An nfo file, is a file packed with a release by a piracy group when they release things on the Internet. The files are designed by ASCII artists and can be read with notepad. They contain release information. For example, the runtime or a movie or how to install if it's software. It's like an identification file, there is always an nfo file packed with a release.

Mono, if your having some trouble opening it, right click>open with>notepad if it wont open with notepad try going to download.com and getting a program specifically for reading .nfo files, if you still get the error, the .nfo file was corrupted during download or didn't completely download.
