Official iPhone 4 jailbreak released

Official iPhone 4 jailbreak released The iPhone Dev Team has released the first official iPhone 4 jailbreak this week, using a browser-based exploit.
However, some of the users that have jailbroken their device has reported broken MMS and broken FaceTime.

Hacker "comex" released the option via jailbreakme.com, and visitors to the site on their iPhone 4 devices can start the jailbreaking process right from their phone browser.

The iPhone Dev Team's hack is the first for the device, despite hacker Geohot's claims to an iPhone 4 jailbreak last month.

As a note, iPads running iOS 3.2.1 will not be able to jailbreak their devices.

Making this jailbreak different than pretty much every other one before it, is the fact that it is completely browser-based, using the Apple Safari browser.

The hack comes a week after the U.S. Library of Congress officially made jailbreaking legal.

According to Apple, you should not jailbreak your phone because it might compromise security...obviously Apple's idea of "security" is a default web browser that gives websites full control over the system files.

I dont recall them mentioning security. Just something about not getting the full experience or some junk like that. although I could be wrong and if I am correct on this, I am surprised, none the less, they did not mention security.

The Jailbreak is there for the iPhone 4 but many of the the Cydia apps don't seem to work with it yet. I'm afraid to try anything because damm near everything I've tried to install crashes the phone in one way or another. Guess I should wait till they catch up and update the apps. Nice to see it out though.

What makes this "Official". I thought from reading the title that this was from Apple or something.

You're right, jpc... But it just kind of takes the bluster out of his condescending attitude... You can't really start a thread with a flame and not expect to be criticized for such a glaring error.

It's like the opposite of when someone says, "who cares about spelling errors?" - and then misspells "you're" in the next sentence. At least that person isn't trying to be critical or anything...

Just sayin'... :)
