Asus says goodnight to Eee PC netbooks

Asus says goodnight to Eee PC netbooks Asus has finally pulled the plug on their netbook pioneer line, the Eee PCs.
Announced in 2007 at the then unheard of price of $199, the Eee PC netbooks started a trend that lasted just three years until the introduction of the Apple iPad in 2010.

As with most netbooks, the Eee line featured a number of underpowered devices that often did not work as expected but were ultraportable and sufficed for secondary devices mainly used for web browsing.

Asus will now direct customers to their new Transformer tablets, which come with an optional dock that make them as productive as netbooks except with touch screens and more powerful internals.

Allegedly, Acer and MSI will also be discontinuing their netbook offerings this year.

Shame. They made an awesome product, but... I don't blame them.

Now someone is going to have to make a tablet with a keyboard, setup like an old blackberry. I know a lot of people who use netbooks because tablets don't have keyboards, but laptops are too big, fragile, and power hungry. Touchscreens are fine for some things, but not for these people...not for people who need to type a lot, and certainly not for people with dirty hands. No, netbooks are not ideal for photoshop...but perfect for doing spreadsheets while going thru a warehouse.

hence the docking keyboard on the transformer line. the transformer prime is everything my netbook was, but on every performance enhancing drug you can dream of. ;)
