needing Dual Zeon or Quad core computers to do compression. It sis about resonable compression! Store media and internet connections get bigger and bigger.
DivX;-) is the right degree of compression H.264 is too hard!
DivX;-) offers 720p in 3000 kbts!! What I want is an option for adding sound track to a video compression and adding subtitle mux like AVIAddXsubs in the DivX;-) Converter-that would be news-drop H.264 it is awfull to work with!

Hey cheif head over to the divx beta link and ask one of the nice mods to let you into the beta test, im sure they will if you ask nice, then you can request the mod be written in at beta stage... if you make the case they will listen, ive been a beta test on a number of divx products, they have great staff and are very open to product advancement/devlopment ideas....
