R.I.P Demonoid as domain names go up for sale

It is now light's out for Demonoid.
After being taken down last week in the Ukraine, all of the major Demonoid domains are now up for sale, effectively killing any return chances for the popular tracker.

The IFPI has taken credit for the raid and takedown of the site, following a crippling, sanctioned DDoS attack.

In taking credit, the anti-piracy group said (via Freak): "The operation to close Demonoid was a great example of international cooperation to tackle a service that was facilitating the illegal distribution of music on a vast scale. I would like to thank all those officers involved in this operation to close a business that was built on the abuse of other people's rights."

A couple of arrests have been made in Mexico in relation to ownership of the site with some assets seized, as well.

Demonoid.me, Demonoid.com and Demonoid.ph are now up for sale on Sedo, with would-be buyers likely needing to pay a hefty premium for the site's heavy traffic, especially now with headline news.

Demonoid's closed tracking choked old torrents to death anyway.

212.8.2012 22:04

Er, Demonoid was *not* a closed tracker. It was only semi-private (much like BakaBT), and you could d/l torrents with no membership.

312.8.2012 22:57

the domain is bought it will come back the guys will save it

It's funny cuz a DDoS attack is super illegal, but sharing files isn't... Oh wait, I got funny mixed up with f***ed.

So I was downloading from Piratebay the other day, simply cause it was the only place that had what I was looking for, and I noticed that my tracker said the torrent originated from demonoid lol. So now we know their torrents are not completely lost.

RIP Demonoid. Long live file sharing...

@mystic good job on giving out on all that info over the internet. posting info like that is just handing the IFPI all the info they need for their next bust

Er, TPB is no great secret - lol. It's one of (if not THE) most heavily-trafficked sites on Earth.

I think that the loss of Demonoid will make room for newer innovations and Demonoid will return inanother, far more robust form. History has shown that this type of action always creates newer and more innovative ways for Demonoid-like-goals to be fulfilled, and along with IPv6, and ever increasing bandwidth and newer technologies emerging, it's a huge understatement to say soon even the "Demonoid problem" Napster, (remember that?) only not so nearly as easily to get rid of as simply removing a central tracker website or any number of people who might utilize a decentralized system built upon plausible denyability.

what does the selling of the domains have to do with demonoid's return? lol, internet much?

1114.8.2012 09:47

Wow! I was a long time member. I liked the semi-privacy aspect, and they hosted good torrents. I'm gonna miss it. Can someone PM me with good alternatives.

Demonoid tracker is still up serving torrents. We have been through this before. The IFPI just took down Demonoid's web pages and stole their domain names. In a country that apparently are going to allow them to be judge, jury and executioner. So the president of Ukraine can come to America to brag about how he is cooperating with our country (a.k.a the RIAA). He should just stay home we do not want his repressive practices or views rewarded over here. Looks like Obama does not mind them as long as he gets what he wants. I am not going to start worrying about Demonoid till the tracker stop showing seeds and peers. This just looks like another failed attempt by the IFPI to control the masses. The only thing that gives them credibility are articles like this, Remember Seed Demonoid torrent's as long as the tracker is up just like last time. Just my two cents.

You honestly expect the President to start thumbing his nose at other countries' leaders, because YOU are scared of communists/socialists in the woodwork..?! LOL - I agree with you about the IFPI, but don't be a horse's tukhus.

1414.8.2012 15:55

Well, I guessed I stepped in it in one respect with regards to my comments last week about how it might be that Demonoid would be back within/around this week. That doesn't mean I'm about to eat humble pie yet though.

I'll still stand behind the bulk of my original statements & beliefs as most of the folks here & speculate that the resale of these names pretty much just hammers a tangible name & address to someone once the sites come back online.

We are talking about the Ukraine here & we are talking about crazy bullshit amount of money this site probably brought to that area as well too. And as well all know; Money Talks...

I Honestly expect when the President said back in 2009 that he was "a big supporter of non-censorship", that it would still be true around election time.
I honestly expect that Demonoid should get due process, so far this does not look like due process.
I would think at this point this all kinda looks like some diplomatic political election year stunt to gain support from the RIAA without pissing off the people that have made it clear that they do not want internet censorship. That is why I wish the President of Ukraine would not come here so shortly after the repressive actions that has happened in Ukraine against internet freedoms. It my opinion it makes Obama look bad.

Look, I like(d) Demonoid just fine, and have been a member for years, but trying to equate the shutdown of a *known* pirate torrent site (and it damn well is/was) with "censorship" is just silly denial, nothing more. As for "due process", well, the President (and the US court system) has zero control over Romania, a former Soviet Bloc country that is notorious for NOT allowing due process, so *shrug*. Kvetch to them.

Don't. Be. A. Horse's. Tukhus.

Then you better get over to Webster's site and get them to correct there definition of the word "Censorship" they have it all wrong, according to you. Besides Demonoid did not only serve up copy written files so I believe someone got censored. Even by your definition.

And if you remember not long ago this site was considered a pirate site. But I am still sensing your need to be right about this. So I take back everything I said because of your witty remarks. I do believe a few people (why not let's make em politicians) should be able to decide what is piracy without any input from others and steal their domain name and sell them without due process. And Americans should be just fine with our government supporting these actions, because they deserved it they were just pirates. I really appreciate you straightening me out.

Now I am being an asss, see the difference....lol

Sorry, but taking the coward's way out doesn't earn you any points in a debate.

a) You were complaining about Obama's administration somehow censoring Demonoid:

Quote:
I Honestly expect when the President said back in 2009 that he was "a big supporter of non-censorship", that it would still be true around election time. "
Fail #1. Neither Obama or any of his administration cronies did squat; Ukraine's leadership and the IFPI did. While this administration certainly may be happy about it, again, they did not "censor" Demonoid

b) I know the definition of "censor" and "censorship" quite well, thank you. YOU need to learn what the subject of a sentence is. In other words, "Obama" is not equal to "Ukraine's government" or "the IFPI", whether or not Ukraine's action meshes with their desires.

c) Due process in Ukraine..?! You must be joking. Or did you expect Ukraine to use the US court system?

d) The vast majority of content on Demonoid has never been legal, buster. I'm a member there too (or at least, til they come back, "was"), and you're not going to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. Stop making silly excuses, and just admit that you enjoy violating the copyrights of large corporations; I certainly do, why can't you? You need to realize that "illegal" is not necessarily equivalent to "immoral".

Yes, Demonoid (and for that matter, TPB) is/was a pirate torrent site, even though they did have a smattering of legal content. This type of action is the risk you take when you operate a pirate website, exactly the same as it is when operating a "warez" forum, or the like. Whether or not it's immoral for these sites to operate is a whole 'nother ball O' wax, but they are definitely illegal, by the current laws of most of the developed nations. It is what it is.

I reiterate: stop being a horse's tukhus.

I did not know making fun of you was being a coward but if it is guilty as charged.

a) If this was a debate you would have to respond to what I posted and not rewrite what you think I am saying. I believe over the years other forum members have pointed this out to you also.

b) At this point you are pretty much debating with yourself because you have a whole list of things I did not say or suggest. I really do not know what point you are arguing at this point. Your a pirate that hates piracy is about all I have gotten from this.

c) I do not know what I said the upset you so much. To get you undivided attention like this has been a dream come true for me. But even though you think this forum is your personal blog space for years now. Maybe you can get them to rename Afterdawn Forums Bozobub's blog space. That should keep you busy for a while, I cannot tell you how many countless posts on this forum where you have tried to bully people around just like this.

d) And if name calling helps you with obvious lack of self esteem. Feel free to call me some more names, up it to four or five a post. As long as it helps you.

Even though you have been totally rude. I wish you the very best Sir. You taught me a valuable lesson, not to post in these forum, and I do not believe I am the only one you have taught that lesson to over the years.

Fail#1 Your ideas are the only valid ones what ever they may be, Got it you made your point
