Sony Ericsson unveils Xperia X8 Android device Sony Ericsson has launched its latest Android device, the Xperia X8, a mid-level entry to the smartphone market.
The device will have a 3-inch HVGA touchscreen, a 600 MHz processor,Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS, a 3.2MP camera, a microSD slot, a 3.5mm headset jack, and will run the aging Android 1.6.

An update to 2.1 is expected "soon," however, says Sony. On top of the Android OS, the device will use Sony Ericsson's "four corners" UI layer.

Additionally, the X8 will run the Timescape app, which manages calls, texts, emails, and social networking.

As with all SE devices, the phone will come with strong video and audio playback players.

Price and release date were not revealed.

again with the 600Mhz proccessor..what a waste of scrap metal

It is an economy phone...the 600mhz processor is to be expected. It is a sony product, so outdated firmware and empty promises of upgrades are to be expected.

Seems like exactly what you would expect the x10's little brother to be.

Yep that's pretty much what every company's standard seems to be today: hold out on updates and screw the consumer, except that Sony's better, way better at it. No, unless a phone comes out with the latest and the greatest I'm not buying it, period.

Everyone makes you wait...but to release a phone in 2010 that does not even have 2.0.1 is downright criminal. I guess they want to guarantee that everyone who buys one gets root...that way the warranty is void...a huge savings when you make hardware as poorly as Sony does.

i mean fair enoguh you wait for them to upgrade their FW and intergrate their skin etc into a new android FW, but exactly as killerbug says, WTF sony, you announce a damn phone in oct when 2.0 was out and it comes out 6 months SIX MONTHS later, when 2.2 has been announced and you bring it out with 1.6......

sometimes i dont know what they are doing.

Just think of those people with the first android phones who can't upgrade because the CPU/Screen/Memory are not sufficient...at least they can say, "I have the same version of android as the best phone sony makes"
