PETA goes after Super Mario 3D Land

Written by Andre Yoskowitz @ 15 Nov 2011 12:59 User comments (34)

PETA goes after Super Mario 3D Land PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has started a new ad campaign targeting the brand new Super Mario 3D Land video game for the Nintendo 3DS.
The group seems to be up in arms over Mario's "Tanooki" racoon suit.

Says PETA:

Tanooki may be just a 'suit' in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur.

Nintendo was quick to respond to the campaign:

Mario often takes the appearance of certain animals and objects in his games. These have included a frog, a penguin, a balloon and even a metallic version of himself. These lighthearted and whimsical transformations give Mario different abilities and make his games fun to play. The different forms that Mario takes make no statement beyond the games themselves.

Does reality & fantasy or the thought of ever using a dictionary cross these peoples mind? But then people have probably told them the same thing for years, so why am I wasting the key strokes when I could be bbq-ing up some road kill.

PETA started out with good intentions now they are stupid as it gets.
All the insecure music/TV/movie celebrities jumped on the bandwagon only to make PETA a mockery. PETA is Scientology of the animal kingdom.

I'm also offended that Sonic has to run around so fast. Hedgehogs aren't supposed to run that fast and will imply that people everywhere will exhaust their pet hedgehogs to the brink of death due to the brand of Sonic video games. </sarcasm>

Funny how easy it is to mix up PETA and PITA...

BTW, nobody tell PETA about the turtles that Mario stomps. They'd go nuclear if they ever found out about that.

Especially the flying ones! (They're endangered!)

So when Mario is kicking Bowser's ass is PETA gonna say that is is promoting abuse on turtles and what about goomba's?
I used to actually respect PETA until the naked dumb asses laying on the street while my kids are around and now this so sad the seem to be coming into the animal kingdom version of the RIAA and MPAA.

What poor dumb animal had to die so you could wear that pelt? ..

My Aunt Trudy I replied :)

Peta and similar should learn to stop ridiculising themselves with these statements. Have you ever heard of faux fur, does not have to be real.

Eleven coins in seven seconds!!! lol link

1415.11.2011 20:42

They fail at making games too...

1515.11.2011 20:56

Wow talk about stupid people, it's not like when the suit is put on we see Mario go skin a raccoon and put its hide on. It's a costume and these people are down right nuts.

1615.11.2011 20:59

crazy how they will jump on anything.

1715.11.2011 21:37

So where was PETA when Super Mario 3 came out?

1815.11.2011 22:39

Holy crap, I can get Tanooki fur irl?! Awesome!
Thank you PETA for letting me know of this market!
Now I'm off to go make a REAL Tanooki suit!!!

Sending the wrong message? If Mario was sending the wrong message. Kids would have been eating green mushrooms for extra lives, booting turtles, and hatching strange eggs in hopes of riding a dinosaur years ago.

No one tell them about Fallout New Vegas and the challenge for killing animals with Nukes!

Quote:

You must kill any animal with either a Fat Man or a Fat mine to complete this challenge.

Mutated animals do not count, so only regular animals such as coyotes and all types of dog including NCR and Legion dogs count.

Personally I did it killing birds!

BTW...People are mammals, mammals are animals. What about the cruelty that PETA is imposing on all of the people who have to listen to their crap???

My sister says Mario's a plumber so it's probably faux fur. lol

PETA is also against faux fur because they claim in makes fur trendy. Heck they are even against using the fur and skin from animals killed for other reasons...have a cow that died of old age? PETA thinks you shouldn't use the hide. Heck, PETA is even against keeping animals as pets. Crazy bastards...I can guarantee that my cat is happier living her pampered life than struggling for life in the streets.

I got 4 howling fat bastards that WON'T go outside for the mere fact they know where the food bin is & feed them every morning. Darn right They would have something to say to PETA about pets being kept.

My cat is afraid of the outside too...she won't even go in the garage!

I always enjoyed a good mario game, Still occasionally play SMB3 on my original NES (on it's last legs) but always thought that what they needed was ...

...MORE BLOOD!

2816.11.2011 17:48

Took this long to sue they will loss.

2916.11.2011 23:32

I just tried the game...it is terrible. You can't move any slower or faster and there don't seem to be any enemies (although I kept falling in holes because I couldn't run). PETA can't even make an 8-bit video game!

3017.11.2011 05:59

PETA now says that they were just joking; they just wanted to draw everyone's attention to the fact that Tanooki suits really do exist.

Why do I get the feeling that mario fans are going to drive up the price on these as they buy all the Tanooki furs they can find?

Maybe PETA is having financial problems like the rest of us & they have a skeleton in the closet... like stock in Tanooki furs...

I am just waiting for Tanooki Burger to open up a franchise in my area. We have a Panda Express but they look at you funny when you order Panda. :)

OK we all know PETA is good for one thing , a big LOL ,, they have good intentions and over the years they have done some good , but has anyone ever seen the episode that SOUTH PARK did about PETA ??? They did a great job making a fool of them !!! LOL --- We are at the top of the food chain and animals are a part of that chain , unless you choose not to eat them , and that is your right to do so !!! Misstreating animals is not just a F#$%^& up thing to do and good for PETA for going after these types of sick people ,,, But to bash a company for making a game with a animal in it that is hunted for it`s pelts ,,, grow up and get a life ,, over the course of the past what , 50 or so years every cartoon on tv has had a animal that has been hunted for it`s pelt !!!!! This is just stupid and I hope that it never even makes it`s way into the courtroom doors ,, thrown out before it makes it in there ,, call it sencorship all over again --------- PEACE

PETA is not about protecting animals; that is what the ASPCA is for. What little good PETA sometimes does is done using donations that would have done far more good if given to the ASPCA.
