CES: Samsung to show off 85-inch Ultra HD TV Samsung has announced today that it will unveil the world's largest Ultra HD television set at the upcoming CES event in January.
Ultra HD, the recently coined term for 4K resolution, offers 3840 x 2160 pixels, four times that of current "Full HD" 1080p sets.

The company says the LED TV will be "the world's largest commercialized UHD LED TV" and offer "lifelike" picture to viewers.

Samsung will be amongst a growing number of manufacturers including Sony, LG and Toshiba who are vying for very early status as a leader in the 4K market. In fact, LG launched an 84-inch 4K-supported TV released just two months ago.

That TV cost $19,000 with Samsung's expected to be in the same ballpark.

it'll be great in 10+ years when we'll finally see commercially viable consumer 4k materials. streaming won't cut it, although blu-ray isn't quite that entenched yet. who knows..

We do not enjoy much the BD content 'cos we only have been watching HD TV's. (1080i, 1080p & 720p)
-First public HDTV broadcast in U.S. July 23, 1996.
-First regular HDTV broadcasts in Belgica: January 1, 2004.

Capabilities: Blu-ray Disc could be used to store 7 hours of 32 Mbit/s video (HDTV) or 3 hours and 30 minutes of 64 Mbit/s video (Cinema 4K).
So the BD & UHD-TV finally are about to match.
