Framerate

(synonyms: fps,frames per second)

Defines how many pictures eg. frames one second of video or audio contains, normally used acronym for framerate is fps - frames per second. Human eye can't see picture changes after the framerate is more than ~24fps.

In American TV system NTSC the framerate is appx. 29.97fps and in European PAL system the framerate is 25fps.

Considering pictures that are recorded on camera are naturally blurred, it gives the effect of a smooth image, thus the statement that the human eye can't tell the difference over ~24 FPS.

With the image on a computer screen or a console, unless blur is enabled, the framerate would have to be ~35/40 or above for a totally smooth image.
